We're happy to finally be able to share our piece for the @a-clone-of-myself zine, featuring Consequence, of course.

This was a fairly ambitious project for us, especially considering when we did it, and I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

The text was originally inspired by this post but has obviously been edited pretty significantly.

i finished checking if we were friends in every world. it turns out we're only friends in 6 of them.

but look. i need you to understand these worlds vary like crazy, okay?

6 is actually insanely high, way higher than most.

One of those worlds is an endless maze you've been navigating since birth

and I have been a living, breathing, rarely accurate atlas you've had as long as you can remember

Eventually, I grow frustrated with it all,

and I start penning malicious warnings within my maps. My guidance is strange and pointed, dangerous in a way it's never been before.

The shift is enough to land you half-dead in a ditch, nothing but myself in your arms.

and yet

We were still friends.

drew this after me (has played the game but hasn't gotten Everything) and a friend (playing her first playthrough) watched the bad touch event for the first time. i was expecting the kiss part of it to be a lot more obvious from the illustrations, and my friend did not at first understand what happened outside of Siffrin Gripping Isabeau. so i draw siffin gripping isabeau, menacingly

this would be in some sort of reverse isekai situation. i think she is for real colorblind and doesnt know it because of whatever ancient wish prevents humans from processing color except when things get scary

ok now that chapter 2 of my fic is out I can finally share nearly everything consequence related I've been drawing over the last two months. so let's start with my design process!

it's probably pretty obvious, but I wanted consequence's design to pretty closely mirror loop's. I don't want to go into all of the reasoning behind what I decided to keep similar and what I decided should be distinct (some of it is spoilers for my fic), but generally I kept a lot of the more general design elements that seem to be a result of whatever the fuck wish craft did to make loop Like That. loop is naked? consequence is naked. loop has an objecthead? consequence has an objecthead. loop has a shape on their chest? consequence has a shape on its chest.

this all being said, I did also want to make sure that consequence was distinct. of course. my initial focus was pretty resolutely on the objecthead, as you can see in my first page of concept sketches, but I did explore some other elements early on as well!

you can also see my first concept sketch for odile's death screen, and just a smidge for the looping animation that is something i might also animate for a chapter, who knows.

more drawings and discussion under the cut, i'm realizing this is getting a bit long.

i had the node object head concept on that first page, but it was definitely something that needed iteration. which is where this page came in. i settled on the diamond shaped geode at around this point too, but was still struggling a tad on what to do with the general body texture. this was also, clearly, WAY too many squares. my beta kris told me as much.

i may be an animator but by god i love making my designs as animation unfriendly as possible sometimes. still wouldn't call consequence animation friendly at all, but i've done a lot since to cut back on the sheer volume of squares.

this was my second pass in an attempt to cut down on the complexity, still way too many squares, but this is when i started drawing the head as a foreground later of nodes with a more abstract cloud of squares behind. for the most part, just shading behind the foreground layer is still how i draw the head traditionally.

aaand then i started playing around digitally and i realized i did not like how that looked digitally. these are both doodles i did via mouse (for the second one i traced an odile sprite to help with proportions), so they're a bit looser in general, but this exercise generally let me know that i needed to slightly rethink how i was going to express the idea digitally.

because this, the final talksprite design i landed on, looks more complicated, but between the smaller amount of foreground squares and the fact that the ones in the background were just made with the rectangle tool, it's honestly not that bad. a pain to replicate? sure! but id5 reused loop's head shape for all of their art in the game, so i can do that too.

i think i solidified the idea of its body having strata before the talksprite (not sure which doodles that would be), but doing the talksprite really helped solidify the idea of a gradient in my mind, and also is where i decided on the textural element. i also decided to look at a reference image for the geode. that helped a Lot.

...i still do like drawing a more simplified consequence though. the key in my eyes is to just get the general shape of the head down, make sure you get a few of the squares floating in the air, and emphasize the nodes around its eyes. also make sure the eyes are offset vertically, it REALLY helps with the character of the design, sometimes i'll doodle a connie quence and think it looks a bit mid, move the eye on its left up, and then boom it's fine.

or you can just not do that because you drew it 2 crumbs big lol

OKOKOK FOR THE SPRITE REQUEST THING. you can do as little or as many of these as you want but the king candy design ones are FUCKING ADORBS like they’re all so precious but you did do well at translating him into pixel details???

first two screenshots!! didn't do the last one because rotating the face is by far The hardest thing to do with these and there's a fair bit of foreshortening so honestly... unfortunately, may not be worth it.

here are some turbo-tastic poses though! there are three in the little cutscene we get so i did all of them, ended up being easy enough to edit. they're a fair bit different from the have some candy pose i did earlier, as i figured that for this request i might as well try to get it as classic as possible

cy-bug form is a challenge i might undertake on my own time ;) but definitely not something that falls under the scope of what i've been doing with these requests.

when it comes to sprites i've done so far, i can compile all the posts here:

and while in general my blog is pretty unorganized, i want to keep my wreck it ralph stuff on my main, and since it's my current hyperfix, my #lucky doodles tag is pretty reliable for finding sprites i've done before!

hay i saw u were accepting suggestions for king candy/turbo sprites? heres some poses (low quality sry 💔) and other ideas (u don't gotta take all or any these ideas if u don't want to):

any of the poses in these scenes would be great tbh

i also saw this (ref above) and thought it was very turbo/kc, to have a comically large lollipop and a propeller hat. quite whimsical. i understand this would be more challenging than doing normal screenshots from the movie, though.

or perhaps you could make a sprite of him sleeping in an obnoxiously big trophy or smth (like a cat sleeping in a bowl)

again, no pressure if they're not doable. i love the sprites you've done so far :D they've got energy and movement!! big fan of them

hoo boy! here he is :) as an animator, there's a bit of nuance to the pose i'm annoyed i can't get (line of action is a fair bit weaker) but as a pixel artist? pretty proud of it!

for the king candy sprites i'm probably just gonna keep the helmet on, mostly because i feel like that's one of the things that grounds it in the turbotime style. that and the fact that i don't want to pick colors for his hair lol.

alll of my original sprites so far, figured i'd post them now because i know i will just make ten million of them and forever put off posting because oh what if i make more?!? there will always be more. until i stop i guess.

king candy sprites are mostly just to test to see if i could pull off the design in the style, I think I did pretty well :)

you can absolutely send me requests for other king candy/3d turbo poses (and like idk others you think might fit? if you have a reference image?), i'm kinda just scrollin around picking random(ish) ones. just keep in mind that subtlety is kind of hard to convey with such a small amount of pixels and that angles can kind of suck lol.
