Music Recitals on the campus of the University of Central Florida, featuring faculty, students, and guests.
If you are interested in seeing my senior recital, click on this link at 5:00 PM EST on Saturday, March 15th! :)
Hi everyone! My name is Matthew McGarvey and I am raising money to march for a second time with the DCI World Champion Drum Corps - Carolina Crown. I am currently studying to become a professional tuba player and teacher, and the experiences that I gain through marching are invaluable to my goals…
Hi everyone! My boyfriend’s brother will be marching in Carolina Crown for the second time this summer, and needs YOUR help raising some funds! I know he would appreciate it if you could either donate or share! Every dollar makes a difference, and for every person that donates $25 or more, he will give a private lesson to a tuba player at a local middle school with low funding for music. Help him out by sharing this post or donating! :)
Senior Recital
I'M GOING TO GRADUATE SCHOOL!
So this crazy semester with 19 credit hours and 4 jobs has finally come to an end, and I got straight A's. I also got accepted to Appalachian State University to study my Master's Degree in Music Therapy beginning in Fall 2014! I have one more semester of my undergraduate career, then off to North Carolina! :)
Final Fall Semester of Undergrad!
Tomorrow, I begin my final fall semester of my undergraduate career. I also had my last fall ensemble audition today, and I will be principal flute in the UCF Wind Ensemble this semester! I will also be working as Woodwind Caption Head at Winter Park High School, private teaching at home, private teaching at a local music school, and working at an off-campus bookstore. And, for the first time since fall of my freshman year, I have less than 20 credit hours in a semester, with 19! I can't wait to see what this year brings! :)
This is my recording of the 1st flute part of Peter Martin’s, “Mixing the Malt," for the 2013 Virtual Flute Choir under the direction of Paige Dashner Long and Dr. Karen Large. If you are interested in participating, check out http://www.virtualflutechoir.com!
This is a link to a playlist of the final concert with the Alan Baylock Big Band from the National Jazz Workshop at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA. I had an incredible time at the camp, and I got to take such an incredibly inspiring lesson with flutist Jonathan Snowden! I am honored to have been given such a chance to perform at this camp, and I learned so much about the jazz idiom. Thank you to those who made the camp possible, especially the professors running it and those that donated to my trip fund!

The camp begins a week from today! No donation is too small! :)

For those of you that saw my earlier posts, I was planning to attend the National Wind and Percussion Workshop at the Shenandoah Conservatory. However, the camp was cancelled due to low enrollment, and I was instead offered a chance to attend the National Jazz Workshop, with the same faculty, at the same location. As a flute player, studying at a Jazz Workshop is an incredible opportunity, because classical flute players rarely get the opportunity to study this genre of music, let alone with such a high caliber of faculty. Also, as I plan to go into Music Therapy, the improvisatory skills one can learn from jazz will be incredibly helpful in the field. The camp still costs the same, and any donation or sharing is greatly appreciated! :)

I am almost 40% to my goal of $350!! The entire cost of the camp tuition alone is $600, then I have to add on costs for the drive there! Luckily my school contributed $250, but I still need help raising some money. No donation is too small! :)

If everyone from my Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr friends donated a mere 50 cents, I would be very close to my goal of $350! :)
