“Oh don’t mind me, please, I’m merely admiring.” Alexei grinned. “You’ve either had a very bad or a very good day.”
“look all i’m saying is the next person that complains about how their life sucks or some shit i’m going scream.” she shrugged. it had been a couple days since the ball and she really got a look at how happy some kids were even though they had no one but each other, “i mean i get it we all have bad days but there’s just so much more out there we could do to make them better, you know?” she questioned before pushing her hair back shaking her head, “sorry moral lesson of the day is over now, we can now talk about anything else.”
“No, no, please do keep the wisdom coming.” Alexei said with a half-smile. “I fully agree with you. Whining idiots that don’t believe are in control of their life shouldn’t waste precious oxygen or this earth’s resources.” he shrugged. “And I get the impression you are the exact opposite of those kinds of people.”
“Does literally no one under the age of, like, 20, remember what skee ball is? I mentioned today in class and–I shit you not–at least 10 of them stared at me like i spoke in tongues. The rest of them were probably just nodding along to earn some brownie points. And then–when some high schoolers came in to talk about their experience and give my students some advice–they also looked at me like I was crazy for talking about the game. I mean, it’s not that uncommon of an arcade game right? Wait–arcades still exist don’t they?” Lena asked, running her hand through her hair. “Please make it so I don’t feel so old–because right now I feel ancient.”
“Darling, if you feel ancient what’s left to say about me? Unless you are forty-something and have had some really great experiences with your plastic surgeon. In which case, I’d love to have his or her number for future reference.” Alexei said, eyeing the young woman carefully. He wouldn’t say she was older than twenty-five. “Does this game you talk about originate from the US? I’m afraid I’m not familiar with it.”
“Look, I know I’m a picky guy, but you think it’d be easier to find one girl in London that wants to go on an all-expense paid trip with me to the Hamptons,” Nick said, not looking up from his phone as he closely scrutinized each photo on the tinder app, swiping left and right at an intense speed.
“And you are expecting to find her on that app? That’s a little naive. All Tinder girls are good for is one night stands, not luxurious trips to the Hamptons. I’d gladly take your offer, though, perhaps I could teach you a thing or two about women along the way.”
