ok enough
this is more a general statement than about that post but every time we talk abt such things someone tries to start the gaslight train and say "we have REAL issues to worry about people are being KILLED we dont have time for intracommunity issues" to us and i think its always so funny bc rarely does a lesbian even start w this bullshit anyway its like almost always some wackjob saying actually being a lesbian is just like being bisexual and not being into men isnt that important to lesbianism and we are all dykes if we think about it hard enough. like gee man why dont u tell those ppl to knock it off instead
i think womens experiences of being socially economically and politically pressured into participating in heterosexuality and the ways that being with a man is drilled into our minds as a universal imperative that will incur harsh social verbal and physical punishments if not met is a lot different than the experience of being asexual actually. I think its quite fucking different
like the reason that "you dont have to date a man" is faced with such opposition is in no small part because womanhood and femininity under patriarchy only matter or are only useful when they can be used to uphold patriarchal structures. Simply put our lives and our bodies do not matter unless they are utilized by men to maintain power. And I just think having to navigate dating culture or what have you as an asexual or aromantic person is simply - and I say this in the kindest way possible - not the same damn thing
apparently this has to be said but being a lesbian is also different to the experience of being bisexual on account of the "being bisexual" part that tends to come with being bisexual. Are you people kidding meeeee
completely mind numbingly ignorant to say that the lack of attraction to men doesnt set aside the lesbian experience in any way. fucking brain melting levels of ghoulish to say that w a straight face
This gotta be the stupidest post ive ever seen. “Happy pride month guys lesbophobia isnt real”
i cant believe im going to be 24 years old begging [redacted for security purposes] university to let me in kill urselvesss
THINK before you POST! are you a lesbian? if not, you probably shouldnt post. did a lesbian help you cowrite the post? if not, you might want to keep it to yourself. is the post about lesbians? if not, i dont think anyone really cares so maybe you shouldnt post it after all
At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields
At the risk of sounding like an effete intellectual, I do actually think you should be allowed to just take college courses indefinitely
technically you can, if you don't care about degrees.
Free Harvard courses. Free Courses from Stanford. Free Courses from MIT. Free courses from Yale. Free courses from Princeton.
Free courses on Coursera.
Free Courses on EDx Free Courses on Alison
For paid, there's The Great Courses+/Wonderium. 20$ a month for unlimited courses.
When searching, the phrases you're looking for are Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or you can do a general search of say, "free online college courses." Oh, and so you don't get surprised like I did, have an avoid: Hillsdale College is a conservative Christian site and not a valid MOOC place. Sign up with them and you will get things like THIS IS WHY THE LEFT IS TURNING YOUR KIDS TRANS AND GAY in your inbox.
@yourunderwaterskies I wanted to say thank you so much for adding these links, seriously, they've been life-changingly helpful to me-

excuse me thinking too much into things once more but while i think probably a vast majority of "if these books dont get you into reading nothing will" videos have little to no ill intent there is rlly no such list u can ever assemble that will achieve the purpose u claim it will bc contrary to ur belief theres no objective way to say if a book will be enjoyed or not ive had ppl recommend me books i rlly lowkey straight up kind of hated yet when i was marketed them the ppl trying to sell them to me were convinced theyd make me fall in love. and i think ultimately a lot of these videos end up feeding into the general idea that there is a right way to read books when that is so far from the case and we end up pushing a lot of ppl away from useful and helpful reading communities even when our intentions are the exact opposite bc when u tell ppl that this is the book that will get u obsessed w literature and that person maybe possibly ends up not liking it all that much and esp if this is a person who doesnt read often to begin w id imagine theyd get quite discouraged dont you agree like im always thinking abt this one anon on here who seemed sincerely harrowed that they could not derive the level of enjoyment from kafkas metamorphosis as everyone believed they should and i just wanted so badly to tell them its ok to say this is not my thing n move on but it becomes very hard for anyone to internalize that when errrrr to be blunt when ppl keep peddling the idea of a book that must be enjoyed and if u didnt enjoy it u must have missed smth fundamental abt it and that means ur either not reading it correctly whatever that even means or ur just unsuited for literary engagement in the first place so maybe u shouldnt read at all haha youre just kind of stupid arent u? enoughhh man but again i am thinking too much into things i do spend an inordinate amount of my time daily on trying to imagine a way out of this dark spiral reading culture has become its just not very great is it
some posters on the classics department floor! gorgeous gorgeous
Mary Zimmerman, The Odyssey
Now watch this.
also whenever someone makes the argument that classics are classics bc theyre just good w somehow no political considerations having contributed to the award of such status i think abt all the writings that have been purposefully destroyed and all the voices that have been silenced and suppressed throughout history like to an extent yes these texts have survived some of them very old to our time bc they were well liked and they were good stories to tell but to assume and imply that the opposite is also true - that that which has not survived was not liked and was not good - is disingenuous when the control of cultural production and the policing of who is allowed to create things and whose creations can circulate is a very pertinent problem
can u imagine if someone asked me what video games i like and i said smth like "the award winning ones" thats what it sounds like
also these points on “classics” as a category and status i found interesting
