SELENE.
No matter how much she tried, Selene always found herself repeating her mistakes and succumbing to temptation. Perhaps she was weak, in that sense, or utterly determined to satisfy herself in the present, but.. it was a pattern. A habit, if you must. She very well knew she should stay away from her ex, at least in this way where both were toying with one another, tempting fate. She could feel every tingle upon her skin each time his eyes took her in, every trail of his gaze, every spark it lit up beneath her skin. And the guilt remained at bay, but still present, as she took him in also, daring and confident beneath the facades of a mask. The brunette was okay with him believing she didn’t know it was him; in fact, she preferred it. Him knowing brought about a lot of complications, when all she wanted to do right now was dip her toes without falling in completely. She’d been burned before, she wasn’t about to tempt fate that much again.
There were several people about, but none she felt she should worry over. Nobody knew her identity. At least, she figured as much. “If it weren’t for you I might’ve.. considering I left my coat inside.” As she finds herself in his arms, can feel something like adrenaline coursing through her veins, seeing him this up close not so foreign now. The way he used his coat to pull her close. The way he looked at her. Did he know? “Has anyone ever told you you’re quite the gentleman?” Selene dared not ask for his name, the air of anonymity all too important. And he didn’t seem to ask for hers, either. Perhaps they could get through this without a hitch. “I’d rather keep our affairs a little less political, if you ask me.” She scoffs, amusement lighting up the entirety of her features, her tone of voice tainted with sarcasm. “Me? Wicked? Please, how could you ever assume that of me. —But, pray tell, what did you have in mind?” Still, there was hesitation she felt, knowing she needed to keep some length between them, leaning back some as she toyed, instead, from a slight distance.
Now that they were alone the weight of the moment grew heavy on his shoulders and Alex felt his heart racing. He had kissed those lips a thousand times and yet here he was, hovering before her like an idiot who didn’t know what to do. It was like the excitement that shone from her had him overthinking every second of this and the pressure was beginning to get to him. A soft laugh escaped him and broke the tension for a moment, turning to her with genuine affection in his hues. “Sometimes but for some reason,” he paused with a knowing grin. “It means a lot more coming from you -- a perfect stranger,” he chuckled.
Alex shifted a little so that he was facing her more and his hand fell to her hip where he bided his time by nervously drawing circles over the fabric of her dress. “I can see in those big eyes, beautiful. You’re a woman that a man can never shake and that’s a risk for me,” he joked once more unable to help the lingering look in her eyes as if searching for something – reassurance that whatever happened tonight wouldn’t ruin everything they had worked to fix between them. The older male sucked in a deep breath and then laughed some more with his nerves. “I have a lot of things on my mind right now...namely how I supposedly have a half-sister I didn’t know about making my Dad a big fat liar but if I’m being honest,” his eyes moved from her lap back to her eyes, then fell to her lips. “All I can really think about right now is how bad I want to kiss you but being a gentleman and all,” he laughed. “I guess I just need you to give me that push.”
