From today onward, this blog is canon divergent. I feel like there are a lot of things the show is currently throwing in the trash in terms of character development and being that the book is told through three different words of mouth; I struggle to accept the current events.

We also will not be writing anything pertaining to the relationship with crispy.

Angry ranting below over this season

Yall. I don’t know if its just me but the whole they’re sleeping together is a ruin on the characters. Pretty sure that was creative freedom with the Dance of Dragons being told second hand from 3 different people. A whole OH YOU KNOW THEY PROBABLY FUCKED! This whole time my brains been like oh once we get more you’ll write again. Not like this, this makes me want to not write because at this point my characterization would not be considered canon.

I cannot get over Alicent not doing anything for her daughter or even Aegon when hes sobbing. Shes literally talking that hes mailable to her. There’s your moment bitch. Like, shes not that cold nor stupid to not be there???? Her last talks in the books are her WISHING FOR HER KIDS. Yall, this is giving me flashbacks to the muddied characters of the last season of GoT.

This feels off compared to what they gave us in season 1.

To this day I still can't get over Al.icent looking to Rhae for her reaction to Vis.erys announcing their marriage.

Not to combine or compare wildly different shows but Alicent should have gotten with Viserys what Simon from Bridgerton got with his dad.

A scene with the patriarch on his death bed, asking for his final wish to be recognized (Rhaenyra on the throne/Simon's dad's bloodline to continue).

Only for the victims of their abuse to tell them in their final moments that their wishes will Not come true. That they will be enacting their own desires and spitting in the face of everything their abusers have ever wanted. And the final words they ever say to their abusers being something that their abuser told them, twisting their words and spitting it back in their face.

But that is what Alicent basically did in "Fire & Blood"!

She and Criston locked Viserys in his chambers and left him there to die and they plotted their next move together.

There's even art of it in "Rise of the Dragon"

In "Fire & Blood" VIserys was dead to Alicent the moment that Aemond's eye was slashed out and Viserys didn't do anything about it. And when he was dying, Alicent made sure he was neglected and not given treatment.

I know they were trying to make Alicent more sympathetic, but I think that they robbed her of her defining trait, which was that she cared deeply for her children. And that Aemond losing his eye and Viserys not doing shit about it, was the point of no return. That Alicent would never forgive Viserys nor Rhaenyra for what was done to her son.

1x08 shanked one of the biggest and most important moments in "The Dance".

While I know theres vast differences between canon book things and show things, the books also didn’t play on Alicents main abuser. Her own father. All things culminate to abuse from Otto. Alicents marriage. Alicents children being maimed.

Lets go back to the fact too that Alicent was 16 when she married Viserys. A child. Historically accurate sadly based on English and European laws. Which if we look at the marriage act 1753, a license was required for those under 21 to be married with the parental consent where parents could agree to it or say no. I point this back to Otto once more.

The main enemy within the books and the show will always be the misogyny.

Considering that GRRM is an executive producer of the show and the show got to show a decent bit more than the books could, I will consider the show an updated canon to the book. Also add in that GRRM was okay with the adaptions and would provide feedback in the writing processes.
