A snippet from a WIP for the Of love, loss and new beginnings series. Finally working on this series again! I shared a bit of this before, but I've adjusted it since then, so enjoy!

“Do you find Hashirama attractive?”
Madara almost cut himself with the kunai he was sharpening. “I–what?”
He and Tobirama had just finished what was supposed to have been a light spar but had gotten just a bit out of hand and had lasted well through the morning. Now, they were settled on a long bench in the shade of the armoury adjacent to the training grounds, doing some routine maintenance on their weapons.Â
The midday sun bore down on the training grounds; the heat of it only mildly tempered by the occasional stir of wind. Madara’s thoughts had been drifting aimlessly as he enjoyed the tranquillity of the moment; his hands moving on autopilot, tending to his kunai set with practised precision, until Tobirama’s sudden inquiry had snapped his attention back to the present.
Tobirama didn’t even look up from the sword in his hands at Madara’s stunned reply. The gleam of the sleek blade caught the light as he continued cleaning it with smooth, steady motions; the sound of the cloth against metal almost rhythmic. His voice was calm, almost clinical, as he spoke again. “Have you ever felt any physical attraction to him?”
Madara’s jaw hit the floor, with his kunai only a fraction of a second behind it; the clatter of the weapon striking the ground shattering the still atmosphere in much the same way Tobirama’s unexpected question had shattered Madara’s composure. He sputtered incoherently for a moment before he managed to get his brain and mouth to coordinate to form a retort.Â
“Tobirama, what- why would you–”
“Just answer the question, Madara,” Tobirama insisted, cutting him off without so much as glancing in his direction. Then, pausing briefly in his task, he tilted his head and added in a gentler tone, almost as an afterthought, “I won’t be upset if you say yes.”
