COFFEE. sorry for my long absence! i have had a killer headache for five days straight, so i’m just slowly dying.

also this blog will be on (semi-)hiatus until MAY SECOND. finals are coming up and i don’t feel i have the right mindset or dedication to give to alexei right now. i am not abandoning, i just need school to end. 

i’m used to writing animated muses, so alexei is a big jump for me and i don’t wanna half-ass it. in the meantime, i’ll be hanging around on akihito (though activity will be lower there too), and mutuals can always hit me up for my skype.

             the adjustment to living with a child was tremendous ; most of remus’ time & money now goes to the child. ( though the government supplemented for schooling, food, & clothing ; they hadn’t taken into account a child’s need  for entertainment & constant activity. ) remus took a breath ; deep ( counted to ten. ) opened his eyes. when he had gotten home from the grocery store only two hours ago to find alexei not within the apartment, a sense of panic had taken over. the agent was still shaking. ‘ no note ; not even a phone call. there are rules, alexei. & don’t pretend you didn’t know them ! i am trying to protect you ! ‘

               immediately, his expression sours, bright eyes glaring darkly at the floor. ❛ well it’s not like i asked for this! ❜ the words fly, unbidden from his lips. inwardly, he regrets them immediately. but how could he possibly show that? ❛ it’s not like i want to be cooped up in some strange city with a grumpy babysitter assigned to me by a government that isn’t even mine. ❜ not that his government even existed anymore. ❛ life here is boring, i’d rather find the ‘wrong’ things to entertain me than sit around and do nothing. ❜

i’ve known a bird-boned boy with a shy smile and bruised eyes full of shuttered light. he locks his clockwork heart ( steadfast, dependable ) in a rib cage, and keeps it buried in the graveyard of his mind under a headstone marked ‘ loyal ’. he wears the perfume of ancient libraries on his skin, carries the ink stains of bone brittle pages like smudged kisses against his fingertips. he is a forest ( dark & deep, with secrets to keep, oak branches woven through his veins ), but his hair smells of smoke because he is also the forest fire, and he burns himself down to cinder and ashes when he fears there is too much deadfall to breathe. he holds onto what he loves with greedy hands, with his knuckles made white & hard by determination; so much has been taken from him but this he will never surrender: his love & the ones who earn it. his hands are fine & slim, but there is a wildness in his blood that beats hard in his throat, and in his head. you shouldn’t think too much about his pretty smile, but remember the teeth. see, I know a bird-boned boy with a wolf in his belly, and the only thing fiercer than his heart ( desperate, relentless ) is his BITE.

“There is no happy ending to this.”

               death wasn’t something he was afraid of. at thirteen years old, alexei nickoaevich romanov probably understood better than most that he was going to die. even his mother seemed to fight that fact, while alexei would muse over what would take him first. 

                no, it was the pain that he feared, the anguished screams of his family as they would perish at the hands of these traitors. only, they weren’t really that anymore either. just as the romanovs were not royal. no, now they were the traitors, sent on a death march through the country. when would the end draw near?

                even nastya had lost her spark, the adventurous optimism that had livened the caste. there was nothing but gloom left, alexei’s body bound to the chair he had confined himself too. if he were to die, it should be on his own terms. perhaps he was a morbid child, in a sense, as he thought about the inevitable end his family would face.

                but his face merely paled at his sister’s whisper, pallid cheeks sticky with unshed tears. no, he couldn’t cry like this–––everyone was already suffering. how could alexei continue to add to their burdens?

        ❝  get behind me.  ❞  the woman seems to MELT out of the shadows  ( a glamour, nothing like her brother’s talent ), dressed in what would have looked to mundane’s to be men’s clothing, chocolate curls gathered up  &  out of her face. the words are directed to the boy she’d spotted, getting attacked. she moves to stand in front of him, murmuring something under her breath  &  a glowing blade springing to life in her hand.   ❝  listen to me – i need you to hide, d’you understand ??  don’t move. don’t make a  s i n g l e  sound. he’s terribly stupid, this one. but he’s got a hellish sense of hearing, don’t you ??  ❞    &  blue eyes are alight as she winks at the boy before turning back to the looming dark figure that scuttled around the alleyway, confused until she shouted.

                english. that was english, right? it would make sense, given his location–––but the words ran together in his head, making the language even harder to understand. hands pressed tightly to scraped knee, the trickle of crimson making his hands sticky and uncomfortable. he’d tripped while running, having no time to pause as blood had trickled down his leg. if that monster didn’t kill him, surely he’d bleed out soon enough (though he wouldn’t complain to either). large blue eyes stared uncomprehendingly at the magic woman who had literally appeared from the shadows. ❛ k-kakiye? ❜ hide–––the word resonated in his ears as alexei slowly backed up, back pressed against the brick. breathing escalated as he took in the futility of the situation––––he was the last romanov, after all. the revolutionaries must have summoned this beast to ensure his destruction.
