The Atypical Alpha

I'm Paul E. James. Age 22. I was a beta in a pack that I ended up eventually losing. Now I'm the alpha of a new pack.

{He blushes} Well, I uh...don’t have a problem with that. {He squeezes Liam’s hand again} Go ahead with doing that.

Nasir smiled back at Paul after he said those words. Paul was always so kind. He guessed it was one reason why they were so close. However, Paul also seemed to be an anxious individual. He was not surprised this was something that stressed him out. “I understand. I’m sorry for putting it on your mind. I hope it doesn’t bother you too much as I’m sure you will be fine. As long as you two love each other. Commitments and other things will matter.” Nasir told him and took another turn. “We are close…Nasir time is ending”

It looked as though his idea to comfort Nasir did indeed make him feel better, which made the alpha happy. That happiness actually returned somewhat when he saw that, surprisingly, his own stressing out over the marriage topic had seemingly made Nasir stressed out. Or at least caused him to ramble it little. It was oddly cute, though it was more so concerning. So the alpha gave his shoulder another comforting squeeze. “It’s okay, Nasir. I’ve got plenty of time to think it over and maybe one day I’ll consider it. Although I, uh, I appreciate how understanding you’re being and assuring me of things.” He told him while giving him a smile of his own. That smile left his face when Nasir pointed that their time together was coming to an end. Paul looked at the street they were on and then let go of his shoulder to drop his hand as he let out a slightly disappointing sigh. Only slightly because as much as he didn’t want it to end yet, it was like Nasir earlier: they could always hang out again another day. “You’re right, sadly.”

“Then lets try it. I’m sure my back will be a good pillow” He joked and played with Paul’s hair a little. He then walked towards the bed and sat down on it and started to take off his shoes. “Are you the small spoon with Tobias as well?” He asked.

Paul chuckled slightly as Theodore messed with his hair. “Ok” He simply said after that while nodding in agreement. Once in the room, the alpha sat next to him to do the same. “Sometimes I am. We’re much closer in height, so it’s more like we take turns. Although, really, it all depends on which role at least one of is in the mood to be.” He told him finishing with getting his shoes off. The alpha then gets up to walk over to where he put his bag, opening it and pulling out his sweatpants.

[He smiles after the kiss]. Not a problem…and we should totally do this again another day.

{He smiles back} I would love that. When you know a day that’ll be good for us to do this again, let me know.

“Me too. I’m used to it by now…but that’s not really something I should get used to, you know what I mean?” Nasir said. He tried not to let it get to him, but sometimes it was inevitable the way Jackson spoke about them. It wasn’t like Milo was te friendliest either, but at least he wasn’t being nasty. “Oh no I never meant it like you need to right now…though you could always just get engage. Peter and I were engage for like two years before getting married.”

“I do, though I also agree with you that it’s something you shouldn’t get used to it.” Paul said before over and placing a hand on Nasir’s shoulder to give it a comforting squeeze. Since he didn’t know what to say or do to help the situation he was being told about, he wanted to at least make the other male feel better. As Nasir explained himself about the getting married topic and spoke about getting angaged, the alpha let out a sigh. “I know you didn’t. I was just... I was unprepared to talk about something like this. Even getting engaged... It’s a huge thing that I’ve never considered or have given much, if any, thought.” He said before looking out of the window on his side of the car.

Theodore took his time in at least making things decent so it didn’t look like a mess in the morning. “Considering how tall I am, I’m not sure that’s the best idea, but we could try it if you want.” Theodore shrugged and then started to walk to the bed.

Paul had changed his mind as he now decided to stay where he was and wait for Theodore get done. Once that happened, the alpha started walking next to the taller man. “I’m not sure I want to, but it couldn’t hurt to try it out at least once. We can even switch back to the usual roles later if one of us isn’t liking it.”

{He leans back to give him a kiss on the cheek as best he could} Don’t worry. I’m not anymore. {He gives Liam’s hand a squeeze} Well, it would be good to know for the future, so yeah. I’d appreciate it if you did.

“Thanks. He just…needs to resolve his issues and his issues with his own father. Maybe after that he won’t be a pain the ass anymore.” Nasir chuckled. Another chuckle came out because he could sense the tension after he asked that question. He didn’t expect it, but he was also no surprised. “That’s fine. You don’t even have to get married if you don’t want to.Being together is enough for some I have learned recently, but that’s of course up to you and Tobias.” He shrugged.

“Yeah, I understand that. Well I hope for the best with that for all three of you.” He said with his smile still present on his face for that brief moment. Paul listened to Nasir talk about him not marrying and eventually the alpha looked down at his lap before letting out a sigh. “We might one day. I mean, I’m not really against the idea of marrying Tobias. It’s just...I’m not sure right now if it’s the right time for us to take such a big step like that.”

“Alright then. Go ahead and change. I’ll just clean the table. We can do the dishes tomorrow.” He told him. Theodore knew he only had to change pants. He was in a comfortable shirt. “I’m assuming you are small spoon right?” Theodore asked.

“Ok.” That was all Paul said as he nodded. He was about to leave and hed to the bedroom, but then stopped himself from doing so due to Theodore’s question, making the alpha turn to face him again. “I usually am, so yeah... Unless...Do you want to be the small spoon this time?” He asked back while tilting his head.

No, it’s not that. I was just confused, which is why I asked you to explain. Uh, no. At least I don’t think I do. I mean, I haven’t been told that I do.

“Peter? They are going well. It is pretty stable, quiet. I thought dating Peter could come with a lot chaos, but that was only when we started. Right now the only issue we have is Jackson, who still dislike us together. What about you and Toby? Getting married soon?”

Paul didn’t really know Peter or Jackson that well as he had only just heard about them through other people. If he had met either of them, he had certainly forgotten. Even so, because of that, he knew he sadly wasn’t going to be able to make this conversation last long. So he didn’t he really try to with what he actually said. “I see... That sucks about Jackson, but I’m glad to hear that that’s the only issue going on with you guys.” He smiled at him for a brief moment, and that was due to the question he received about marraige. He never thought he’d get a question like this during the remaing Nasir time he was getting with this car ride. “Uh, no. We...we don’t have any plans for it in the near future. At least for now. I, um, haven’t even given it any thought really.”

Theodore laughed. “I do too, but don’t worry. We won’t talk about a shirtless guy I don’t like anymore.” He claimed as he collected plates and silverware  before he brought them to the dishwasher. “Do you want to get into more comfortable clothes?” Theodore asked him. He was fine like this, but comfortable clothing always made sleep better.

Both the laugh and Theodore deciding to drop the subject now eased Paul’s worry. The alpha watched him bring everything else to the dishwasher and the nodded at the question asked. “Uh, yeah. I do. I brought my own pair of clothes to change into, including sweatpants.” He told him, now remembering the small bag he put in Theodore’s bedroom when he first arrived.

“Yeah. You shouldn’t be missing out a shirtless Derek. He is way more attractive than Nasir too.” Theodore commented before taking another bite. Credit was  given when it needed to be given. “Is alright. Are you done with your plate? He asked before he got up. There were dishes that needed to be done but they could wait. “Sure, we can cuddle. Lets just put the dishes in the dishwasher first and then we can go straight to cuddles and sleep.”

More attractive than Nasir? Well, it was possible the alpha would agree with Theodore if he were to ever meet Derek, but this conversation was starting to go in territory Paul was feeling it shouldn’t. Well for him anyway. “Um, no thanks. I’ll just take your word on that. If I want to see an attractive shirtless guy, I’ve got my boyfriend.” He said. Paul just nodded to the question plate, though only grabbed it and the other stuff he used when Theodore said they could go cuddle now. So with a smile on his face, he brought everything over to the dishwasher and put them in before waiting for Theodore to do the same so they could go to his bed together.

“Good. Is there anything specific you want to talk about?” Nasir asked him as he drove.

Paul didn’t really have anything specific in mind he wanted to discuss with Nasir at the moment. However, he didn’t want this being a boring car ride, so thought a bit until he came up with a topic. “Well uh...how are things with you and Peter going?”

I didn’t mean it as a bad thing, more like a cute thing. I’m a little bit. I don’t snore…at least not loudly so you don’t have to worry about that.

Cute? I’m sorry, you’re gonna have to explain that to me. {He smiles softly} Good to know. Although I was never worried about you snoring.

Nasir wore a huge smile after the kiss. “I know you are, just like I’ll enjoy every single second of Paul time.” Nasir told him. “I’ll just drive a little slower.”

Paul just nodded until Nasir said he’d drive slower, which made his smile grow. “Um... ok. Thanks. I... I appreciate getting a little extra time with you.”

“You have not? That’s a little strange…maybe he hasn’t because of me.” He thought out loud. “Hopefully you do. He is…as much as I don’t like him, he is a very attractive man more so when he doesn’t shave.” Theodore chuckled. Just because he didn’t like him it didn’t mean he couldn’t appreciate him. Theodore took another bite as he understood why Paul was a little confuse. “Oh no. I meant the pizza”

Paul wasn’t sure what Theodore meant by it being meybe because him. That was until Theodore admitted to not liking Derek, which he spent only few seconds wondering why that was. That was because of the rest of what Theodore said right after that. “You...hope that I meet someone you don’t like...because he’s very attractive?” He asked in a cconfused tone, not even sure if he was understanding him right. That was probably why he didn’t realize what Theodore was talking about with the two versions until he was told it was pizza. Atleast he thought that was why. “Oh... I’m Sorry. I guess I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should’ve.” He said while rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. Eventually the alpha stood up to stretch. “So, uh... is it time to cuddle now?”
