Superstar was a treat to watch.

Inherently it’s a simple love story about a star falling in love with a simple girl. She becomes famous along the way and things start to go downhill from there.

But it’s also an ode to theater. How lonely and mediocre stardom is and how essential it is to come back to the self you lost somewhere in between.

In a clever way, it also advocates for a more united film industry. The coexistence of the old and the new was a pleasant surprise. The scenes between Mahira/Bilal with Nadeem Baig, Marina Khan and Javed Sheikh were so endearing... almost as if they were gracefully passing on the mantle with the friendly caution that the new cannot flourish without the old.

The weak areas were some unnecessary scenes that the film could have done without. The acting was good. Music supported the soul of the movie in such a memorable way. There were no unnecessary numbers that comprised the story. I’m still listening to the songs on repeat ❤️

What do u think about what firdos jamal said about mahira?

I was disappointed. I loved Firdaus Jamal as an actor. However he felt about Mahira as an actress was his prerogative. It’s the ageist comments that really did it for me, like everyone else. I wasn’t surprised that he may hold those views about women in general, but I was taken aback by the sheer audacity of it all.

I was really happy to see the industry support though. I don’t know if anyone noticed or I’m the only one that cared for it but I was really hoping for Mahira’s main contemporaries to call him out. I am specifically speaking of Mehwish and Saba. I know they both have beef with Mahira but this was much bigger than professional rivalry. Calling Firdaus Jamal out in this scenario would have meant fighting for the same cause they are victims of as well - longevity of female actresses on screen. It’s one thing to shout feminist slogans and another to put your money where your mouth is.

I’ve been working so much in the past two years at a place that is all consuming and I’ve learned that I’m not such a multitasker after all 🤦🏻‍♀️ The time I did have to myself, I was busy looking after my mental health. I still love Pakistani entertainment and keep up with everything but haven’t had the time to invest in tumblr. Your message has honestly inspired me to come back.
