Resurrection.
Cassie remained silent. She was unable to bear the whole situation. It wasn't real to her. It all felt like she was living an alternate life. One that wasn't made for her. Conner, John...they were both family. Individuals whom Cassie was able to look upon on as if they were her very own family, from birth to where she is today. And to be heading to their home, with the burden she was carrying over her shoulders? It didn't take a genius to figure out that Conner didn't necessarily take Bart and Cassie's relationship so lightly. Cassie knew this. She very well knew this. But the question was, why? How did it all happen? It was a super long story. One that Cassie refused to even fathom about, it was all complicated, really. But in despite of the situation, and what had occurred...in the end, Conner was her first love. Her first kiss, her first dance, her first boyfriend, her first... everything. How could she possibly allow all those treasured memories to just dust away, as if nothing happened? And that was the thing: she didn't. Inhaling deeply as her steps creaked the Kent's home porch, Cassie awaited before the door as her hues remained fixated upon the flowers she had carried in her arms. Though these flowers wouldn't care to her wounds, Cassie hoped to be of some sort of comfort for Ma. She was her second mother, after all. Accepted Cassie for who she was, and accepted the love she had carried for Conner. Or rather...love him still to this very day.
"There's no turning back now, Cass. It's alright...alright?" Bart reassured her, not entirely sure himself if his presence was the best thing at this point. And with two minds thinking alike, Cassie's hues shifted towards the speedster, only offering a concerned facial expression that indicated that same thought process...with no spoken words. "Bart... I thin--" "Look, I know. I understand. I'll be around, okay?" "Ma... I just need some words alone with her. I haven't seen her... since..." "Cass," Bart rested his hand upon her shoulder, "believe me, I know. No need to explain." He offered a sincere smile, yet one that shook with concern. He disappeared with the speed abilities he carried. No show or sign of the speedster being present from the start. Just moments passed, only to hear the door before Cassie to rattle at the doorknob. Someone was opening the door, and Cassie was only going to expect one special woman... "... Cassie dear, is... is that you?" Ma. Her words stumbled. It was clear that Martha Kent was startled to see the amazing Wonder Girl's appearance to be anywhere but here. At least, that's how Cassie perceived it. And truthfully, she hated herself for it. For this was her second home, a place she was able to call it her sanctuary way back when Conner was still living amongst the Kent farm.
It was even hard for Cassie. Her hues began to glisten with saddened tears, unable to contain the memories and despair of Conner's loss being real. Trails of tears trickled flawlessly over her cheeks as Cassie with no second thought jumped and embraced Martha Kent whole. To just hear her voice, to smell the sweet scent that the home carried... it was as if nothing had changed. A flush of memories all suddenly began to overlap one another within Cassie's mind, leaving her to have simulations occur within the hallway in which she now stood at of previous events when she practically lived amongst their home. "Ma... I'm-" "Cassie... sweetheart, please... come on in. Please..." The gentle and warm touch of hers was set over Cassie's shoulder, guiding her to the living room where all family photos still appeared to be present and intact over countless counter tops and painted walls. Graduation. Dances. The festival. But one photo out stood them all, one that Cassie was not familiar with. Her hues narrowed, having Martha only trail behind--taking note of her attraction towards one particular photo. Hands cupped over her frail features, aware of Cassie not knowing about what Conner had done for her for prom night. "The night of prom," Martha began to murmur out as her voice continued to break with every spoken word, "--a night in which I'm sure, he was to never forget. He put so much time into this thing... John and I weren't allowed to step foot into that barn. It was... all a surprise, even for us. It wasn't until--" Cassie uplifted the photo frame, soaking in the great arrangements and detail that Conner had put into the barn, "--his passing, John and I went into the barn and well... we saw this."
Cassie's hands shook as the frame remained in her grasp, tears becoming more visible as the seconds ticked on by. Sudden bursts of sobs parted through the girls lips, as her arm uplifted to shadow over her broken features. "Ma... I... I didn't even know... Conner..." Cassie managed to expose her hues to Martha, shifting her head to meet with her gaze. "Is... is the barn...?" "... John and I did not touch a single thing. If you wish..." A key in which Martha had carried since Conner's passing was pulled out from her pocket, and extended out to Cassie, "...you may take a look at that barn yourself... it's still all there was if it were yesterday, hun. I make sure of it everyday." Current time. "Cassie!" Helena gasped as she quickly paced towards her shattered daughter, kneeling adjacent to her. "Cassie, dear..." "Mom, please," Cassie attempted to maintain her posture as she forcibly straightened her voice, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to break this," she stood up, adjusting what was left to set at the table for breakfast. "I don't know what got over me. I just haven't been feeling so great lately. I'm sorry." Her mother didn't buy it. She was her mother after all, but she did as what Cassie insisted--and forcibly allowed the topic to just slide on by. And so, to break the awkward silence, the kitchen television was turned on and set to the default channel: World News. "Can you believe it?" Helena tried to alter the topic quickly by bringing up current events at Metropolis, "Folks are still trying to break into LexCorps, or whatever it is. That whole section of that industry was obliterated. Kids these days, finding ways to put bombs everywhere and anywhere." "Welcome to this world, mom. And it's Lex. He isn't necessarily the most likeable guy." "Perhaps to you, but according to the public--he seems to be quite likeable, even admired by some. But still, for someone to be able to get away with that with no show of evidence? It still hasn't even been revealed what actually happened. For all you know, some crazy experiment of his busted out of his basement, which wouldn't be surprising." Meow, meow, meow. "Experiments, huh." Anything that came into relation to Lex was selectively ignored by Cassie. He was highly disliked by her, and hearing of his name only caused a bitter taste in her mouth every time. All attention was mainly set on her cat in which was acting more-so strange than usual. "I don't mean it like that, I meant--" Meow, meow, meow. "Chi, what's wrong?" Cassie knelt down, petting the cat as it crawled onto her lap meowing non-stop. "Mom, I don't think she's feeling so well. She's acting real... strange. I might just bring her in--"
World News Anchor: BREAKING NEWS.
"Breaking News, Maria Satos, reporting shocking images and videos of current events at LexCorps. As many were left clueless as to what actually happened at LexCorps, what appeared to be 'a breaking' at LexCorps was actually none other than an 'experiment' of Lex Luthor's being 'awakened' by his works."
"What did I tell ya?" Meow, meow, meow. World News Anchor: BREAKING NEWS.
( continued... ) "With supporting evidence of what this special figure may be, here are images and supported videos that are currently taking place at a LexCorp conference."
Cassie uplifted herself as the cat remained in her grasp, hues implanted upon the television while curiously awaiting of what these 'images' and 'videos' may be. "I swear, he has nothing better to do than to lock himself up in that basement of his with his crazy staff." ( Image here of Conner Kent at the conference. ) Cat leaps out of her arms, handbag, everything that Cassie had in her possession--was just...dropped. "Oh my God..." Helena spoke out, hands cupped over her mouth. "C-Conner!?" Meow, meow, meow.
Hues traced towards her cat, and then back to the television--and a cycle of the same actions occurred over a couple times before Cassie smacked the television in anger and frustration--causing the piece of equipment to not properly function anymore. "Cassie, listen to me! Don't do this! I know you! Don't!" "You better believe that I'll be over there! Mom, and don't stop me! Stay out of this, please. I don't want you anywhere near danger if I can't control myself at this conference." Her fists clenched ever so tightly, having angered tears appear over her shut eyes. "Lex has no way or form of respect when it comes to the dead. Lex will NOT get away with this! He won't! He fucking won't!" Her speed now almost comparable to that of a speedster, she sped through the skies in approach to Metropolis.... LexCorps, to be exact. Cassie was unable to properly think, and was struggling to think of ways to approach Lex Luthor, or better yet... the now living Conner Kent... in front of a crowded area of innocent civilians without causing a scene. "You're one helluva serpent, Lex. You couldn't have picked a better setting."
Descending now to a location close to that of the public conference, Cassie uplifted her red hoodie and some sunshades that she had hidden away in her sweater pocket. Disguising herself through the crowd, she knew it'd be a piece of cake. But to be situated a nearby distance to that of Conner's? He was sure to not miss her presence, that is... if he still remembered who she was.
