And they can’t touch me when I’m with you.
hey @taylorswift
I thought I would write you a little message to introduce myself. My name is Emily, but my friends call me Ems, so you should, too. I am 18 and I live in St. Louis. Although I’m new to tumblr, I’m not new to you. Your music has been a part of my life for ten years. I remember being eight and listening to all of the local country stations hoping and praying they would play ‘Our Song’ and when they did, I would turn up the radio in my mom’s red 1989 (coincidence?) Toyota pick up truck and sing along as loudly as I could. Fearless was the album I took with me my last year of middle school and my first year of high school. ‘Fifteen’ got me through the rough transition period, and ‘You’re Not Sorry’ helped me mend my first broken heart. Some of my best memories were made listening to your music, whether it was with my friends or my family. Now, I am finishing my senior year of high school and I can’t wait to bring 1989 and your new music with me to college.
Thank you for making music that has changed not only my life, but the life of so many others. For ten years, I have wanted to thank you, and I’m finally taking the time to do so. You’ve become not only someone I look up to, but someone I consider my best friend. I hope soon to meet you, give you a hug, and remind you in person of all the wonderful things you’ve done for me. This is the beginning of a new chapter for me, and I can’t wait to take you with me, like I’ve done for the past ten years.
With love,
your friend Ems

“I don’t want to write a song that’s so obviously trying to achieve a sort of girl-power goal, or a 'believe in yourself’ goal. I tend to write about the kind of nuisances of life.”
