Somewhere Along Familiar Ground || Erik / Abby

Erik was out for a run. It had been some time since he had actually ventured outside into the cooler weather conditions to enjoy his daily routine. But today seemed nice enough, and he needed it more than ever. He had been home, long enough to spend some quality time with his father. Erik realized he had been letting himself get too attached to Katerina. He was allowing her to weaken him. No son of Hans would be weak, that was for sure. He figured a run in the brisk air would help him regain focus within the Academy so he could achieve his set goals: to get Katerina to fall in love with him and marry him.

Erik was so focused on himself that he didn't even realize the person running towards him, before the two of them tangled and tumbled to the ground on top of one another. "Shit, I'm so sorry," he said quickly, hoping to get up and continue on before seeing the girl who lay beneath him, Abigail. "Fancy meeting you like this," he chuckled softly, hovering above her for a moment longer, holding her eyes, before standing to help her up.

"Oh yeah, for sure!" Spencer nodded enthusiastically. He was always happy to promote his band around campus, especially to the guys. Girl always seemed to assume that he was inviting them on a date. Spencer wasn’t very good at making his intentions abundantly clear, apparently, no matter how hard he tried. "You’re telling me," Spencer laughed. "I mean, I thought being a human now would be like the weirdest transition, but it’s totally not. Which is weird, you know?" Spencer asked. "And before you have to ask, yeah, I wasn’t born human. I was born a mouse.  And I’m from France," He explained, as he felt necessary with anyone he didn’t know yet. "Oh yeah," Spencer nodded. "There’s lots of cool girls around here," Sure, Spencer had gone on some dates before he’d met Magnolia, but those girls were unimportant now, nothing much distant, distant memories. "So you’ve got a girlfriend?" Spencer asked. "Me too, her name’s Magnolia," He avoided the grin that crept up his face every time he talked about her. "We’ve been together about a year now," He explained.

"Woah a - a mouse? Gotta admit, I didn't see that one coming," he admitted, chuckling slightly. He was rather baffled by the idea. He knew it wasn't uncommon for the students of Walt to be different forms in their original homes, but it was all so odd. "So what do you like better, mouse or human? Oh and France or here?" he inquired, smiling towards Spencer so he knew his questions were all in good fun. He wasn't sure what a French mouse might take to offense. "Cool personalities, mega hot though," he chuckled, gently nudging Spencer as if urging for him to agree. His laughter settled into an embarrassed smile at the question. "Yeah, kinda, yeah. We've been together a while. Her name's Katerina. She's really - wonderful. Like no girl I've never met, honestly. She's a whole new world," he admitted, a stupid smile involuntarily falling across his face as he thought of her. "Magnolia, that's a nice name. Don't think I've ever met her though. But a whole year! Man! Kudos to you. I'm guessing she's cute, then?"

"I’m a drummer," Spencer said, wearing a proud smile. Growing up, his parents had always encouraged him, despite how seemingly impossible it would be for Spencer to ever take his music beyond his enjoyment. Never did he think that he’d say the day that he’d get to play on a full drum kit, let alone play the drums in a band. "How’re you liking it here?" Spencer asked. In his eyes, the greatest thing that ever happened to him was leaving home. He got to hang out with his best friend, become a human, and he had an amazing girlfriend. All things he never would have thought possible were he still living in the walls of the castle. Not that he didn’t love it, of course he did, he just loved this life more.

"A drummer! Man, that's awesome. You gotta let me check out your band next time you guys play!" Erik said, beaming towards the boy next to him. Hanging out with another guy was so refreshing, and reminded him of home. Erik didn't have many friends back home, spending almost all his time in the castle and trying to impress his father. He had a few friends, though, that he'd go out with. Together they'd hit the town and pick up as many girls as they could. Granted, they never went out for cheese fries, but they had fun none the less. "I like it, for sure. It's weird not being at home. But I've met a lot of great people, a lot of great girls," he smirked to himself before adding, "One girl in particular." He couldn't deny that he liked Katerina, a lot. But he wasn't sure if that was because he's spent so much time pretending to love her for his father's gain, or because he genuinely had feelings for her. For a while now, though, he hasn't been able to stop thinking about her. He just wanted to make her happy. "What about yourself?"

"Oh yeah, no problem man," Spencer nodded, his hands patting his knees in time with the drum beat playing through the car speakers. It was just habit for him now, to play along with the drums. It was how Spencer had learned most of the drums that he knew. "My band played gigs in town all the time, I got to know the area pretty well," He informed his new friend. Spencer could recognize the shops because between his girlfriend and his best friend, he’d been dragged there loads of times. "I’ve been here for two years, almost three now I think," Spencer chuckled. "What about you?"

"Your band?? No way! What do you play?" Erik inquired, the idea of a band sounding quite interesting. Erik had never played an instrument in his life, at least not a band instrument. He dabbled in the piano, just to quiet his dad's need to make his sure his son was 'cultured'. He would have loved to have something like an instrument to be passionate about. "Wow, you got me beat. I've been here about a year. It's been a pretty good one, though, I'll admit." When he looked back, it really had been an insane year, especially with Katerina and all. He didn't want to admit he wasn't sure how he really felt about it - if he really felt anything at all. Then again, it wasn't the time or place to think about such things.

Spencer slipped into a jacket, shoving his keys and his wallet into his pockets. He was pretty happy to be getting some food that didn’t come from a cafeteria, even though what he was going to go get wasn’t of any higher caliber. Spencer didn’t care, he was practically a garbage disposal. He made his way to the spot he’d told the stranger to meet him. He supposed, on some level, he should have felt sketched out, but it wasn’t like this guy gave off some sort of serial-killer vibe. “Hey,” Spencer gave the guy a handshake. “I’m Spencer,” He said with a laugh. “Alright, this place is on 8th Avenue, right between the shoe store and that clothes store.”

Erik shook the guy's hand and smiled as he took the passenger seat. It was weird not having Katerina there, as she was the only person he ever really had as company. Erik listened to Spence as he began pulling out of the parking lot. "Okay, you'll have to help me a bit just cause I know where pretty much nothing is," he admitted, laughing, "Especially not shoes or clothing stores." Erik rarely left his room, let alone did things for himself like shop. "How long have you been at this school?"

Erik grabbed everything he needed and headed out to his car to start warming it up. He figured it was common courtesy, especially considering he barely knew this kid. It was so crazy for him to be doing this, just spontaneously getting cheese fries with this stranger. He would probably argue he was still a little high from a few hours ago, though it was very unlikely. It was about time he made some actual friends at this place, so he wouldn't question his motives any further. He pulled up in front of the school where he promised to meet this guy and was pleased to find him already there. "Hey man, hop in!" Erik encouraged. "So you know, I'm Erik. And I am super stoked for cheese fries so please tell me where I'm going."
