On a very extremely triangular, island like plot in Durlach, Karlsruhe, a new movie theatre emerges as a new centre of the quarter. Designed from the inside to the outside the main concept of the building is creating an intriguing triad of public spaces with very different characteristics formed by the three dark, from the outside world detached cinema auditoriums. By playing with different heights, with the gradation of the cinemas itself and the solidity of the construction material brick itself, the three parts of meeting complement the building to a special sequence of dark and bright room sections with constant new impressions of the space. To maintain the element of surprise the openings of the façade are showing as little of the inside as possible and light only if really necessary.
To maintain the clean structure of spaces the interior shows an absolute honesty concerning materiality. The different colour scheme, the type of furniture and lighting used in the bar, the cafe and the salon in the back of the building emphasize their very different characteristics and offer different environments for the visitor to adapt to.

Rural communities in Germany face a similar problem: their small towns are growing irregularly and fear a loss of character by those changes. This project focuses on the densification of Schliersee in Bavaria and the problems coming with it.
By developing three different low-rise typologies for all different types of family constellations this project proposes an alternative for the classical single-family house typically built in these areas.
Four long three-story-structures arranged almost parallel to each another, while slightly opening towards the lake front organize the urban development of the concept. The street level façade of the wooden structure allows for both the pedestrians as well as the vehicles to enter. Surface parking is provided on the ground floor under the 3 meter high wooden pillar structure of the building which is sometimes even complemented by small commercial units. The upper levels contain maisonettes for weekend travellers and offer with its high structure a great view over the lake while leaving a relatively small footprint. By adding two more typologies all appartments for different family constellations are covered. Their arrangment takes reference from the historical three-sided courtyard, often appearing in this rural area. Furthermore the materials of plaster and wood are sustainable and adapt quite harmonically into the surrounding. Instead of dividing the properties into private gardens by fences, the landscaped vegetation takes over as a rough segmentation.
With its zoning and offer of green, commercial and private areas the plot arrives to be a new centre for the town as well as a pleasant new connection to the lake front.
In February 2018 the project was presented in the exhibition ‘densification in rural areas’ at Schliersee.

The concept of this residential building in the Viehhof district in Munich is based on the ideas of the basic elements of Sir Jon Soans Lincoln‘s Inn Fields in London, in detail the breakfast parlor. Next to the obvious geometrical ways of the pillars and the canopy with its skylight above it, another main theme of the concept is the strong link between in interior and the exterior. Also the particular focus on colors and the entanglement of the apartments interpret the original character of the reference.

“(...) das Lichtrequisit könnte zu zahlreichen optischen Feststellungen ausgewertet werden, und es scheint mir richtig, diese Versuche planmäßig weiterzuführen als Weg zur Licht- und Bewegungsgestaltung.”
László Moholy-Nagy
Inspired by Moholy Nagy's light-space modulator, the installation consists of a base and various modular structures. Both the objects and the light source can be arbitrarily changed and moved by means of different rotation mechanisms and therefore interact differently with the light source. The aim of this project is to study the effects and relationships of light, material, and motion, as well as to unify its natural properties, such as reflection, shadow, refraction, and color within one single object.
