You donât make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.
Ansel Adams (via lensblr-network)
To love is not weak. Love is the strongest thing there is.

If youâve been abused, at all, by anyone, thereâs going to be a voice in your head saying things like, âyou canâtâ, âyouâre not good enoughâ, âyouâre just trying to show offâ, âyouâre too worthlessâ. We struggle to feel like we can do it. But Anne has a really good point. So do ALL the stuff, because when you get to dying, youâll realize there was never any good reason at all not to.
Tracee Ellis Ross photographed by Mert & Marcus during the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards
I was going to die, if not sooner then later, whether or not I had ever spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silences will not protect you.

You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.
James BaldwinÂ
Our children will not survive our habits of thinking, our failures of the spirit, our wreck of the universe into which we bring new life as blithely as we do. Mostly, our children will resemble our own misery and spite and anger, because we give them no choice about it. In the name of motherhood and fatherhood and education and good manners, we threaten and suffocate and bind and ensnare and bribe and trick children into wholesale emulation of our ways.

RESOLUTION # 1,003 I will love who loves me I will love as much as I am loved I will hate who hates me I will feel nothing for everyone oblivious to me I will stay indifferent to indifference I will live hostile to hostility I will make myself a passionate and eager lover in response to passionate and eager love I will be nobodyâs fool
June Jordan, Haruko/Love Poems (via 1-85381-628-0)
I seldom invite people to have lunch or dinner with me. But theyâre really chosen. Because i canât spend time with people that i donât enjoy. I canât do it anymore as theatre. I make choices, and thatâs such a beautiful thing about growing up. Learning to say no. In a nice way, you say no. I have this friend of mine, he was in the island, in fact 30 years ago when we first started, and we parted. We just went different ways in our lives. Once he came back to me, he said âFrancis, you donât like me anymore.â and i said no, itâs not that i donât like you. Weâve chosen different styles of life. I still have these beautiful souvenirs of all the things we did together and how close we were and so on. But the truth is, itâs not that you bore me, but i donât enjoy talking to you anymore and i donât want to fight with you but you know thereâs nothing in common between your life and mine nowadays. I would have never said that to him, but he asked me, so what could i say. I said the truth. But growing up has a bit to do with that too. Being able to tell the truth. To show who you are, even if it hurts.
