Directions and Parking for 2012 ALLOY Symposium This year’s ALLOY Symposium is being held in downtown New Bedford, Massachusetts. We will be between two main locations, just blocks away from each other. Please make sure to BRING YOUR BADGE to registration if you are participating in our contest, we will be taking a quick photo of it for judging. On the morning of April 14th, please meet at: 8:30 – 9:00am Registration/Check in @ CVPA Star Store, 715 Purchase St. New Bedford MA, 02740 9:00 – 9:30am Extended Registration/Check in @ New Bedford’s Park Visitor’s Center - Second Floor, 33 Williams Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 Coffee and tea will also be provided! Opening remarks will follow. Please take note: Opening reception, lectures, discussion groups and lunches: will be held at: New Bedford’s Park Visitor’s Center - Second Floor 33 Williams Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 Demonstrations, participant exhibition, UMass MFA exhibition will be held at: UMass Dartmouth College of Visual and Performing Arts - Star Store Building 715 Purchase Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 Parking: Street parking at meters is free during the weekend in New Bedford. This April, you’re invited to the intercollegiate symposium Alloy. Speakers and workshops at this event will explore boundaries and intersections of method and technique through the perspectives of maker, fabricator, artist, craftsman and metalsmith. Metalsmithing is more than a profession, more than a sharing of common tools and technique. It is an ideology, a way of making, a means of passing on knowledge, and we have an opportunity to engage in a state of union of its components. This event is planned by the UMASS Dartmouth Metals Students because of our desire to expand communal resources and to create opportunities to connect with other makers. We are eager for your participation this year in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
