Bittersweet Symphony | Mary and Remus
Remus smiled at her dismissal of his apology. He had a feeling she would have done so even if he had left her waiting far longer. Mary always was one of the nicest people he knew. Her refusal of his offer only going to prove that to him once more. “Well then, if you are fine here would you mind if I got myself a drink right quick?”
He asked knowing she would like say it was fine but still feeling the need to be as polite as possible. Manners were somewhat important to him. Just because he became a beast due to his furry little secret didn’t mean he had to act like one all the time.
He stood from the table but didn’t head to the bar right away. He smiled at once more. The war was wearing on them all and it was comforting to get a small moment like this. “It’s really good to see you again Mary.” He said softly then turned to get a drink.
He knew the bartender well here and greeted the man with a nod. He placed his drink order, waiting as the man set to work. Remus glanced back at Mary to make sure she was alright. Turning back to the bar tender he pulled out a few notes paying for the drinks as the man set them down. When he returned to the table he held a firewhiskey for himself and two cups of tea. Setting it all down he sat across from Mary once more. “I thought you might like this better. I hope it wasn’t too forward of me.”
“Of course I don’t mind, go, go.” Still holding a soft smile on her lips, Mary playfully shooed Remus away with her hand, ignoring the way her fingers still held the faintest of trembles to them as she did so.
Taking another reluctant swig of her drink, Mary tried her best to remain calm. She really couldn’t afford to mess up something as simple as a casual meeting between two friends; if she did, she doubted she would ever plan to leave her home again. Silently scolding herself, the blonde tried her best to get control over herself, taking a few deep breaths when Remus’ back was turned in an attempt to better get a control over her emotions.
“It’s good to see you too, Remus.” Smiling much more warmly at her old friend, Mary felt herself slowly begin to unravel at those words alone. Simply knowing that Remus wanted her there was enough to make the blonde feel ever so slightly calmer; suddenly she felt less like a burden, and more like friend.
When Remus came back with two cups of tea alongside his own bottle of whiskey, Mary’s grin only grew. Gratefully, she tugged one of the mugs towards, wrapping her hands around the cup, her whiskey already forgotten. “Thank you; it wasn’t too forward at all.” To back up her point, Mary was quick to take a small sip of the tea, her smile now threatening to become a permanent fixture on her face; a rare feat by any means.
“So tell me; how are you doing, Remus?”
