WWE !

So when I was in middle school I was a pretty big wrestling fan. Specifically the now renamed WWF. Guys like Stone Cold, The Rock, The Hardy Boyz, Chris Jericho and many others got me hooked. I grew up a bit and the program changed too which took me out of it. Fast forward 15 years and I’m a bigger fan now than I ever was. A buddy of mine got us tickets to Monday Night Raw and it wasn’t long before I entrenched myself into the story lines once again. 

In the age of social media, its so easy to connect and get great content. I highly recommend checking out WWE’s social media. They do a better job engaging viewers than any pro sports or tv programming. The WWE network has also been a success as well.

Anyways, I’m back on Tumblr because I want to start a wrestling podcast and do a weekly round up of what happened in WWE. There is a ton of wrestling podcasts and news outlets out there. I want to make it my own and add in something fun, new, and fresh. I’m not quite sure what that is yet, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.

Thoughts on the JFK Assassination

Being born in 1988 i was obviously unable to be there when JFK was assassinated in 1963. This doesn't mean that I do not have any interest in the matter. I have often asked those who were alive at the time what their respective thoughts and feelings were. What I have found is that everyone was truly devastated and shocked. I have heard it compared to 9/11 in that people felt unsafe and were in utter disbelief. I have heard of JFK being a great symbolic leader of the country whether the person i asked was a Kennedy supporter or not. I was very curious about this to a point where I started doing some research on the death of JFK.

My curiosity started when i saw a preview of a film being made about the hospital where Kennedy was brought to following him being shot.

Once I saw this preview I was hooked. I started looking up the Warren commission and Lee Harvey Oswald. Its still interesting to see all of the conspiracy theories surrounding this event. In the end, I was unable to formulate my own opinion because there are so many arguments for each scenario to have happened.

With many tragedies such as this, conspiracy theories tend to come out of nowhere so its difficult to really choose what you thought happened, especially when not being alive at the time of the incident. I find this event in history to be so significant, and it shows because of people still talking about it today. I read that more documents regarding this event will be unsealed in 2017. This may shed some light on one of the most unbelievable events in the history of the US.

I hate the Gold Glove. Its become a popularity contest. A lot of deserving players are getting screwed. How is Juan Lagares not a gold glove winner!!!

J-ville

For the first time in my adult life, I took the 2 hour trip north to Jacksonville. Me and my buddy wanted to get away so we decided to book a hotel and discover what Jacksonville has to offer. After doing some research and asking some friends from the area, I found several activities to try out. Jacksonville landing was our first destination and was surprised at what I saw. Everything was dead on a Friday night and there were very few people our age. We ended up settling on a Hooters and, while Hooters is always solid, we still felt that we were in the twilight zone. We had a few drinks and talked to a few locals for a bit. Then it was time to rest up for the next day.

We headed to breakfast at Maple Street Biscuit Co. And oh my goodness it was an outstanding breakfast. We had chicken, biscuits, and cheese all with sausage gravy. The crowd was more family oriented and it started to seem that Jacksonville had the same vibe as a typical coastal town in Florida. Not much night life and many old people.

From there we went to the Jacksonville Zoo. This was a lot of fun. It was huge and there were several large exhibit to check out. We were also able to walk off our large breakfast. After checking out rhinos and elephants, it was time to head back and grab some lunch. We tried River City Brew which was so-so. Again very slow and a lot of old people. Keep in mind this is right in the middle of downtown Jacksonville. I had a shrimp pasta that was good, but I’ve had better. After trying their local brew we headed out and took a nap. We were exhausted.

We headed to the Burrito Gallery for dinner. We finally saw some younger people and felt like we had discovered Atlantis. The burritos were great and I moved to the bar in the back and tried a delicious Bulletpoint Whiskey. We moved on to El Burro which was a very hip crowd. After one drink we left. It was too weird for us. We finished up at Dos Gatos which was pretty fun. The bartenders were all dressed up as Rocky Horror Picture Show characters. I tried the Basil Hayden Whiskey, a personal favorite. We made conversation and closed our tabs after a few hours and it was time to go.

All in all, Jacksonville is pretty neat. Everything is spread out and it’s hard to find a younger crowd. The nightlife is relatively good. I would still prefer Orlando. I definitely would try it agains knowing what I do now. I think with a larger group it would be even more fun.

Wine, Dine, Your Money is Mine

This weekend I attended Epcot’s international Food and Wine Festival. I have been going the last three years and enjoy it so much that I got year passes. Any time after 4 pm am I am able to enter the park with my pass and indulge in diverse food and drink.

Epcot is known for its world showcase, which displays certain countries. Each has something to offer that is a very unique and special experience. With the festival,which lasts from late September to mid November, even more countries are highlighted and sell food, wine, beer, and, mixed drinks at their stations. Taking the time to sample everything is an awesome experience, especially when you get to go on rides and experience everything else a Disney theme park has to offer (I.e. people watching). The festival also has an Eat to the Beat concert series which is a great opportunity to see bands like Hanson, Sister Hazel, Sugar Ray, and Smash Mouth (is it 1998?). I have seen these shows and it’s actually very good!

The gripe I have with this every time i go, however, is how expensive everything can be. The portions aren’t bad and the drinks are strong enough, but most people are paying $90 just to get into the park. Each food or drink item is right around $6 depending on what you get. Then there’s parking which was $14 when I parked last. (I don’t choose to park, I suggest parking at a nearby hotel and take a shuttle over). By the end of the night I’m checking my bank account to see how many charges I have from Disney.

I have nothing against them and I believe they very wise with their prices. They know what people will pay for a good time. The festival always seems like a huge success and I will continue to go for years to come. I just wish it was a little easier on the wallet.

NCAA

I have been hearing a lot about the issues with the #NCAA and players and colleges being penalized for players receiving benefits. At first I thought they should not receive benefits, but then I did a little research. One story in particular was Arian Foster, an NFL running back who admitted to receiving benefits at University of Tennessee. He claimed that he could barely pay for rent and food. He admitted asking his coach for either food or rent money, otherwise he would do something he would regret. I would not want to speculate what that was, but I imagine it has a potential to be worse than an NCAA penalty. This could obviously interfere with their training and their studies, but what other choice do these young men and women have? Perhaps they could receive a higher stipend for meals. From what I have seen, there is a huge disconnect between the NCAA and it's athletes. It's getting to a point where schools are being put on probation and NCAA employees are being fired or resigning. I expect this issue only to grow in the next few years. It could get ugly, however a resolution will come at some point. It's an interesting story worth keeping an eye on.
