I am His; I am yours, my good Mother! By Blessed John Henry Newman
O Mother of Jesus and my Mother, let me dwell with you, cling to you and love you with ever-increasing love. I promise the honour, love and trust of a child. Give me a motherâs protection, for I need your watchful care. You know better than any other, the thoughts and desires of the Sacred Heart. Keep constantly before my mind, the same thoughts, the same desires, that my heart may be filled with zeal for the interests of the Sacred Heart of your Divine Son. Instill in me a love of all that is noble, that I may no longer be easily turned to selfishness. Help me, dearest Mother, to acquire the virtues that God wants of me: to forget myself always, to work solely for Him, without fear of sacrifice. I shall always rely on your help to be, what Jesus wants me to be. I am His; I am yours, my good Mother! Give me each day your holy and maternal blessing, until my last evening on earth, when your Immaculate Heart will present me, to the heart of Jesus in heaven, there to love and bless you and your divine Son for all eternity. Amen

If we want to be known in heaven and feared in hell we must be willing to lose our reputation here on earth.
OUR LADY OF THE PILLAR (October 12)
The first Marian apparition in history appeared to Saint James the Apostle, the brother of Saint John the Evangelist, on the bank of the river Ebro in Saragossa, Spain. Unlike every other recorded apparition, this one took place during the earthly life of the Mother of God.
According to tradition, she had promised Saint James that when he needed it most in his difficult mission to the pagans in todayâs Spain, she would appear to him to encourage him.
In the year 40Â A.D., while praying one night on the tobrt bank, the Virgin appeared with the Child Jesus standing on a pillar and asked Saint James and his eight disciples to build a church on the site, promising that âit will stand from that moment until the end of time in order that God may work miracles and wonders through my intercession for all those who place themselves under my patronage.â
The church of Our Lady of the Pilar in Zaragoza, is the first church dedicated to Mary in history and it remains standing to this day, having survived invasions and wars â in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 three bombs were dropped on the church and none of them exploded.
Our Lady is also said to have given the small wooden statue of the apparition to Saint James which now stands on a pillar in the church.
Nuestra Seùora del Pilar is the patron of Spain and all Hispanic peoples. October 12, 1492, the feast of the Virgin of the Pillar, is the day Christopher Colombus first sighted American land, and when the first Mass in the Americas was celebrated.

âI am coming soon; and with me comes the award I make, repaying each man according to the life he has lived. I am Alpha, I am Omega, I am before all, I am at the end of all, the beginning of all things and their end.â
God is a literary genius.
Even the names of the first 10 generations of mankind foretell the coming of the Messiah: Adam means âManâ Seth means âAppointedâ Enosh means âMortalâ Kenan means âSorrowâ Mahalalel means âThe blessed Godâ Jared means âShall come downâ Enoch means âTeachingâ Methuselah means âHis death shall bringâ Lamech means âThe despairingâ Noah means âComfort (or rest)â Putting this all together: âMan [is] appointed mortal sorrow; [but] the Blessed God shall come down, teaching [that] His death shall bring the despairing comfort (or rest).â I donât think this is a coincidence. (Source: Hidden Treasures in the Biblical Text, p. 11-18)
âGod is a literary geniusâ is the understatement of all time đ

âI refuse to tell young women today that they are helpless under the spell of sexual desire.â
âThe folks at Nurx saw my column condemning their terrible new app which enables teenagers to bypass their parents and their own family doctor and get hormonal contraception as though they were buying candy. Their response? Mostly laughter. They said it was âhilarious.â And they replied on Twitter with lollipops and hard candy emojis.
Yeah, I said, poisoning teenage girls is sooooo funny. They came back with the old, tired, liberal feminist pièce de rĂŠsistance: âWeâre just allowing women to control their own bodies.â
Well, hereâs the thing, Nurx:Â
Women do not need carcinogenic, blood clot-causing hormones to control their own bodies. Women are not feeble idiots.
To say that women need harmful hormones and devices that can seriously damage their health in order to prevent pregnancy is sexist and insulting. For the medical community to be so eager to flood a young girlâs growing body with these toxic hormones under the guise of âpreventionâ and âcontrolâ is shameful.
You want to empower a young girl? You want her to be in control of her destiny? Teach her the virtue of chastity. Help her learn self-mastery. Teach her to rely on her brain, and her ability to make prudent choices, to protect her from consequences she canât deal with at her age.
Help her learn to make decisions about sex that will truly safeguard her life and her health. Donât tell her the pills put her in control. Donât tell her condoms will keep her safe. They cannot do the job of her own mind and will.
You know how many STDs you have to worry about getting when youâre not having sex outside of marriage? Zero.
Guess how many times you have to fret about an unplanned pregnancy when youâre abstinent? Zero.
Guess how many unhealthy, miserable (possibly life-threatening) side effects you suffer when youâre notconsuming steroidal hormones like candy? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
A Healthy Body and a Sound Mind
The only reason young people today do not possess this ability is because no one has ever expected it of them. Theyâve never seen it lived, and never had it explained to them. Instead, they have been inundated with the opposite message.
Theyâve grown up believing they will inevitably act like animals under the influence of urges they cannot control. They have no choice but to give in to every sexual desire they may have. And then somebody hands the girls some pills.
What gives? So many women today are so particular about the food they eat. Organic milk. Organic beef. Organic chicken. Organic vegetables and fruit. Water from pristine mountain streams in France. Non-GMO everything. They donât want that chemical garbage in their bodies.
Then they swallow their daily artificial, carcinogenic steroidal hormones with that pristine mountain stream water. And somehow the irony is lostâŚâ

âParticularly prone to serious procrastination problems are children who grew up with unusually high expectations placed on themâŚor else they exhibited exceptional talents early on, and thereafter âaverageâ performances were met with concern and suspicion from parents and teachers.â
Holy SHIT
WELL THEN
Yep.
They actually tested me for a learning disability in high school because I was consistently failing math.
They discovered that I actually scored in the 80th percentile in that sort of learning.
Problem was, in every other subject, I was in the 99.8th percentile.
I had never learned how to study because I never needed toâand then, when something proved to be even the slightest bit challenging, my brain went
âLOL nope this is impossible abortâ
Meanwhile, this entire time Iâm scraping by in subjects like English. The assignments I did turn in, Iâd score top marksâbut Iâd avoid turning in projects I didnât think were âgoodâ enough.
Essentially, my brain had two settings: â100%â or â0%â.
This sort of Baby Genius shit makes kids and adolescents neurotic and self-destructive.
We learned about this in Child Development. And we learned to reward hard work and not good job. Like donât say to a child, âoh you are so smart.â Say âOh did worked so hard.â Be proud of the child, not the achievement.
Be proud of the child, not the achievement.
Decades of research have been done on this by Dr. Carol Dweck. When the emphasis is placed on effort (a factor people can control) rather than talent (an innate skill), itâs a lot easier to see mistakes as a learning opportunity rather than something you just wonât ever be good at. And kids who were encouraged by effort were also more willing to take on more challenging work and considered it a lot more fun, while the kids who were praised for their intelligence were reluctant to put themselves in a situation where they might lose that identifier as a âsmart kidâ by making mistakes, so they preferred to do work they were confident they could master. Also, the kids praised for effort wanted to compare their results to kids who got higher scores, to see where they made their mistakes, while those praised for intelligence wanted to compare their results to kids who scored lower, to reassure themselves.
Not only does this set up âsmartâ students for a lot of trouble when they enter college and start being regularly challenged, the effects last long beyond that. It can be very hard for the âyouâre so smart!â kids to unlearn as they become adults and struggle with even common adult things, and are afraid to ask for help because of that lesson they learned from misguided praise that they are supposed to be smart and supposed to know the answers.Â
âŚHonestly +1 here.  Itâs very well researched and documented and yeah.  Making the emphasis on âYou succeed and we are proud of you b/c you are SMART as an intrinsic quality!â makes failure/setbacks/difficulty -TERRIFYING- b/c if youâre âsmartâ it doesnât happen and if you fail that means youâre not smart and thatâs what everyoneâs drilled into you as your main point of worth.
And the rates of anxiety disorders among âgifted studentâ kids are kinda horrifying. Â Â
This is why âyouâre so smartâ means absolutely nothing to me any more. Itâs used as punishment as often as itâs used as praise.Â
