The New York Times published a piece today pointing to Carly Fiorina as the possible solution to the GOP’s woman problem. Jeremy Peters writes: “With a debate performance that was steely and at times deeply personal, Carly Fiorina appears to have improved her standing in the race to be the Republican nominee…she took a big stride toward filling a role her party badly needs: a credible antidote to the gender gap and the Democrats’ claims of a Republican ‘war on women.’”
There is so much wrong with that sentence. First, it implies that the reason women aren’t voting for Republicans is that they don’t have enough female candidates. “Winning the female vote is challenging for any Republican,” Peters writes, “Women have traditionally identified strongly with the Democratic Party, while male voters are split between the two parties.”
Ignore the hype: Despite her gender, the GOP’s newest flavor of the month is drastically out of step with women voters
Yes, the problem women have with the republicans is not enough woman to vote for, not the war on women's health they are waging to defund planned parenthood. Even though none of the money they are funded is used for abortions, or the fact that men and children are also treated at the clinics.

Just as European sex ed programs are looking to urge more births to combat falling fertility rates, the U.S. might be seeing similar trends in its own birth rate. Not just yet, though. But, according to new numbers from the Census Bureau, more American women of childbearing age are actually childless. Almost half of women between the ages of 15 and 44 didn’t have kids in 2014, with an increase from 46.5 percent in 2012 to 47.6 percent last year.
Census Bureau finds the highest percentage of childless women of reproductive age since the 1970s
Well that’s what you fucking GET
You killed the economy Your police keep killing black people Your colleges over charge per credit hour Your students have crippling debt The minimum wage is not a liveable wage Gentrification has destroyed black neighborhoods and small businesses Rent is too high Day care costs more than rent Food stamps get cut year after year Health insurance is expensive Doctor bills are expensive You had turned men into celebrated misogynists that don’t want to wear condoms or pay for child support or fund abortions
No we don’t want to children in a world that has no problem watching us die and blaming us for it.
FUCKING THIS.
Birthrates tend to fall in countries that have achieved emancipation for women but do not continue to support women afterwards. Basically, you’re told “you can have a career or you can have kids, not both” and so a lot of women go “fuck it”. Also, consider that if women are *choosing* not to have kids, it’s for a reason. All of the reasons stated above are absolutely correct.
If you want people to have kids, make it seem like a joy and not a burden. Make the world the kind of place you want to bring children into instead of protecting them from it by not even having them. Make sure every child that is born is supported. When parents can live without fearing for their children, there will be more of them.
There’s also the issue of women no longer feel it’s necessary to have a family, and more and more are choosing not to because they don’t feel obligated to have one.
Reblogging for the interesting discussion.
Yep.
The U.S. plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions 26 to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025, an “ambitious and achievable” target officially reported Tuesday to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This is the goal first announced back in November, as part of a historic deal with China: the U.S. pledged the 26 to 28 percent cut, while China committed to reaching peak emissions by 2030 the latest, and to having renewables make up 20 percent of its energy mix by that time. The deal was celebrated as a symbol to the rest of the world that the U.S. is committed to fighting climate change — and a signal to detractors in this country who claimed that China would never get on board.
But is it enough?
I'd like to respond with, it's not enough. Greenpeace which has shown accurate research and statistics, said we could manage 40%. It has gotten bad, and this is not enough.

So. Pop cat cafe. Ohh let's go! Pictured: line to make reservations... For like 20 min 2 hours from time in line.... Conclusion: I've been to book stores that have cats, my friends have cats, this is not the San Diego zoo. I saw a kitty on the street the other day, no waiting. Needless to say, I didn't actually wait and go.
