Bonds

last week 

Bonds was the second game we created using the 3-6-5 method which purposes a concept of shared teamwork through drawing and sketching by connecting you digitally with people around the world. As for the 3-6-5 method we enjoyed the team working factors that helped produce different ideations however we though that by keeping it anonymous and not knowing what others are doing helps. By creating that atmosphere users are able to concentrate on their own part without worrying about pressure from the next  teammate that is passed on. As for the game genre I would describe it as calming and artistic because that was the mission we were going for along wit the idea of connecting people who are feeling lonely and out f touch with their emotions due to the pandemic. For the future of our project me and my teammate has discussed our excitement and want to push forward and create this a reality with making the website concept into an actual thing. We also proposed an idea of having an installation to quick start our game and gain feedback from different people; this will hold their different drawings and sketches either digitally or psychically. This would also encourage our second aspect our game which is it to have this huge mural that will live on with everyone's part making them proud of their effort and achievements.

Amsterdam skyscraper

week 8

The Amsterdam skyscraper method executes a plan where it forces the user to go through different phases from strategy to idea to execution while working in groups. I think the communication is crucial for this methods as each person partaking in this has their own independent role that needs to be fulfilled in order for the next person to move on and start  there. This gives a user a sense of responsibilities as to which they should be able to complete their task before it moves on. Furthermore it also allows each user the choice to pick their own role whether is it managing or ideating or making the psychical model. I think that if we were to translate it into a game it would help build team work and trust between groups of people whether its through work or student circles.  Especially if it was made kid friendly it would show them throw a playful way how their collaboration and planning they can create something they are proud of; as well as presenting to them a glimpse of their future lives because most of us won’t be working independently.

Time Out Dialogue

week 7 

As for the Time Out Dialogue, it really goes in depth with the ideas of how you can have a discussion with people while including everyone and controlling that the conversation stays respectful and intuitive. This method is a new way that I feel like should be included in every space because of the way it expands and encourages healthy discussions. Even if the topic was challenging and had strong different viewpoints the Time Out Dialogue provides solutions and how you should react when proposed with certain situation. This reminded me of our previous Karen game with the idea of showing reactions to each event and the solution for it however I wish we used the same technique. I think that if we did that it could prove to be more beneficial for those who are acting like “Karens” in our game.

Scanning Cards

week 6

For this week we looked at creating a scenario based on different cards that come from all over the word that propose solutions and designs to certain issues such as combating child poverty or making European cities sustainable. Through the card scanning method it helped us skim and analyse the proposals that were there while also encouraging our personal thoughts on the effect of each one. A card that resonated with me the most was the Kodomo Shokudo which talked about how Japan is dealing with the children living in poverty through these “children’s cafes”. This provides children with free (very affordable) and warm food cooked by locals or companies nearby to which I responded with how communities will go stronger through this connection with food. Therefore creating a supportive system and environment provided by the neighbourhood and locals. I think that this method was one of the key subjects that resonated me the most because of how much we achieved through scanning the cards and grouping them; and even if it progressed to a single player game it would work because it provides an easier way to group ideas. As well as the fact that everyone had opportunities to discuss their thoughts and progress with the scenario template. This is a crucial factor that works for any team work or multiplayer game.

Service blueprint

week 5

For this week we focused on service blueprint and the idea of human-centered design, for my group we chose the service of the massage provided by a spa. We started imaging how we as customers would go through the process of picking and attending the appointment; from there we elaborated on thinking of the service provider’s point of view which really exposed us to the amount of work and the things that people do behind the scenes that we are not aware of. This made us feel very grateful for the previous positive experiences we’ve had and made us realize that we would also want other people to feel the same way whenever we have to provide services in the future. This method helped us identify the benefits of certain services such as allowing easy access to online booking which is great for people who find it easier to visualize timings and slots as well as for people who find it hard to talk on the phone. When exploring how this can be transformed as a game we discussed we could create something that would help identify what kind of customer you are through the service provider’s point of view. Furthermore this game would also leave you positive feedback on how to improve as a customer and why these things matter when we are talking in the context of providing a positive environment for everyone involved

6-3-5 and Golden circle

week 4

For this week we worked on two different methods for ideation and focusing on why organization exists and for our example we focused on our university. As for the 6-3-5 it was a bit difficult to do online especially when it was only the two of us in the group however I know that i’ve tried this method with more people physically and I have found that it worked best as it allowed for many ideas to be generated through every person. On the other hand I think it still worked on our part as we were able to successfully ideate and identify factors that we wish we could do in the future once we get back on campus. I would say this was quite structured and visually easy to organize and process and in my opinion this method already seems like a game to me where you could easily switch out the context and through this passing process you are able to ideate and bring out more suggestions then other methods.  As for the golden circle method it was quite intereguring to work from the why to the what as the last as usually we would do it in the opposite way. This allowed us to investigate and explore why our organization of choice exists and for us we talked about how DIDI helps us grow our innovative self and inspire us by allowing us to explore our ideas in a place of freedom by existing as a university. It was a real enlightening  process for us to evaluate the core of why things exist and in what way does that back up what they represent.

Business Model Canvas from design's point of view

week 3

For this week we focused on The business model canvas from a design’s point of view and as a method we have previously had experience with with this however this time we had full control over the root of our design which our group enjoyed as we had many things to explore. Our idea focused on hospital patients and with everything going on we wished to have a programme that would make life easier for them and provide the best experience, this would also have live updates on your situation with easy access to your next appointment/destination/prescription. Even though it was hard for us to complete the canvas especially when it came to revenue streams and channels this idea really made us as passionate as we could resonate with how patients are feeling during these times. It made us really feel like we can achieve our idea when thinking of the value proposition when it comes to how people would feel when having this program. Overall I left this class feeling very optimistic because I felt like personally this method really helped make me more confident in our ideas as a person in general and how sometimes we should just go for our ideas.

Game design, serious games, and game development processes

week 2

For this week we had a guest lecture who really helped open up my idea of games as I always assumed that games were just for entertainment, not that there's anything wrong with that but I never believed they could serve another purpose. We were introduced to the idea of applied games and how they can solve problems for the user or client. I believe that this lecture was quite beneficial for our understanding of games and how we can potentially design our own games which is also part of our project for this semester; Furthermore I quite enjoyed the fact that he had mentioned that in definition success for apple games it was more on the impact it had on its target audience and validation coming from them rather than just the idea of revenue. After this lecture it really made me consider the fact that we should be incorporating more games in our learning/teaching environment and allow it to serve as a different way of education.

Getting familiar with games

week 1

For the first class we began to familiarize ourselves with the idea of ‘games’ and what they mean to different people, it was quite surprising yet intriguing  to hear all the different responses that people were discussing as for me I’ve only ever played games on my switch such as animal crossing. I was glad to know that we were re purposing design methods as games to make them better because it gave me the confidence that we can explore a plethora of different ideas and designs.
