This gets REALLY REALLY REALLY long under the cut and I love my Vocaloid and the fandom but I think with this article, I need to say some things out loud. This is an opinion. So, keep that in mind.
This is really interesting. As someone who came in during the boom (just before the Kagamine Appends came out), I saw that people watched videos because it’s Kaito singing or it’s Luka singing (as stated above). I loved Kaito because his voice was nice, he was cute, he was portrayed as the big brother of the Crypton vocaloids, etc. This caused some problems because there are fans who hate a song just because “oooh Kaito is such a perv” or “Len is such a pimp shota ew” but it still made VOCALOID popular. (but later on, I really came to love Kaito for his voice so I transitioned from the “husbando” to “hey his voice is actually super nice” phase)
