Hello from Alpha Base, the Washington state branch of the Rebel Legion!
We might be biased, but we think being in the Legion is pretty great. We are invited to appear in costume at all types of events, from visits to Children’s Hospital, library programs, parades, food drives, and the occasional pro sports game or movie premiere. Events vary a bit from base to base, so to see what Alderaan Base is up to, take a look at what they’ve been posting on their facebook page. Alderaan Base also has a twitter and website you can take a look at as well.
Our age range is 18 and up. You probably won’t be the baby.
You will definitely be able to find people to help you with whichever costume you choose. You’ll probably be able to find people locally to help by posting on the Alderaan Base forum, but if a particular costume stumps them, then you can look on the more general Costume & Prop making forum. Most costumes have tutorials.
You don’t have to have a cool cosplay name, but you do need to make an account on the Rebel Legion forum, so think up a forum name for that.
There is no judgement made on facial features, or body type, gender, race, eye color, hair color (usually- Mara Jade is an exception for hair color, you need to have red hair or a red wig for that costume), etc. so you will be perfectly fine with a Leia costume even if you don’t look like Carrie Fisher in 1977. Very few of us do. The only thing that is judged to be screen accurate is your costume, hair style, and any props.
Getting involved is pretty straightforward. Make a forum account, then post on the Alderaan Base forum and talk a bit about yourself and what costumes you’re interested in. Ask if there are any public events coming up that you can attend or be a spotter for.
Your Base Membership Officer has a Boussh!Leia costume, so she should be able to help you out a lot. Send her a PM!
You can also always message us with any questions you have, and we'll do our best to answer.
May the Force Be With You!
