âIâm fine,â he responded quickly. He was fine. He wasnât sick. Whatever he had done to himself was surely easily reversible, and he frowned heavily, arms crossed tightly over his chest. He tried to tell himself that James had no way of knowing that anything was up, that he hadnât even realized that Albus had dropped a chocolate frog into his bag, but he couldnât help but worry, âThat was just a little cold,â he lied easily, âItâs gone now, and Iâm fine.â
He arched an eyebrow at his brother. A part of him felt a bit victorious. After all, his brotherâs words were an almost near imitation of his own, so he could easily turn this around on him. Another part, however, felt worried, âLiar,â he accused, narrowing his eyes, âWhatâs going on with you? I know something is.â
âFine, fine. Iâll drop it but you have to promise youâll go to the hospital wing if it gets any worse.â It probably was just a cold, James had always had a tendency to overreact, but he couldnât help it. He was a worrier, it was just a part of who he was.Â
âNothing is going on.â James said almost too quickly, a hand reaching up to tug at his hair as he sighed heavily. He was a shit liar, and Al was his brother. He knew him too well. âReally, itâs nothing.â He instinctively looked back towards his bag, making sure the handle of whiskey had been well hidden and was about to quickly avert his attention anywhere else when he came to a realization. âI havenât gone to Honeydukes yet. How did this get into my bag?â
âYeah, yeah, sure,â Albus brushed off his brotherâs words. The idea of going to the Hospital Wing, where they would undoubtedly find out what he had done, was not one that he wanted to think about. If it got worse... well, he didnât know what he was going to do, but thatâs why he just had to keep going on with what X was telling him to do until he could figure out how to reverse it. He knew that James was just worried, and frankly so was he, but there was no use in letting him know what was going on.
He raised an eyebrow at James. Something was up with him and he knew it, but he had no idea what. He opened his mouth to argue with him again when James mentioned the candy, and he quickly snapped his mouth shut, âUh, no idea,â he responded awkwardly, shrugging as he lied, âMaybe you just forgot about it?â
