i gotta make a proper pinned post. but um--this is a mha-centric blog. my faves are afo, yoichi, ochako, todoroki, & kind of deku. im rewatching so everything i type might not be accurate.
Finally caught up with the manga, and I'm noticing a lot of things that fans exaggerated. I was expecting much much more content that suggested certain stuff, only to see that people were being extra lmao.
Im on Ch. 53 rn, and sixty-five different things are happening at once--however, I do enjoy how each apprentice is being faced with the issue of witches vs. non-witches. Along with what it means to show magic to those who are forbidden to cast it.
I specifically like the way Coco, Tartah, and Custas's conflict and Agott's conflict is being handled.
Honestly, Coco and Agott's internal conflicts in general kind of compliment each other, and I love it sm.
Honestly, I'm surprised that Ch. 40 is considering such a shocking Qifrey moment. Before I began reading the manga, all I heard from manga readers was "Just wait till Ch. 40", "Waiting for anime-onlys to see Ch. 40", or "We don't talk about Ch. 40." And I do understand, between the previous conversation about Qifrey's selfishness involving Coco, and seeing the actual act on what was implied previously, why that moment was so significant for Qifrey's character.
But honestly, it was less impactful to me than Ch. 13.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I have not read the manga fully. But it feels as if the reactions to Ch. 40 are more in hindsight. What I mean is, it feels more impactful after you've continued past that chapter than it is in the moment, and I think that has to do with how Qifrey and Olruggio's relationship develops.
To me, as someone who just started watching and reading WHA, Qifrey and Olruggio's relationship isn't very important to me--they're friends yes, but they haven't displayed the deep connection they truly have yet. I feel like the knowledge of their relationship makes Ch. 40 feel so much more impactful than it actually is in that moment. Because to me, Ch. 40 wasnt anticlimactic per se, but I had already felt it coming and already understood where Qifrey's priorities lied.
To me, as someone who is currently on Ch. 43, Chapter 13 was more impactful to me in regards to Qifrey's character because we finally see or, rather, infer the lengths he will go to in his pursuit of the Brimmhats. The selfishness he displays, and the facade we witness when he's back with Coco- ugh, its beautiful. Genuinely, I loved how we were presented with his moral standing there. Ch. 40 is important, no doubt, and even as Im typing this, I'm really processing how imporant Ch. 40 was for Qifrey's character, but I'm only thinking that because I know what lies ahead of me, yk?

EITHER WAY--I'm so entraped in this fucking manga rn.
sometimes i question whether or not i might be correct in my headcanon about afo having autism, but then i remember he's been wearing a plain black suit and a white undershirt for two full centuries. that and specifically needing a quirk to detect lies from other people.
