Title: Never Let You Go
fandom: Fairy Tail
Pairing: Gajevy
Notes: Listened to Florence and the Machine’s album Ceremonials while writing this. It’s based off a fun theory about the White Witch and Touka and the White Witch switching and possessing Levy bc ANGST and bc I can.
Fear was never something Gajeel felt lightly there were only a handful of times he could say he was truly scared, when Metalicana “abandoned” him and when he “died” leaving his future with Levy behind. In truth the second one he would still feel pains of that fear, dreams waking him up in the night checking if she was still there, that he was still alive and breathing only scars on his body (and hers) left to show that fight actually happened.
All of that though never compared or could compare to the fear bubbling under his skin, the sickening feeling in his stomach his eyes going dry because he thought if he blinked, she would be gone. Time felt like it was going still as Touka hovered above them all and holding Levy against her body a sick smile spread on her face as she looked at him, like she was making some kind of twisted point in that moment.
Everything up to the point the moment he noticed that Touka was strange, the fight with Levy all of that had been for the sole fact to protect her and in seconds all of that just proved to be pointless. Gajeel swallowed dryly his throat thickening and hurting as he attempted to yell out like he would usually but something stopped him, and the dragon slayer wondered for a moment if it was her magic making sure he could not call out to Levy who at that moment looked passed out.
“You know,” the witches voice was closer as they both came closer to the ground her overwhelming presence making sure no one could move, he could hear their friends yells and grunts they also being silenced like he was, something of a relief. “It’s so sad.” she said as her hand caressed Levy’s cheek in a gentle mimicking manner (since no witch could ever be gentle) as her eyes locked onto Gajeel. “That she never got to tell you herself.“
"What.” he sound through gritted teeth trying to fight past the magic that held him back his red eyes glaring at her as his jaw clenched. As Levy would tell him he had to ignore anything she said to provoke him (since that was so easy to do) but God he knew if he wasn’t being held back he would punch the bitch in the face, and as this thought crossed his mind his fists clenched more as he tried to hold himself up from the ground. The witch just smiled as she pressed her check against Levy’s.
“You really don’t know, though after seeing your silly fight and the way you acted following this body around.” she laughed and Gajeel looked away best he could his face reddening, he really didn’t want to remember that at this moment, especially in the way she was phrasing it he was ashamed enough at the moment. “I understand now why she wouldn’t tell you.” Gajeel just glared at her but he knew he looked confused because there was nothing, he could think of that Levy would keep from him on purpose. They always been honest with one another or best they could be at least that’s what he thought. The witch just laughed. "She’s pregnant.“
"You lie.” he managed to say as he took deep breaths as he glared at her, He never had a problem killing his enemies but it had never been personal outside Blood man but the anger rippling inside his chest the burning he felt on his face, was nothing like this. She had to be lying! Had to be! Levy would tell him! They’ve talked about this so…! The witch just laughed as her free hand moved from Levy’s face down to her stomach her hand pressed against it.
“I never liked children though, but.” she shrugged. “Maybe it won’t be so bad having successors.” and Gajeel’s stomach dropped as his eyes went wide and he shook his head muttering no under his breath. Watching as she pressed her lips against Levy’s and then in seconds it seemed like they were covered in smoke or light he wasn’t exactly sure as his red eyes clouded up in unsplit tears. He wasn’t a man to cry but, in that moment, nothing could really hold back those feelings bubbling up. The fear and anger and confusion of just where and why things went so wrong.
The smoke/light cleared to reveal only one person there and they were standing on the ground. Gajeel wanted to yell out but his throat constricted and he ended up biting his cheek to keep himself sane in that moment when he realized that Levy was laying Touka’s body on the ground, who was now just wearing some kind of towel covering and Levy stood there wearing that white lolita getup Gajeel found ridiculous but his heart skip a beat when he looked at Levy in it and in that moment their eyes connected.
He never seen her brown eyes look so dead.
Outside the lolita dress she had deep red lipstick on which seemed strange to Gajeel, but considering everything that had and was happening it was pretty much the least strange thing that had happened since that wretched woman joined the guild barely a week ago.
Levy then turned towards him and walked over and it was the way Levy walked closer to him her face holding a soft look that he knew was just for him, but her eyes stayed blank despite the smile on her face and it made him want to throw up in that moment and he sure he would have. Finally, she knelt in front of him her small calloused but the soft hand touching his face as her thumb was brushing across his high cheekbones. All Gajeel could do was glare and clench his jaw baring his teeth slightly but she just gave that smile back to him caressing his face.
And she was gone. The pressure was gone and he could hear voices around him and touches on his back as they tried to reassure him they would get Levy back, that they were Fairy Tail! and other nonsense but the Dragon slayer could only stare at the ground his fingers digging into the dirt his body hot and tired but buzzing with adrenaline.
Nothing matter in that moment before he was pulled up roughly by Lily who was now in his true form, the cat just glared at him angrily. And it seemed like no words needed to be said as Gajeel closed his eyes and took a deep breath and stood up taking off that detective coat and hat he had one and rolling up the white sleeves of his shirt and exhaled finally which felt like the first time in hours.
Gajeel wasn’t going to fail again.
