Nurse Enforced Continence

When I'm Catheterized by my continence nurse:

There’s no need to relax my external urethral sphincter — the catheter bypasses it and forces urine to flow into the bag completely without any control possible.

Even low-grade detrusor contractions or bladder filling pressure is sufficient to push urine through the catheter tubing, especially with a low-resistance one-way valve like in the belly bag.

Tip-if you are considering a Belly Bag, be sure to rotate the Belly Bag quick release belt button to be easily accessible so it will not release accidentally as shown in this photo.
