Hello everyone! We had a meeting yesterday to plan some of our future events, and we have one in particular coming up which is very exciting. You may already have seen our post about Zine World zine fair, in Kilburn, London, in a little over two weeks. If not: we have got a place there to sell and share zines!! It should be great fun. (https://www.facebook.com/events/1499598376958037/?ref=ts&fref=ts) But we can’t have a table without zines to sell, and this is where you get involved. There are a few of things you can do. Have you already made a zine? Is it sitting in your desk drawer waiting to be photocopied? PERFECT! Bring along your zine to one of the THREE workshops we are running over the next two weeks, or if you’re too busy/shy, drop off some copies (ideally around 10-20) in a location TBC with a piece of paper telling us your name and email, a little info about the zine, and your price/if you will be willing to make it “swappable”. ***
We want zines with all kinds of content and theme: music, politics, art, photography, comics, feminism, food, whatever! Although, please bear in mind content which could be considered offensive as we will not accept this.Not got a zine yet but wanna make one?
We will be holding multiple workshops in the run up to Zine World, where we will help to inspire you to create your own zine on a topic that interests you, help you to put it together and create copies (we will be teaching bookbinding as well as having staplers to hand) and helping with anything else that you’re struggling with. We will also have plenty of supplies for you to use, as always.Not sure you’re ready to make a full zine?
Pop along to one of our workshops anyway, just for fun and snacks, maybe collaborate with a friend or stranger, make drawings or write articles for others zines, help us to create signage for our table, and just chat and learn more about zine craft. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to; we’re here to just support your creative endeavors!Also, whether you wanna make a zine or not, if you can get into London to attend that would be great. Come see the table and let us know you’re Sussex students, get the zine fair vibe, learn more about and buy fun and interesting zines. There will be workshops, music, and talks, and it should be an all round fun day out. Ideally, we would like to sell zines which cost no more than £2 or £3. Sure, take a little money for your hard work as well as covering the costs of photocopying/printing your zine, but remember that making money is not what zines are about!
We will keep note of what is sold and for how much through the day and then get into contact afterwards to make sure everyone receives their money.
It would also be great if you volunteered your zine to be “swappable”! We want to swap zines with other zinesters at the event, so that we can start our own zine collection as a society which we hope will be used in a future zine library project. Let us know if you’re happy to donate a few of your zines to this project when you drop off your zines. Thank you!!
