Passing through the pungent stench of mediocrity
A lack of ambition and drive is all I see
This environment isn't where I am meant to be
Greatness has been prescribed for me
I aspire to be in a state of complete harmony
Talent, hard-work and favour aligned perfectly
Who will I bless with this composition
I need to be assigned a near impossible mission
Success and wealth is part of family tradition
We strive and excel with strict repetition
No time to waste, I must pay for this tuition
I will relentlessly achieve, not looking for permission
My dedication is to becoming the best
In my pursuit there is no time for rest
But the walls are caving in and I feel stressed
I understand the hardship is only a test
A taboo, black males should never be depressed
Hows that possible, when my race is oppressed?
I have started a race where I am already behind
To catch up with whites I need a focused state of mind
As for us blacks the world is not so kind
So I follow the blueprint my parents have designed
Work harder than them, elevate your grind
And eventually, I'll have my chance to shine
Who will I be when its all said and done?
Will I feel empty even when told I’ve won
I know the value of happiness is next to none
I just want my parents to be proud to say “thats my son”
How do I choose between hustling and fun?
When I cant talk about this with anyone
