Allison's Thoughts

Hi I'm Allison and this is my blog for Laura Hoffman's ENG 105 class.

My name is Allison.  I personally really like my name, and I've never really wanted any other.  I also go by Ally or Allie, but really only my family or friends call me by my nickname.  For some reason I always introduce myself with my full name, because I feel like Ally sounds too childish.  But I've always found a comfort in people calling me Ally because they're usually the ones closest to me.  I also like the fact that it has three syllables because 3 is my favorite number. Allison doesn't really have any special meaning because it just means Son of Alice, which is pretty disappointing because I’m a girl and I don’t know who Alice is. But the root name Alice, does mean “truth”, so I guess that means I'm truthful? One thing I don’t like about my name is the billions of different ways people spell it.  I always get it spelled with one L or a Y instead of the I, or a double S for some reason.  

Overall, I do love my name. It represents me, and I personally feel like it’s a really classic name, but not too old, and feminine, but not too girly. I love the flexibility of its nicknames, for when Allison sounds too serious.  But I don’t consider myself a serious person at all.

Hello! I’m selling my sister’s silver Labrador retriever.  Her name is Mila and she's currently four months old.  I didn't have much say in getting this dog, so I’ve decided to part with her.  Despite my attitude towards her she's a great dog. She knows how to use a swiffer (kind of), so if you have any dust around your house, you're in luck!  She doesn't really respond to her name when called, but that means that you can totally rename her.  One great thing about her is that she sleeps A LOT, but when she's not sleeping, she's peeing on your bedroom floor, chewing on your shoes, or biting you. But how can you be mad at those lovely green eyes? She also doesn't really know how to do anything except eat food and drink water, so don’t expect her to sit when you tell her to.  She's also great at destroying pretty much anything, so if you need to demolish anything in your home, just put it in her crate. Mila is a great swimmer, so if you have a pool she’ll jump right in.  But, she doesn't really know the difference between mud puddles and pools, so she’ll also jump in any mud puddle. She also doesn't really know how to catch a ball, so you’ll get plenty of exercise running to get it after you throw it.  

Overall, Mila is the ideal dog for any psychopath.  I highly recommend anyone with a high pain threshold and infinite amounts of patience to contact me.  I promise she’ll melt your hearts!

Satisfying, right?

This technique of painting is called acrylic pouring.  I started creating these beautiful pictures about two years ago while I was bored one summer.  One day while scrolling through Instagram, I came across a “satisfying” post of someone pouring cups of neon paint across a large canvas.  I found it to be absolutely mesmerizing and knew that I needed to try doing it myself. I’ve always loved drawing and painting, but this was a new technique that I wasn't used to.  After watching various tutorials on YouTube, I bought the supplies and tried it out for myself.  It’s truly not a difficult process at all, and even my first trial came out absolutely gorgeous.  Once I made one, I became completely addicted to making them.  Within two days, I made about 20 pieces, each one being completely unique and special.  I think that’s what I loved most about making them.  The fact that you can never get the exact same results, so each art piece became a beautiful surprise.   

Whilst in my spur of artistic madness, I made a couple videos of the process.  I posted them on my Instagram story, and got such positive feedback.  To my surprise, many people offered to buy my art!  I  ended up selling many of my pieces, and still continue to make them to this day.

To most people, this may just look like a door covered in stickers.  But to me, each sticker brings me back to a different memory of the past 7 years of my life.    In 2012, I  moved to Miami, and humbly taped on a psychedelic poster to the center of my door. At the time, I thought it was the coolest poster, and my “edgy” fourteen year old self was content with just that.  I also always had a box full of stickers from events and brands, but I just never knew where to put them, until I met my friend Tiffany.  Her room was full of stickers, lights, posters, and tapestries, and I thought it was the coolest room I had ever seen.  So, one day when I got home, I  fished out my sticker box, and began stickering my door.  I really underestimated the amount of stickers I had,  because only a quarter of my door was covered.   But, over the past six years, I’ve gone to  countless shows, events, and ordered a ridiculous amount of clothes (hehe), to a point where I  have so many stickers, that I'm trying to conserve door space.  

I think the coolest thing about my door  is the left side where all the wristbands are hanging.  One of my favorite things to do is attend music festivals. So far, I’ve attended 20 music festivals, (3 rap festivals, and 17 electronic music festivals).  For every big festival I attend, I will always hang my wristband or ticket on my door.  Most people wouldn't really find this cool because it’s just some stickers and old tickets.  But it truly means everything to me.  I always promise my parents that when I move out, I am absolutely taking the entire door with  me.

This is probably one of the coolest things I own.  I really enjoy collecting rare clothing items, so when the skate brand Supreme and Louis Vuitton collaborated on a clothing release, I knew I had to own a piece of fashion history. Supreme typically releases clothes on its website and in stores every Thursday, but this line was only released in three locations, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.  I waited in line for over 24 hours in the Miami Design District’s Louis Vuitton store with over 200 people.  I  was with my two friends and we actually had a pretty decent place in line, so I was really hoping to buy the hoodie they released as well (which is currently reselling for $10k+). When it was finally our turn to enter the store, I was informed that the hoodies had sold out, so I picked my next favorite item, the famous box logo tee shirt.  I immediately felt so cool when I was handed that bag, because I knew how rare this piece was, and the fact that I got it in a small made it even more coveted.  But, despite my absolute adoration of this clothing piece, I refuse to wear it in order for it to hold its value.  I always keep telling myself to sell it but a part of me just doesn't want to let it go.
