In a galaxy far, far away..

Grogu quickly rose to his feet as well, his little legs moving faster in an attempt to keep up with Din. Instead of trying to talk more, he grew quiet, observing their surroundings, sensing other creatures were near before he was able to see them.

By the time they reached the shallow part of the river, his attention was already drawn towards the frogs. He all but licked his lips in anticipation. Frogs were a rare treat.

He was about to start walking, but stopped when he heard Din's warning. Tilting his head in order to look up at him, he nodded to show he understood. Remembering all too well how one of the pretty frogs at made his tongue tingle strangely.

"Patu!"

He exclaimed merrily as he moved closer towards the river and climed on one of the rocks, where he sat down, calmly observing his surroundings while he waited for the perfect chance to strike..

Grogu found his place amongst the rocks, and Din settled onto the grass by the river once again. This was a nice spot as far as drying was concerned; the sun above them shone with a bright warmth that permeated his bodysuit, touching all the way down to the skin.

Around Grogu's little body, a number of frogs chirped and croaked. Some jumped haphazardly, but when their wide eyes caught a glimpse of the child seated amongst them, they quickly scampered back out of reach.

As the minutes passed, however, Grogu was gradually accepted as one of the many aspects of the nature around them. The frogs that jumped no longer feared hopping in his vicinity, moving as naturally as they would have even without Grogu's presence there.

A mud-coloured frog landed with a wet smack on a rock just at Grogu's side. It croaked, big eyes staring at the winged bugs hovering close enough they were almost kissing the water. It seemed this frog, too, was waiting for a chance to get its dinner.

Din watched all this happen with a patient curiosity. A part of him couldn't help but feel proud; Grogu had certainly matured in his hunting, especially since he could remember when the little one simply chased anything that moved.

Grogu closed his eyes when the frogs scurried away from him and focused on his breathing. Using his senses to determine when the frogs were getting closer. Patience was something he was still learning.

He smiled when the frogs gradually hopped in his vicinity. He opened his eyes and watched the mud-coloured frog with interest. Using the frog's moment of distraction to strike, he grabbed it in a fluent motion and held it in both hands so it couldn't wiggle or hop free from his grip.

After which he wolfed the frog down within a matter of a minutes, letting out a statisfied burp once he had finished his snack. Feeling greedy, he tried to grab another frog from his perch on the rock. Missing it by a hair, he fell into the water with a splash, sending the frogs that hadn't scurried off during his meal to scamper away in all directions.

He quickly came up for air, spitting out water, before he burst out laughing in amusement. He was just as soaked now as he had been after his swimming lessons..

Grogu's ears perked up in delight when he heard Din laugh. He observed him with a curious look in his eyes, but he was soon distracted when he started to rub his ear. He instinctively leaned into the touch while it lasted, closing his eyes for a moment.

They opened just as quickly when he brought up frogs though. He nodded faintly, thoughtfully almost as he considered this new information. Interesting.

He giggled and beamed at him once more when he heard what he said next. He clapped his little hands in delight at the prospect. Playfully rubbing one hand over his stomach to indicate that he couldn't wait..

Grogu is as predictable as ever, at least as far as food is concerned. Din chuckles, giving him one last pat on the head, and then gets to his feet. Beneath the soles of them, the dirt and grass feel nice and soft, even as mud dries on his skin.

"All right," he says. "Let's go."

Without anything pressing demanding their time, Din is happy to take a leisurely pace along the riverbank. The sounds of nature surround them, sweet and calming, and somewhere in the back of his mind he thinks that he wouldn't mind living like this forever.

Eventually the river widens over a spot dotted with smooth rocks and dirt, and the water runs shallow. Din doesn't even need to use his visor to zoom in further; the chirping of frogs reach his auditory receptors, telling well enough of what lurks before them.

"Remember: you can only eat the dull-looking ones." Hands on his hips, Din's helm dips to regard his son at his side. "The prettiest creatures are tricksters. They'll upset your stomach for sure."

Grogu quickly moved in closer when din held out his arm for him and let out a little sigh in response to what he said. His eyes closed the moment Din started to rub his head. His ears involuntarily twitched a little in response. He hummed contently, relaxing in the sunlight.

He partially opened his eyes when he heard what he said next. To beam at him in response to his question, nodding enthusiastically. He wasn't quite fluent at speaking yet, so babbling ensued while he started to mimick swimming and fishes in rapid succession. Followed by the sound of a croak that he was certain Din would understand. He loved hunting for frogs after all..

Din laughs (and, gods, with Grogu the sound comes so easy), turning his helm towards the river as if he could see every creature Grogu mentioned all at once. Deftly, the tips of his fingers rubbed behind Grogu's ear in a delicate display of affection.

"There aren't a lot of frogs here, though," he says, and in an attempt to teach his ad'ika something new, he adds, "The river's too deep, and it moves too quickly for them to settle properly."

He looks down the length of the river, following the current's direction, and lets out a thoughtful hum.

"Let's go to where the water's shallower," Din offers, dipping his helm to watch Grogu's little face. "Maybe you can find a snack there while I dry off."

Grogu flashed him a big, toothy grin before shaking his head back and forth in an attempt to get rid of the water on his head, making his large ears flap a little.

He blew a raspberry when he heard what Din said next. His eyes widened when the realisation dawned on him. The last thing he wanted was to make Din uncomfortable while they played.

"So-wy."

He managed to utter, scooting closer so he could cuddle against his side.

The apology weakens his resolve-- that and the way Grogu comes closer in what Din's sure is an attempt at cuddling. It reminds him, however briefly, of his own time as a Foundling, longing for his buir's attention and being too shy to ask for it. Despite the real warning bell that Din might be spoiling him, he holds his arm out to pull Grogu in.

"It's okay," he assures him, bare hand gently rubbing the top of his son's head. Being able to hear Grogu's voice form words still feels like a remarkable luxury, and it makes his smile ring in his voice.

"I'm grateful you still wanted to play, even if you couldn't see me."

Helm tilting, Din's palm stays flat atop Grogu's head. "You seem to really like the water. Yeah?"

Din sighs, but the sound comes with quite a bit of fondness attached to it. Though he turns his T-visor in Grogu's direction in an attempt to give him a look, the big smile on the child's face doesn't seem to be fading any time soon.

All right. Maybe it won't hurt to indulge him.

"...it was a little" -- Din brings his index and thumb close together -- "fun.

"You forget I had to wear this the whole time, kid."

Gesturing to his drenched body suit, Din's head tilts in emphasis. Grogu had the benefit of playing in the water without having to ruin his coat; Din will need to dry in the sun a while longer, still.

(But he did like playing in the river with his son.)

“Grogu? What happened?!” Phasma asked in a panic. The youngling seemed to be okay, which was good, but it was a bit strange to see him on the floor like that.
