Part Two: A Second Chance
Pairing: Dennis Whitaker x F!Reader
Summary: A week after your less-than-ideal encounter with Dennis, you find yourself in his presence again. This time, however, you're his patient.
Contains: Mentions of blood, injuries, stitches, and needles, swearing, fluff, Trinity being Trinity, Dennis and Reader being down bad for each other
Word Count: ~2.1k
A/N: Sorry this took so long—I rewrote the dialogues at least five times. Thank you for all the kind words on the first part!
Part One
It’s been a week since you met Dennis at the grocery store, and you’ve thought about him more often than you’d like to admit.
You have tried looking for him online, but with no last name or profession, your searches have been fruitless.
Today, you’re sitting in the waiting room for the PTMC Emergency Department with a blood-soaked dish towel wrapped around your hand. After an accident while cooking, you’ve ended up with a deep slice in your palm.
The room is hot and crowded with patients growing irritated. A small television in a corner plays the news, which is running a segment on the recent structure collapse at a waterpark nearby.
You overhear from a conversation between other patients that one woman had the bottom half of one of her legs completely severed.
You fan yourself with the intake folder you were given upon checking in, holding pressure on your wounded hand to stop the bleeding.
There isn’t much to do besides scroll through your phone. You open Instagram.
The little voice in your head says to try looking for Dennis again. You can’t help it.
Maybe this time will be different.
Unfortunately, this time is just as unsuccessful as your previous attempts. Disappointment pains your chest, just as strong as it was the day you met.
Still searching for him is creepy, you tell yourself.
It wasn’t meant to be, and that’s okay. I just need to move on.
You sigh, then turn your phone off and lay it face down on your lap.
You sit in silence, eavesdropping on the various conversations happening around you:
The woman behind the glass who checked you in talking to a patient about insurance coverage.
The mother sitting across from you with her son, talking on the phone about how he shoved a rock up one of his nostrils.
The two patients standing by one of the walls complaining about how the waiting room needs more chairs and better air conditioning.
Now that is something you can agree with.
Your name is soon called. The double doors to the ER open, and there is a nurse waiting for you.
“Hi. I’m Perlah and I’m going to be your nurse today,” she tells you. Her demeanor is kind and calm, allowing you to briefly forget about your injury.
She leads you to a room with a large glass door, and closes it behind you. You sit down on the hospital bed. She begins taking your vitals.
“Okay. Temperature, blood pressure, and pulse ox all look good. l’ll go ahead and put these in your chart and I’ll be back with a doctor soon.”
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
“There’s a patient in North 6 with a hand lac who’s ready for a doctor,” Perlah says, standing in front of where Dennis, Trinity, and Samira are charting.
“I got it. Just give me a second.” He shoves the last bit of his protein bar into his mouth before picking his stethoscope up from his desk and placing it around his neck.
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
A quick knock raps on the glass door to your room.
Perlah walks in with a familiar face following close behind.
“Hello. I’m Dr. Whit—,” he begins, looking down at his tablet.
He looks up.
“Oh.”
“Dennis?”
Perlah glances between the two of you.
“Do you two know each other?”
“We just met last week,” you tell her. “It’s a bit of a funny story.” Dennis’ cheeks start to redden as he remembers the incident.
Get it together, he thinks.
He clears his throat.
“Right,” he gloves up. “Let’s see what we have here.” He steps towards you and begins to unwrap your hand.
“What happened?”
“I was cutting up some vegetables and the knife slipped out of my hand. I went to catch it without thinking, and, well…” you trail off.
He gently examines your hand.
“Can you wiggle your fingers for me?”
You move your fingers around and wince at the pain.
“Great. No injury to any ligaments, so you won’t need surgery,” he states.
“The bleeding has mostly stopped which means you didn’t cut an artery.”
“Thank God,” you breathe.
“You’re definitely gonna need some stitches, though.”
Great.
He looks over to Perlah.
“Can you get me 200 milligrams of lidocaine and a suture tray?”
She nods. “Do you want me to do the stitches?”
“No, it’s alright. I can do this one.”
She exits the room.
“How’ve you been? Minus the injury, of course,” he asks you.
“Good. Yeah, I wasn’t expecting to end up here today, but I guess the universe wants to keep me on my toes.”
He laughs.
“What about you?”
“Busy. I could definitely use a vacation.” His tone is light, but you can tell there is truth to it.
“I can’t even begin to imagine the stuff you must see every day,” you say.
“It can be a lot, but I love helping people.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I’ve only been your patient for a few minutes and I can already tell you’re good at what you do.”
He smiles.
“That means a lot.”
Perlah soon returns with a syringe and cart of suture supplies.
“Alright,” Dennis says looking up at you. “I’m gonna give you a shot to numb the area so you won’t feel the stitches. You’re gonna feel a pin prick and some burning.” You nod and turn your head away.
“Don’t like needles?”
“Absolutely not,” you say.
“It’ll be quick. I promise,” he assures.
He holds your injured hand in place and administers the shot. You wince at the pain.
The burning is intense but short-lived.
"Any discomfort at all?”
"No, I'm good."
He begins the suturing. You—thankfully—can’t feel the needle entering your skin.
Neither of you say a word, letting the sounds of the hospital surround you. On the outside, he looks as if he is concentrated on what he’s doing, but his mind is swarming with thoughts.
Out of every patient he could have, it’s you.
The woman he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about.
The woman he made himself look like a complete fool in front of.
The woman he has tried looking for online, but can never find.
Your mind is doing something similar.
Out of every doctor you could have possibly had, it’s Dennis.
The guy you can’t stop thinking about.
The guy who you searched for multiple times with no luck.
The guy who… has a girlfriend.
You push those thoughts down.
Deep down.
At some point, you gain the confidence to look down at your hand as he works. He makes intricate knots with the thread as he weaves through the edges of your cut.
"How long did it take you to get stitches right?”
The sound of your voice makes him look up.
"It took a while. I won’t lie,” he admits.
"Could've fooled me. You seem like a pro at this." He gives an awkward smile.
"Thank you. It’s a lot of practice.” He takes a breath. “You're doing great, by the way," he encourages.
He finishes the stitches and bandages you up after a few more minutes.
“All done.”
He scoots back. You breathe a sigh of relief.
“You need to keep it dry for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. After that, wash it gently with some mild soap three times a day.”
You nod as he continues, taking in all the information he gives.
“I’m gonna go grab your discharge papers. It’ll have all the wound aftercare instructions on it if you forget anything.”
“Thank you, Dr. Whitaker.”
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
Dennis leaves the room, a blush spreading on his face from your comment. As he walks towards the nurses station, he sees Perlah, Princess, and Trinity speaking Tagalog in hushed voices.
He’s able to determine that the conversation is about him when Trinity glances over at him and Princess and Perlah look down and act like they’re working.
“Is something going on?”
“Seems like we're the ones who should be asking that question, Huckleberry. You’re giving that patient some extra special attention,” Trinity prompts.
Might as well bite the bullet.
He motions for her to follow him and he leads her away to a more secluded spot.
“Do you remember that woman I met at the store last week?”
“You mean the one you made yourself look like a complete idiot in front of? Yeah, I remember you mentioning it once or twice,” she states with sarcasm.
He stays silent, giving her a moment to connect the dots.
“Wait. That’s her?”
He nods.
“You’re gonna man up and ask for her number this time, right?”
“I can’t do that. She’s my patient.”
“Not for much longer.”
He doesn’t look convinced.
“Seriously, Huckleberry? You talked about her for days. Just ask for her fucking number.” He doesn’t say anything.
“Fine. I'll just do it for you.”
With that, Trinity spins on her heel and starts to walk towards the room you’re in. Dennis reaches his arms out to stop her.
“Okay! Okay, I’ll ask her. Please don’t get involved. I don’t need her thinking I’m a creep or... something.”
“If you say so.”
The two of them walk back towards the nurses station and Dennis prints your discharge papers.
Once he leaves, Trinity turns to the two nurses.
“Looks like Huckleberry’s got a girlfriend”, she whispers.
“Alright, ladies, enough of the gossip,” Dana tells them. “Let’s get back to work. This is a hospital.”
She would never say it out loud, but Dana can’t help but be curious at the fact that their farm boy might have a love interest.
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
When Dennis returns to your room, you’re sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Okay, you’re all set,” he says.
There’s a hint of something in his voice, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. Disappointment, maybe?
“Thank you for helping me, Den—Dr. Whitaker,” you correct yourself.
“You can just call me Dennis. And you don’t have to thank me. I’m just doing my job.”
“Which is exactly why I’m thanking you. Your job is literally saving people’s lives.”
“That is true… it just feels kinda strange to hear, you know?”
“I understand, but you deserve to hear it.”
Your words make a burst of warmth fill his chest.
“I’m really glad you’re here,” he says. “Not that I wanted you to get hurt or anything—it’s just that I was hoping I’d see you again.”
You giggle.
“Yeah, me too.”
Is this too far?
“Honestly, after the other night, I haven’t stopped thinking about you,” he looks down at his feet, not wanting to see your reaction.
“Really?” There’s something in your voice—hope?
“I’m sorry if I overstepped by saying that. I totally understand if—”
You cut him off.
“I haven’t stopped thinking about you either,” you admit. “I really wanted to ask for your number, but then you got that phone call.”
Phone call?
Trinity.
“Oh—that was just my friend. It’s not like that at all, I swear. I was at the store picking stuff up for her since she was sick.”
He doesn’t have a girlfriend.
It feels like a weight is lifted off your shoulders.
You let out a laugh of disbelief.
“I thought you had a girlfriend this whole time.”
“Nope, but,” he hesitates. “I was hoping I would soon. That is, if you’d like to go out sometime?”
“Yes,” leaves your mouth almost too fast. You turn to grab your phone off the bed.
“Here.” You give Dennis your unlocked phone.
He makes a contact for himself:
Dennis Whitaker :)
You smile at his added embellishment.
“I’ll text you tonight.”
“Perfect.”
Suddenly, his pager buzzes.
“Yeah?” There’s a pause. “Okay. I’ll be there soon.”
He hangs up.
“Duty calls.”
You look down.
Neither of you want to leave.
“At least let me walk you to the doors,” he says.
Once you reach the double doors that lead to the waiting room, you stop.
“Thank you again. You might just be the best doctor I’ve ever had.”
“And you might just be the best patient I’ve ever had.”
He opens one of the doors and you bid each other goodbye.
You leave the hospital, injury completely forgotten, one thought going through your head:
I cannot believe that just happened.
You and Dennis have found each other once again, and this time, you didn’t let him get away.
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
Dennis makes his way back to the hub, where an incoming trauma is coming through the ambulance bay.
“Whitaker, Santos, Mohan—you’re with me,” Dr. Al-Hashimi calls out.
Trinity stands across from him at the gurney. She looks at him expectantly, wanting to know the outcome.
He gives one solid nod while they make their way into a trauma bay. She smirks.
Atta boy, Huckleberry.
⋆✴︎˚。⋆
It’s almost 9 P.M. when Dennis and Trinity arrive home.
She still hasn’t texted.
Disappointment burns in his chest.
Don't stress, Dennis.
He gets in the shower, washing the smell of blood and hand sanitizer off of his body.
He immediately checks his phone as soon as he steps out. To his surprise a text notification pops up from an unknown number:
Do you believe in fate?
Another A/N: Ngl, I hate the last bit of this, but I think it's the best it's gonna get. Thank you for reading! <333

Part One: An Unlucky Introduction
Pairing: Dennis Whitaker x F!Reader
Summary: You meet Dennis Whitaker at the grocery store after an unexpected event brings you together.
Contains: Fluff, swearing, brief angst
Word Count: ~1.4k
A/N: A much needed Dennis Whitaker meet-cute.
Part Two
You sit on your couch scrolling through social media, the show you put on long forgotten. A recipe for homemade peach cobbler pops up on your feed, and it looks absolutely divine. Your mouth waters.
You had an excruciatingly long day at work, and now you think it’s only fair that you are rewarded with a treat, even if it is one that you have to make yourself.
That's how you end up at the grocery store at almost 9pm, crossing off items from the ingredient list as you make your way through the aisles. The cool air serves as a pleasant contrast to the summer humidity.
Flour, check.
Unsalted butter, check.
Vanilla ice cream, check.
All you need now are the peaches.
There is a certain atmosphere about a grocery store at night. Some may call it eerie, while others may call it calm. You find yourself in the ladder group. It’s refreshing to be able to shop without having to wait in line or navigate around other shoppers.
You walk up to the peaches and begin inspecting their ripeness, putting the ones you want into a plastic produce bag.
A man is standing across from you at the avocados, basket-in-hand, seemingly doing the same.
He immediately catches your eye. Soft blond curls sit on his forehead and the nape of his neck as he looks down.
He looks up at you, catching you staring at him. You quickly look back down at the fruit in front of you, trying to ignore the heat rising to your face.
You continue grabbing peaches, though you’re no longer looking over them before putting them in the bag. You’re only focused on getting out of the store and away from the source of your embarrassment as fast as possible.
You see the man move in your peripheral, making you slightly glance up at him once more. This time, he’s already looking at you.
He doesn’t look away, and neither do you.
Neither of you say a word, instead continuing to hold each other’s gazes.
He has beautiful blue eyes that find yourself getting lost in.
A voice coming over the intercom snaps you both back into reality.
Attention customers, the store will be closing in 10 minutes. Please make your way to the check-out area with your items. Thank you.
Despite the cold air surrounding you, you feel your face heating up again. Clearing your throat, you tear your eyes away, tie up your bag of peaches, and set it down into your basket.
You turn around and take a step towards the check out, but you hear a curse leave his lips.
“Shit!”
When you look back, you see the entire display of avocados tumbling onto the ground. The man's hands reach out to try and stop them, but to no avail. Every single one falls to the floor, scattering around you both.
He looks absolutely mortified—eyes wide and mouth agape. The tips of his ears turn bright red.
You’re unsure how to react. Both of you stand in shock as you take in the situation that has unfolded. His eyes meet yours once again, and he seems to be hoping that you somehow missed what just happened.
Then, you can’t help but cover your mouth to silence the laugh that escapes you. To your (and perhaps to his own) surprise, he starts laughing too.
“I cannot believe that just happened,” he shakes his head in disbelief.
He squats down and starts picking up the mess of avocados, holding as many in his arms as he can before putting them back into their display. You set your basket down and begin to help him.
“Oh—you don’t have to help me pick this up,” he gestures. “This is my mess, not yours.”
"You’ll be here forever if you do this by yourself. Besides, I'm sure the employees will appreciate not having to clean it up."
"Fair point," he responds.
You get down next to him and roll out the avocados that went under the surrounding displays while he wipes them off and puts them back into their bin. Soon, the two of you have picked them all up and you’re back on your feet.
"Thank you. Even though you really didn't have to help me at all,” he says earnestly.
"It's no problem, seriously," you assure. He takes a breath.
"I'm Dennis,” he says, sticking out his hand.
You gladly accept it and introduce yourself.
"It's nice to meet you, Dennis."
"It's nice to meet you too, even though I wish it had been under different circumstances.” You giggle.
Just then, another announcement rings out.
Attention customers, the store will be closing in five minutes. Please make your way to the check-out area with your items. Thank you.
"I guess we should head up to the front," Dennis says.
"Yeah,” you look around. “I'm pretty sure we're the only ones in here at this point.” You start to walk to the registers. Dennis follows suit behind you.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
After you check out, you stand facing each other outside the storefront. The sounds of the city nightlife surround you.
"Thank you again for your help,” Dennis says looking down. “I'm honestly still really embarrassed that that happened." He’s glad it’s dark outside so you can’t see blush that has taken over his face.
"Life would be boring without moments like that. Plus, now you have a story to remember me by." That earns an honest laugh from him.
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
God, I hope I’m not reading this situation wrong, you think.
Unbeknownst to you, he’s thinking the same thing.
You continue to stare at each other under the night sky, not wanting to walk away.
Fuck it. Just ask for his number.
“Do you—”
You get cut off by the sound of his phone ringing.
He pulls it out of his pocket and looks at the screen, releasing a deep sigh before answering.
You can hear a woman’s voice on the other end. She calls him something that sounds like… Huckleberry?
“Why are you taking so fucking long?” She snips.
“There was just a slight mishap,” he tells her, looking up at you and smiles half-heartedly. “I’ll be back soon.”
Your heart sinks.
He has a girlfriend. Of course he does. Why wouldn’t he?
The call ends and he looks at you apologetically.
“Sorry about that,” he says, sliding his phone back into his pocket. “What were you saying?”
“It was nothing. We should both probably get going. Sounds like you have somewhere to be.” You offer a smile but you can’t help the feeling of disappointment that pains your chest. He returns the smile.
“Have a good night. Get home safe."
“Thanks, Dennis. You too.”
With that, you both head your separate ways into the night.
Thank God she called when she did. I was about to make a complete fool of myself.
After some steps, you can’t help but stop and turn to look at him, hoping you’d see that he also turned around. You blame it on being a romantic.
To your dismay, you see Dennis’ figure getting smaller as he continues down the sidewalk. You sigh.
He’s just a guy I met at the store and talked to for a few minutes, you reason with yourself.
You force yourself to brush off the lingering sadness and continue walking home.
. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
Dennis walks towards his shared apartment with Trinity, mind racing.
He had gone to the store to pick up a few items for Trinity since she hadn’t been feeling well.
After their shift on the 4th of July, Dennis decided that he should start buying his own avocados instead of eating hers, a habit she voiced her annoyance of. They were the last thing he was grabbing before checking out.
He has never been the type to believe in love at first sight, but he can’t deny the fact that right now, his thoughts are completely consumed by you. He wants to spend the rest of the night getting to know you as you sit together under the stars.
Why did Trinity have to call?
Then it hits him. He knows what he has to do.
Fuck it. Just ask for her number.
When he works up the courage to turn around, his heart drops. You have disappeared into the night. He missed his chance.
Now, it’s his turn to be disappointed.
I hate the mischaracterisation of Dennis Whitaker.
Dennis Whitaker isn’t a fragile baby. That man is such a secret dom. Friendly and sweet to everyone else. Yet, to you he is authoritative and demanding. In a sense that he knows what he wants.
He’s so domestic and would also do anything for you. Cooking, cleaning, handywork. You don’t even have to lift a finger when he is around. When he isn’t, it painfully frustrates him that you have to ‘get your hands dirty’
He loves bringing you everywhere he is. You both have that kind of love where you are best friends too. Both of you are suckers for a routine. You listen to all his farm stories and watch multiple animal documentaries together. Multiple exchanged baby animal TikToks.
“Awe den look at this one!” You squeal
He looks and it’s a small kitten falling into milk crying. He smiles. You frown staring at the screen. You quickly look at him then back to the whining kitten. “Kind of looks like you! I’m sending this to Trin”
His coworkers adore you and always want you around for work parties and get togethers. You constantly hear new stories of Dennis on shift. You smile knowing you have the most perfect and caring boyfriend.
Dennis Whitaker is a munch. He loves going down on you. Kissing your stomach and trailing love bites up your inner thighs. His tongue focuses on your clit while he listens to how you react to each lick, suck and nibble he takes. Gently, he circles your clit with his thumb. Pushing his tongue into you and fucking you like that. He loves tasting you.
Often he picks you up and throws you around into any position he wants you in. Making sure to leave gentle kisses on your body and caress your curves. As he wraps his hand around your throat - “sweetheart, you are so pretty”
That midwestern charm brings you to your climax every-time. Dennis Whitaker, your strong dominant farm boy.
This needed to be said

Whitaker.”

Dennis Whitaker is the wife guy of all wife guys.
There’s a continuous bet going of how many times he’ll bring her up in one day. And of course his eyes always brighten when her name (or even just the words “my wife”) leave his lips.
He keeps a photo of her in his pocket, a polaroid of her smiling all big and pure. His heart stutters a bit every time he looks at it. When things get really tough, he’ll take a few minutes to himself, just in the bathroom or break room, staring at the picture. Better yet, he sometimes gets to call her. Even if she doesn’t pick up, just the sound of her voice in the voicemail makes everything seem a bit better.
When he starts getting a steady stream of income, she gets flowers weekly, no matter what. She mentioned her favorite flowers on the first date and he never forgot it.
He’s head over heels for you, and everyone has to know it.

Fate?
Now, it’s his turn to be disappointed.
covet (dennis whitaker x f! reader)
summary: and what if god gave you a second chance? (aka you reunite with dennis whitaker after losing him the first time) wc: 1.3k other: audiologist! reader, afab! reader, reader and dennis became close in undergrad and lose contact and now here they are wow, this is my first fic in over 10 years bear with me <3
Having trouble hearing out of his left ear wasn’t even one of his top three concerns rushing out of his and Trin’s apartment that morning. He slept through his alarm, the freezer door had been left slightly ajar overnight, and he had to Uber to work because he missed the bus— 40 stupid bucks gone from his stupid bank account.
“Huckleberry!” He was walking away from the patient board, ready to see his next patient when Trinity grabs him by the shoulder.
“I’ve been trying to get your attention– are you okay?”
The concern touches him. But he really doesn't want to acknowledge his shitty morning any further, so he quickly apologizes and lies, saying he hasn’t had enough caffeine yet. It isn’t until he misses Dr. Al-Hashimi calling his name that he has to face the consequences of his choices.
“I want you to go to ENT and Audiology for follow-up, too, Dr. Whitaker,” Dr. Al-Hashimi says firmly. “I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that sudden hearing loss is an emergency– it’ll be quick. I already paged them, and they’re willing to see you now.”
Before he can protest, Dr. Al-Hashimi is already walking away. It’s not like they have any time to spare down here. But they’re already expecting him, so Dennis figures this will just be another thing to add to his shitty day.
But what he could not anticipate is you, standing right in front of him. Your features are different, less baby-faced, and your hair is longer, but it’s you.
“Dennis?” Your eyes widen at the sight of him. Suddenly, he’s twenty-one and looking at you like it’s the last time he’ll ever get to. You were undeniably beautiful back then. And now, you were just as distressingly beautiful, maybe even more so. Your badge displays your first and last name with Audiologist below it. His eyes jump to your left hand holding his patient folder, ring-less.
A knot in his heart unravels.
He says your name, a little breathless.
Without warning, you hug him, the squeal of delight you make turns his cheeks pink, his shitty morning long forgotten. He wraps his arms around you, holding you, and when you pull back to look at him, eyes shimmering in delight and disbelief, the desire he tucked away years ago rises up into his throat.
He wants to tell you that he did it– he went to medical school and became a doctor. But you seem to be taking him in already– his scrubs, his ID badge. And the awe on your face makes all of it worth it all over again. There’s a million other things he wants to tell you, ask you.
Did you really not marry him?
How’s your grandfather?
How did you end up here?
Are you happy?
But the reality of the situation hits you, and being the professional you are, you straighten up and tell him to follow you into the testing booth. He’s immensely grateful to see your toothy smile. Your last semester of undergrad, when you decided you were going to go through with returning to your hometown and marrying your then-fiancé, he couldn’t help but notice how your smile stopped meeting your eyes.
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
“It’s what they want me to do, Den. I’m their only daughter. I can’t let them down like this,” You had confessed quietly, but stubbornly. Your eyes were glassy, and Dennis could tell you hadn’t been able to sleep.
You had met him in your last year of college. There were not many people enrolled in The Scripture As Literature English course. Including you and Dennis, it had been 7 people total. You learned that he was majoring in Theology to potentially become a pastor back home. Home was Broken Bow, Nebraska. Based on the way he described it, it reminded you of your own hometown, minus the farming: a small, conservative community that raised you with its calloused hands.
Your parents had set you up with a boy from another well-respected family, with the promise that they would support you and your schooling if you married him after graduation. He was nice enough, you gathered. You had gone on a handful of chaperoned dates with him, embarrassingly eager to fall in love. But once you realized that wasn’t going to happen, you had resigned yourself to your fateful duty. You could learn to love someone, right?
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
“I woke up today, and everything just sounded muffled on my left side,” Dennis explains, sitting down in the chair. You try to ignore how handsome he is looking up at you like that with his wide blue eyes. And was that… a mullet?
“Any other symptoms? Like ringing or buzzing, dizziness or vertigo?” You ask instead, looking back at him attentively while you jot his answers down. Meanwhile, he's trying to not be distracted by how cute you look in your pink scrubs.
“I know y’all must be busy down in the ER, so I’ll make this quick, Dr. Whitaker.” You grin as you instruct him and set him up for the hearing test. “Press the button every time you hear the beep and repeat after me when I ask you to, okay?”
He watches you from the little window in the booth, noticing the confidence that radiates off of you when you're in your element. He likes hearing your calm and lovely voice through the headphones.
It goes by in a blip, and in the end, you identify some mild to moderate high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss in the left ear and adequate eardrum movement in both ears.
“I’m going to write everything in your report. Dr. Green is going to see you right now– it won’t take very long. I know they prescribed you Prednisone down in the ER, definitely finish that. But they might want to do the intratympanic steroid shots if there’s no improvement.”
You’re walking him back to another room, and the moment is ending too soon. Before he can ask you for your number, or whatever, to make sure he can see you after today, you stop a little short before reaching the doorway.
“I’m really glad to see you today,” you say, shyer now. It reminds him of when you first met, when you held yourself back in fear of saying too much. But Dennis had been too easy to talk to, kind and genuine in a way you weren’t used to. Fittingly enough, it had made you think he’d be a great pastor.
And now, here he is in front of you, an Emergency Medicine doctor. The pride that's been blooming in your chest wants to burst. But from your own experience, you have an inkling of what that must have meant for him–having to choose the hard thing, over and over again.
In that moment, you make a decision. You’re not going to lose him a second time.
“Can we swap numbers? I’d love to see you again.” You’re tugging your phone out of your pants pocket, letting yourself hope. Back then, you had been in no position to think of Dennis as anything other than your friend. At the very most, he was someone who made you think that God could be real.
It’s the easiest yes he’s given in a long time. You walk away, skin electric where your hand brushed up against his when he put the phone back into your hands, with Dennis Whitaker :) saved as your newest contact.
You don’t have any time to wonder what you’ll text him as you get whisked away to do a VNG. What you don’t know yet is that he’s not going to let himself lose you either.
Imagine sweet, Dennis Whitaker taking care of you when you have a migraine.
He comes home from a shift, keys settling on their place on the counter and confused why you aren’t there to greet him like usual.
He walks into the master bathroom and finds you curled up on the cool floor, in the dark with a folded towel as a pillow.
“Oh honey,” he says immediately crouching down beside you. “migraine?” he asks while moving your hair out of your face. “mmh” you mumble leaning into his touch. “my head hurts so bad Denny” he strokes you hair for a few seconds before turning the water on. “let me run you a bath baby.”
He kisses your forehead before walking out of the room leaving you with the pounding in your skull and the sound of the running water.
He comes back a few seconds later with a cup of water and some zofran and excedrin already popped out of the foil. “here honey, take these for me.” Once you do, he helps you get undressed and into the water. Sighing immediately at the warmth on your skin.
To your surprise Dennis also gets into the bath, settling behind you, one arm wrapping around your waist. “Figure you could lean against me instead of the cold wall” so you lean back, head resting on his shoulder. Dennis softly hums while playing with your hair. “no lights, no talking. just relax baby.”
When the water finally starts to chill. Dennis gets out first. He puts on some clean pajama bottoms and comes back with a pair of your pjs and a towel fresh from the dryer.
He helps you get dressed before carrying you to the bed. Where you see a cold can of doctor pepper and your frozen eye mask sitting on the beside table.
You look at him sleepily, “you’re ridiculous.” Dennis grins, climbing into bed beside you. “yeah, it’s because I love you.”
then he pulls you into his chest and rubs slow circles against your back until you fall asleep.
i’m sorry, i couldn’t stop thinking about how sweet he would be and needed to put pen to paper or ig fingers to iphone keyboard haha
if you see spelling errors or anything shhhh I wasn’t trying to write a beautifully written fic. This was mostly to please my migraine having ass and wanted to share it with you guys :)
9/10 times you can find me laying in a dark bathroom when i have a migraine at home
My hungry ass could NOT work in the Pitt I’d get passed around faster than a hot potato during field day

Pairing: Dennis Whitaker x F!Reader
Summary: After going out to the bar with your coworkers, you find it hard to keep your hands off your boyfriend.
Contains: Alcohol use, smut (18+ mdni), piv, unprotected sex, oral (m and f receiving), (light) choking, swearing, switch Dennis and reader
Word Count: ~1.4k
A/N: This is the first story I’ve written in a long ass time, and ngl it’s the first time I’ve written smut. I love Dennis Whitaker and definitely want to write more for him, so lmk what you think!
God, Dennis is so handsome.
Every time you look at him you imagine all the ways you want to fuck him. Normally you can wait until you get home, but the alcohol in your system is making it hard for you to control your actions.
You began to tease him slightly as you were sat in a booth with some of your coworkers. Your hand rests on his thigh and rubs gentle circles as you listen intently to the story Trinity is telling about some girl she used to fuck in college.
You can feel him look over at you. You raise your eyebrows and feign innocence.
“What’s wrong, honey,” you ask.
“Nothing, I just need to go to the bathroom,” he says starting to stand up, hoping you’ll get his not-so-subtle hint. You wait a couple minutes before excusing yourself from the table and follow his steps.
You find Dennis waiting for you near the bathroom door. As soon as you’re close enough, you grab his hand and pull him in, locking the door behind you.
He presses you up against the sink, enveloping you in a deep kiss. Your hands are pressed to his chest, but you begin moving them down, palming him through his pants. Dennis groans into your mouth. You both pull back for air.
“Let’s go home, yeah?”
—————
The two of you stumble into your shared apartment and make your way to the bedroom, lips locked and shedding your clothes before the door is even completely shut.
You straddle Dennis’ waist, lightly pushing him back against the pillow as you kiss him. Your lips move against each others and your hips begin grinding onto his, making you both groan at the feeling. His hands find their way to your chest and he reaches under your shirt to pinch your nipples, rolling them between his thumbs and index fingers. You let out a soft whine and tug on his hair. His tongue finds its way into your mouth as you continue grinding with added pressure. You can both feel the wetness that has soaked through your underwear.
You break apart for air. His hands grip your hips as you pull your shirt off.
“Baby, you’re driving me crazy here,” Dennis says, taking in the sight of you.
“That’s exactly what I want,” you whisper gently before nibbling on his ear and kissing your way down his neck, stopping to suck the skin just above his collarbone. His grip on your hips tightens as his breath hitches. Your lips continue down his chest and stop just below his navel. You look up at him for a second, looking for any sign of him wanting you to stop, but you find none.
You kiss him through his boxers a few times before you hook your fingers into the waistband of his underwear and slowly pull them down, allowing his hard leaking cock to spring out. He gasps at the sensation of the bedroom air hitting him.
“You’re so handsome, Den,” you purr before taking him into your hand and kissing up his length. His hands rest on top of your head, tugging lightly on your hair as you take him into your mouth.
“God, baby, feels amazing,” Dennis moans. You take him as far into your mouth as he can go, wrapping a hand around the rest. Your hand follows your mouth up and down, his moans and whimpers egg you on until you need air. You come up with a pop, swirling your palm around his tip. The look on Dennis’ face is one of pure bliss.
“I’m getting close baby. I wanna be inside you, please,” he begs, hands holding the sides of your face. His eyes are pleading.
How could you ever say no to that face?
You sit up on your knees before motioning to your underwear. He practically rips them off of you, immediately slipping his fingers into your folds to feel your wetness. His thumb rubs circles on your clit, sending your head back in ecstasy.
You grab his cock and give it a few pumps before lining it up at your entrance and slowly slide down. The two of you groan in satisfaction at the feeling of each other.
“You feel so perfect inside me, Den. I think we were made to fuck each other,” you say, reveling in the feeling of your boyfriend filling you up.
“So beautiful. I love you so much,” he pulls you down for a kiss. With your lips moving against each others in sync, you start to move your hips.
The room soon fills with the sound of yours and Dennis’ moans and the headboard hitting against the wall. For a split second you consider the fact that your neighbors can definitely hear the two of you, but the thought is quickly lost as you bounce and grind yourself into your boyfriend. One of his hands wanders your body as the other is occupied with rubbing your clit.
Dennis begins thrusting himself upwards every time you come down, hitting your g-spot. You can feel the tingles in your lower half slowly starting to build.
“Choke me,” Dennis pleads looking into your eyes. Your hands move up from his chest to his neck, wrapping around his throat and squeezing hard enough to block air. You release your grip before too long. His eyes roll back into his head as you continue the motions of choking him and riding his cock.
“I’m getting close,” he moans once you let go of his throat. That’s all you need to hear to begin riding with an increased vigor. The sounds of his whimpers and “I love you’s” fill the room.
You can tell he is trying to hold out, but you don’t want him to. You want to feel him fill you up with his cum.
“Cum inside me, Denny. I need to feel how much you love me.” That’s all it takes for him to come undone. His eyes twist shut and his hands grip your hips and push you down onto his cock while he thrusts up, filling you with his seed. You continue moving your hips slightly, milking him through his orgasm.
Once he catches his breath, he flips you over so he’s leaning over your frame.
“My turn,” he smiles before locking your lips together. He kisses down your body, sucking on your neck and nipples in the process. You relish in the feeling.
Dennis makes his way down to your core, spreading your folds apart and admiring his release seeping out of you. He takes a finger and wipes up some of his slick, bringing it up to your mouth.
“You look so pretty like this, baby, all filled up with my cum.” You suck his finger and whine, begging him for more. He props your legs up over his shoulders before licking up your heat with the flat of his tongue.
Dennis licks and sucks at you like his life depends on it, which he would argue that it does. From the moment the two of you had met, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life doing whatever it takes to make you happy.
He slips two fingers into your heat and curls them rapidly, not stopping his tongue movements on your clit. Your legs begin to shake.
“Fuck, Dennis,” you moan, fingers wrapped up in his hair. “I’m gonna cum.” Your back arches off the bed as you reach your climax. He takes his fingers out of you and puts them inside his mouth, sucking the mixture of your fluids off of them before plopping down on the bed next to you.
The two of you lay with each other as you catch your breath. His hand reaches out and finds yours and he plants a kiss to the back of it.
“I love you,” he tells you.
“I love you, Den,” you reply. “I’m glad we went out tonight.”
“Me too,” he hums.
With the alcohol still flowing through the both of your systems, you drift off to sleep to the sounds of the city outside your apartment.
