I hope that I was mistaken that she was sick. She is doing pretty well, last night she actually came up to the edge of the cage to see me for the first time in ages. Whenever I see her I give her so many treats her cheeks are full. She even gave me a real whiskerkiss (which is when I purse my lips and they put their little nose to your lips). I felt her little wet nose really touch my lips. She is such a sweetheart.
My sweet little Latte is still hanging in there. I think her belly is still swollen, and her butt is now closer in appearance to what a male hamster's testicles look like- but she doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. I gave her several treats, and she wanted more, was expectantly looking at me for them. I hope my baby girl is doing ok, and I hope she doesn't have to endure any pain.
I have not updated this blog in a very long time, so anybody reading it will have no idea who I am talking about, but my baby girl Latte (who I’ve had for about a year and a half) has a very swollen tummy. All I’ve read about it online is not good. She probably doesn’t have very long left. She’s an old lady, and I hope she is not in pain. I’ve told her I love her. She is literally the sweetest, calmest hamster I’ve ever had.

My little Baby Binas died tonight. She was about a year and a half old, so I guess it was time, but I still hate it. I remember when I got a whim to adopt a hamster, and she was miraculously up for adoption at the local shelter. They told me she would eat anything and would run in her ball all day, and they weren't lying about either of those things. She was a sweet girl with a very vibrant attitude, and you knew what it is that she wanted. She was also the quintessential Houdini, having escaped about 20 some times. I remember the very last time she got out I heard her in a cabinet, called her name and she actually came out to me. I buried her in her ball, with a hamster cookie, yogurt drop and a peanut. I love you, my baby Bina. I'll miss you, more than you know.
So, the mom has informed me several times that I have to update this blog (and admittedly I have not done so since August of last year). My Baby Binas is still as spoiled as ever. She has escaped probably about 20 times, now. I've had to wrap something around the latch of her supposedly "escape proof" cage so she can't get out. I can always tell when she is going to make a run for it because she packs her bags (cheeks) in preparation. The last time she got out, I found her in a cabinet. The amazing thing is that she came to me when I called her! I guess she missed mommy, either that or was ready to go home. She still takes a nightly run and gets her customary treats.
In news about my Baby Boels, she actually successfully went on the lam for two weeks, longer than Tina ever managed. She's been back for a couple of days. I despaired of ever finding her, because she is so much more shy than Binalas. I called her almost every night trying to find her to no avail. Finally, she found me. I was laying in bed and felt some movement under my body pillow that I keep up against the wall. I finally woke up enough to register what was going on, so I carefully turn over, turn on my bedside light and lo and behold- there is Zoe Boels chewing a hole in my body pillow. She had lost a lot of weight (she had gotten really FAT before her great escape) but let me pick her up and put her away. She is staring at me right now, rather timid still, scared by the sound of the keyboard. For the past couple of nights I've tried to coax her out with the promise of treats, but she hasn't been having it. Maybe she'll actually work her way over and let me hold her for once.
Anyways, to finish it all off- things are good in hammy land.
Tina and Zoe turned 1 today!
This means I've had my Baby Binas for a whole year :)
Zoe Boels, meanwhile, is still a little scaredy-hammy. It's going to take a lot of handling to get her used to me, and a lot of time. She sometimes jumps at the slightest movement near her cage, even if she's asleep. The last two pictures were taken this afternoon, and I actually caught her in an adorable yawn :)
So, the other day I was woken up to the Mom walking into my room, with a little baby Bina's head poking up out of her hands. Turns out when I filled her food bowl, I didn't get it closed tightly and a little girl got out again. I guess she decided to abandon the living room in favor of making a nest in the bathroom. This is the large amount of dog food she was able to move in one night, including that big ass dog treat. That's a LOT of food for one night. Mom said she heard a noise and wondered what was making all of it, and then saw her little face poking up over the kitty pan. She was able to get her back pretty easily.
I can only conclude that Ms. Binas will always be a little escape artist. Every time I top up and and change her bedding she is always scraping at the cage in a bid to leave.
