Songwriting narrative
Oh songwriting I do not know how to conquer you, you are a story put to rhythm and I am equipped with neither
Oh misery you've come at a perfect time except I took you too literally misery need not always be dark
Oh the suggestions until the one good one came along
Oh humor the anecdote to the gray constantly swirling round and round again like a Hydra every time I cut off your head two more grow back
Oh Duchess you provided a sweet low key sound that was just what I needed, your blue like a storm ridden ocean
Oh glorious day when I defeated the monster of writers block and created a humorous parody that my generation would understand
Oh the nerves that I didn't expect that came on the performance day
Oh how embarrassing when I giggled during my song but I can't help myself I'm hilarious but no one gets my sense of humor
Oh how smoothly the group song went hurray for dark humor How sad I am now that it's over, it happened so fast and gone too soon
Songwriting Informative
I was not there the first day of songwriting but after dance ended the class Skyped our mentor, Erin, I have no idea what was talked about. After break she was there instruments and all to talk to us about different ways to write a song, song structure, ect. I had no idea what to write about to me songwriting is like storytelling and I’m not good at either so I had to wing it. I spent 3 days struggling trying to write a song to perform in front of the class until Wygal told me to write about what I hate, so I did. I picked up Duchess, a sweet baby colored turquoise, the kind when a storm occurs on the ocean and the water turns dark turquoise. Duchess had the right sound, a soft low key sound, I wrote a list of mostly phrases that annoy me with her, and thus a song was born. We also had to do a group song, so Emy and I took the idea behind my song and wrote about things we mutually hate, mostly within the school, with Duchess of course. The days after were a whirlwind, just speeding by. The day before the performance we were ready to go, the songs written, I spent that day practicing, bubbling with excitement. The next day, performance day Sarnacki was ready with his camera to record us again and started calling out names, before I knew it, it was my turn. I got Duchess ready and sat in front of the microphone, and voila performance. The performance went semi-well, I did start laughing in the middle of my song because people in the front row of desks were laughing but other than that I was successful and our group song was a hit among fellow students. The day after I performed songwriting had ended, a sad day for all of us since we really liked it. But all good things come to an end, onto the next project for us.
Dance Narrative
It all started with the pool lobby I was looking fly in my business-chic wear ready to turn into professional dancer and back again. It started with a circle telling our names to the woman who would become the biggest snob I ever met (and I went to private school) and her sidekick who happened to look like Frozone from the Incredibles. It started with the term “Modern Dance” some bored hippies decided to dance barefoot and create some weird ass dances, instead of being prim and proper. It started with some basic exercises nothing too fancy, it’s the first day after all. It started with moving to words, slowly now, don’t go to fast. It started getting longer and longer time is dragging by and I’m getting bored of all these long dances to poetry. It started with a final assignment, finally, almost done now. It started with a bad cold 3 days of no practice but back in time for the final performance. It started with 1, 2, 3 go feeling like shit but knocking out that dance. It ended with some applause, not much, I understand I’m not as well liked, or as talented as some, but that’s ok I’m just glad its over.
Dance Informative
Our introduction to Modern Dance began on a chilly December morning. My peers buzzed with excitement and a little anxiety while our instructors got ready. Five minutes after the bell rang we were asked to come sit in a circle. Our instructors introduced themselves as Claire and Andre from a specific dance company that the school is fond of, and asked us to introduce ourselves; they wanted to learn everyone's names apparently. After that we were given some history on Modern Dance, it was a rebellion against the prim and proper that had always existed and was always praised. Then our class did with some basic stretches to start since it was the first day. The circle, names, and stretches routine continued for the next couple session until we started learning some individual movements. We made up short dances to these movements and techniques they taught us then we started writing poems based off of e.e Cummings and Allen Ginsburg to dance too and a poem based off of a dance that Sarnacki and Wygal did. Then the final assignment came, one individual dance and one group dance to be presented in front of all 40 FA Seminar students. We practiced and practiced and a week later presentation day came. Sarnacki had the camera ready and all of us were there. One by one we all went successfully, even though a emergency came up so I could not see them all. Then two by two or four by four every group had time to go. Then the bell rang and our dance workshop was over.

To All My Dears (pt 4)
And last but certainly the furthest from least...
Dear Emy,
For awhile I wasn't sure what to say, but now I do. I love you, with your perfections and flaws alike. i love you unconditionally, no strings attached because I know no other way to love. I want you to know that you WILL be ok, and that you should take pride in all that you have suffered through, it makes you stronger than anyone else. I'll admit it pains me to shove yourself in this box of perfection that you think you must be. I hope you realize that girl in the box is merely a piece of you, she is not all of you. I hope you see that you still have a family of people who love you and want to help you reach your goals, no matter how small or dysfunctional we are we're all still here for you. i know I sound arrogant when I say "trust me, I know." But I do, I've just never told you because making sure you were ok was always the first priority. I grew up in a turbulent home, where I knew what HATE meant before I ever knew about LOVE. Things I saw and heard growing up still to this day have a huge psychological impact on me. I want you to know that I cried myself to sleep EVERY night, because I wasn't brave like you Emy. I was and am still too afraid to show that kind of emotion, to wear my heart on my sleeve. It has taken me a long time to be ok, and I'm sure that I still have a ways to go. But we will make it through Emy, together.
Love,
sarah
I love finding messages in old books
Oh you bright blasted stars look how brightly you shine
Underneath the salt knot that never seems to end in its
Complication and challenges that is my life.
Even though you've sunk in an ocean so deep
You don't stop emitting the white lights that surround you
Oh you bright blasted stars tell me your secrets.
Share with me your strength so that my light won't ever stop
Shining
