Share a section of your Design Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise?

What I have included is the basis on what "Favorite Show" is about and the reasons as to why it got cancelled.

I also included my sample posts. I only have my text planned as of right now. My question is do you think I have appropriate language for the sake of the topic in question? I tried to put myself in the shoes of both sides (an angry fan as well as the show responding), but I think I may be struggling a bit. Maybe I'm overthinking on some things? I'm not sure. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Original Content 2 - explain how audiences connect with show creators and producers on social media

Fans love contacting the creators and producers when the show turns out to be different than how they pictured the season/episode to end, and they love to contact producers when the show ends. We're living in a time where all shows are being rebooted. Shows are getting remade with different casts, like Dynasty, getting spin-offs, like Stranger Things, or getting continued, like Phineas and Ferb. Fans beg for things like this, and they even pitch their ideas to writers. Some fans can really be wild.

These are prime examples of how tv shows and movies can affect an audience so vastly. The Phineas and Ferb show getting continued was probably because of fans bringing up the idea, and that the show had the idea in the back of their minds for that possibility. There are some fans that for sure can be wild. There are also fans that may be afraid to speak their minds as well. I know I'm more of the silent follower if that makes sense. I see content that can relate to a tv show, for example, but not say any of my thoughts about it and have my own thoughts that I keep to myself.

Original Content 1 - explain how audiences connect with each other on social media over their love for a show

There are different levels of fans of shows. There is the average show enjoyer who watches the show for the sake of watching it, and then there are fans who deep dive and break down every tiny detail that could potentially mean something. Those are the fans who post on social media. We saw an uproar of this with shows like Stranger Things. I was in elementary school when the show started, but even people in my grade were obsessed and talking about it. Fans love agreeing with people just as much as they love disagreeing with people. Fan art and fan fiction are common ways people express their love for shows.

Bringing up the employers watching a show for the sake of watching it for their job was something that I honestly didn't even think of. There are so many perspectives when it comes to the audience of a show like you mention. I see so many more "fan-based posts" nowadays, and to me, I see them so much more on Facebook. Maybe it's because I'm on this platform a lot more than others, but that has been what I have been seeing lately.

Original Post 3: Appreciation of Web Writing: 

During these last couple of weeks of taking this course, I have learned a lot of valuable information that i will carry on in my career. What I appreciate most about learning web writing is understanding that content isn’t just about what you sa, it’s about how and where you say it. Audience, platform, and context shape every decision. WRIT 318 showed me that writing for Tumblr isn’t the same as writing for Instagram or an internal email. Now I look at everything from tone to formatting and even hashtags differently. I feel more equipped to write content that connects with people because I now think like a web user and a writer. That shift in mindset is something I’ll carry forward in my career.

You bring up some great points! I do realize as well that content isn't about only what we say in a post. We have to think of so many components in order to create the posts we do such as the audience, the discourse community, and much more. I will definitely be keeping this knowledge from the last four weeks in my future.

Extra Credit Post 5 - June 4th

Since we are focused on design - share pictures of 'good' design in the real world + explain. For instance, a bridge is a very functional, well-designed way to cross over a body of water - that is design I could share and explain. OR, my overview pages are 'well designed' with their icons to use images to help reading - I could share a picture of these pages and explain.

One object that shares a good design in the real world, in my opinion, is glasses. Glasses have evolved so much ever since they were first invented centuries ago. Today, glasses have fit the needs of anyone of all ages based on the examples below. Glasses not only fit the parameter that they help people to see better, but they also have a more stylistic approach. A pair of glasses for a child is vastly different from a pair of glasses meant for an adult from the size of the glasses to the colors used. They even involve straps for people who may have sensory issues, for example, and may struggle if the glasses do not rest on their face correctly to their standards. For children, there are options to include decorative clips on the side frames of glasses to add more personality. The last images under "kids" show a great example of this. And for adults, they have a similar outlook, but you can switch the front frames of your glasses to better fit the style of a particular outfit, for example. Original Content Post 14 - June 4th

What do you appreciate most about your learning about web writing? I learned so much throughout my four weeks in our web writing class. I appreciate the lessons that I learned along the way. Some of the things that I learned are the following. 1) Data isn't just about the numbers. Data is the driving point into how a content creator's platform will succeed or fail in the future. Data can be collected on just about anything on a content creator's platform, it's all based on what you want to learn about the content creator in question and what content they create specifically. 2) Writing on paper is a completely different subject when comparing web writing. To me, before I started this class, I always thought that writing was just writing, but I now have a new perspective on writing and web writing respectively. 3) Web writing allows content creators, viewers, and analysts to gather information about content on the internet and draw conclusions to the millions of questions that we have on a regular basis when it comes to the internet. Whether it relates to social media posts specifically or a content creator's video, we are able to use the processes that we learned in class to get to conclusions on a number of subjects in the future.

Original Content Post 13 - June 4th

Explain how audiences connect with each other on social media over their love for a show. Audiences connect with one another on social media over their love for a show in an number of ways.

One of which, they can post their own feelings on their own personal social media page to see if any of their "friends" or followers will agree or disagree based on their feelings. This can create a more "personal" interaction because these feelings would be more targeted with people that one may know of already instead of commenting on a general page with total strangers. Another example can include posting on a fan page in relation to the show. There are many of fandom pages on social media nowadays, and many fans may list their feelings about certain scenes and seasons of the show with each other. Even though the fans on the group page may not necessarily know each other, people can meet new friends in this way if it comes to positive interactions on the show, or it can relate to negative experiences if anyone disagrees with a particular statement and could be brave enough to speak their mind on it.

I'm sure their are other examples out there, but this is based on what I have seen in the past as well as in the present.

Original Content Post 12 - June 4th

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?  I have several examples of TV shows that I have research which are mentioned through the images below. Based on some of my research on each show, most of the angry reactions come from the fact that the show is actually coming to an end. All of the shows below have ended at some point (but from what I am seeing is that Supernatural is creating another season? Not sure if it's more of a spinoff or another part of the show). Other reactions come from character development as well as how characters were perceived in later seasons of the show (ex: Dwight Schrute from The Office had received angry reactions due to character development because his character is usually perceived as "mean"). I think the research for each of these shows will help me through this project for not only of thinking about a plot for fans to have "angry reactions" over, but also each show has a different audience and discourse community in general. All shows may have a mix of age groups depending on one's interests, but I would assume Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries to aim more towards a "younger" audience (~20s at least) and Superstore and The Office may gravitate and audience more on the maturer side (a range from ~mid 20s to 30s and 40s maybe? just a guess). Each of these shows have different genres and plots that work to gather information as to reasons why fans may be angry at certain circumstances of each show.

What questions do you have about writing to angry fans of Favorite Show? What questions do you have about writing responses as TV Movie Studio Co?

Some questions I have that relate to the "Favorite Show" project are the following. 1) How will we know how to create the "angry reactions" specifically if we are aiming for the genre of "Favorite Show"? I'm assuming that is where researching other TV shows/movies would be beneficial to get an idea of how the plot of that particular show/movie received the feedback that it did? 2) In terms of responses from TV Movie Studio Co., I understand we are avoiding simple posts such as "We are sorry that you feel this way", but would we just think of plots specifically (somewhat) in order to craft an appropriate response to the angry fans in question? For example, I did some research on some of my favorite tv shows (which I am planning to specifically mention in my next original content post) and most of them mention reasons such as character development, the ending of the show itself, how fans perceive characters in later seasons, etc. I would assume we would need specific details of "Favorite Show" in order to have as much success with the project as possible? 3) Would a specific platform work better for particular shows? What I mean by this, would the news of tween/younger teen shows be seen more on platforms like TikTok and adult shows would work better with platforms like Facebook or Instagram for example? I'm trying to think of the platform specifically for my project and was thinking of using TikTok for no matter what show I come up with (no matter the audience) because TikTok seems to be one of the most popular social media platforms, but at the same time, many people might not use TikTok or ever even heard of it. @npfannen

Extra Credit Post 4 - May 31st

What is your go-to video content?

I would say that some of my favorite go-to video content would be book related content (which I am basing some of the content creators I follow, not necessarily favorites, on my Content Analysis Project) as well as Knitting and Crocheting videos.

I like book related videos because I think I find so many more options in terms of what interests me to go find and read next. I also like to experiment my interests in books and seeing if I agree with the content creator(s) or disagree based on how I view the book once I am done reading it. I also like seeing different book challenge videos to make reading more exciting and add a twist versus just picking up a book because it seemed interesting at the time.

I like knitting and crocheting videos because I am able to find tutorials to help expand my knowledge on the crafts more. I also plan to practice more on my stitching before going back to more tutorials in the future. It’s been a while since I have seen any knitting or crocheting videos, so I think I’m out of practice due to life’s responsibilities (school and work). I want to be able to make hats, scarves, bags, etc. in the future. I find both crafts to be extremely relaxing as well as reading books.

Original Post 3:  What I Learned From Module 2 Data Analysis Practice Project

I gained many insights in module 2 and the data analysis practice project. I learned the importance of viewing content through a lens with the purpose, user experience, and audience. This module gave me a good foundation in web writing, and it's strategic and backed by data. While completing the project, I saw how the differences in audience engagement reflected how well the posts went. It helped me realize that focusing on the data to see what works better. I will focus on the content and the data of how well posts do this week to help draw conclusions that help guide future content strategy.

I definitely learned quite a bit with the Data Analysis Project as well. I view online content much differently now based on social engagement through likes, comments, and shares. I never knew there was so much more than just a number to determine success on a post. There's also user experience, audience, content strategy, and others like you mention. I plan to reflect on my data as well to hopefully find an answer to my research question and hypothesis for my Content Analysis Project.

Content Post 1

The digital space I am planning to focus on this week for our Content Analysis Project is TikTok. I made this choice over choosing a platform such as Facebook or Instagram, not only because TikTok is the app I am currently most familiar with, but also because in the current conversation of content creation, this is probably one of the most popular platforms to use and share on.

I am planning to use TikTok as well as YouTube for my Content Analysis Project. I am intrigued to compare the two platforms as they are both video-based platforms, but have totally different styles. I agree with your statement that TikTok is relatively easy to use and one of the most popular as well. I feel like TikTok really sky-rocketed in popularity over the last few years, especially after when the platform was about to be deleted.

Data Isn’t Just Numbers

One thing I really took away from the Data Analysis Practice is that data isn’t just numbers but a way to see what matters to your audience. At first, I thought likes were just a measure of popularity. But I learned that those numbers are part of a much bigger picture. They reflect strategy, timing, audience needs, and the design choices that either help a post connect or don’t.

That practice helped me slow down and ask better questions: What does this post do visually? Why might someone stop and click? Is the content meaningful for the space it’s in?

In Module 3, I’m carrying that mindset into my data collection.

Here is a reflection question for you: What’s one post you’ve seen recently that had high engagement but maybe didn’t have a strong strategy behind it? What made it “work” anyway?

I originally went into the Data Analysis Project thinking that the data was just the number of likes, comments, shares, etc. and how it enhanced the post/content in general. I am now seeing as well that there is so much more than just that. This class has helped me realize that content involves timing, strategy, organization, and many other factors in order to make a post successful. The definition of successful can mean many different things to many different content creators. I am also taking what I have learned from the previous module to enhance my thinking for the Content Analysis Project.

Original Content Post 11 - May 31st

Research Question - What did you learn about writing a research question that can be answered through social media data and content strategy ideas? How will this help you in this module?

My research question helped me learn more about social media data and content strategy ideas by thinking about the newest trends in the BookTube/BookTok/Online Book Community. In this particular instance for social media data, TikTok has become one of the most popular platforms for book content today, but YouTube was the first platform to create the online book community. My theory is because people don’t necessarily have time to sit and watch a 30-minute video, for example, about book content. They may simply not have the patience to watch the video all the way through. So, in terms of content strategy, TikTok took over their idea of creating shorter posts (as long as around 10 minutes at most) and this way people will be able to have the patience to watch a video all the way through without thinking that they are “wasting time”. TikTok also has a system where you can simply scroll through videos to get to what you want; versus YouTube you have type and search for the content you want to view. This is also another theory of mine, that because TikTok has a “more simple and better” process of viewing videos by just searching for the content creator you want to view and scrolling through their videos, versus YouTube starting to get out of the picture more due to the more “time-consuming” process of searching for the content creator, searching their through all of their videos (new to old) and figuring out which ones you want to watch.

User Experience Analysis - Who are we as users of Tumblr? Practice your context/space analysis skills by providing details you've gleaned about your use of a social media space through your use of Tumblr for class.

As users on Tumblr, we are considered a general audience. Now, when it comes to specific interests to us as users on Tumblr, that’s a different story. From what I have discovered in my little bit of time on Tumblr, I noticed that there are several different online communities out there. For example, I may have an interest in posts about TV shows versus another user being interested in posts about historical events. This would show us being in two different and separate communities, one being TV related and one being History related. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong about this, but this helps narrow down the interests of users so much more versus labeling users as a “general audience” and sort of guessing each other’s interests.

Original Content Post 9 - May 31st

What digital space are you planning to focus on? The digital spaces that I plan to focus on are going to be YouTube and TikTok because they are related to my research question, “Why has TikTok influenced so much of the book community today, if YouTube was the one that started it all?” My content analysis project is going to be based on book content creators and how their content relates to the BookTube/BookTok community. In my time viewing book content creators’ content, I first viewed their content through YouTube, which was probably around 2012, but it seems like TikTok sort of stole credit in a way of becoming the number one place for book content, but YouTube should be getting the credit because without YouTube there would most likely not be any sort of book community. I understand that times change, but I almost feel like people are excluding YouTube altogether and going straight to TikTok having the wrong idea of who came up with the online book community first. I wonder if it’s only based on the timing of which content creators today are discovering the platforms, or if they are getting the wrong information when it comes to YouTube vs. TikTok?

What questions do you have about content strategy that you would like me to answer? This will be the theory at the heart of your Content Analysis Project - ask any and all questions to help you develop strong analysis in your work.

Some questions that I have are based on the reading from the book. First, what happens if a content creator is "successful" on one platform and has trouble navigating on how to keep that same "success" on other platforms whether it be not having knowledge of the specific platform, having brain fog on what to create for content, etc? Will they just need to experiment over and over again until they find what works for them? Second, how will content creators know what to edit/go back on for the sake of the UX? Based on my knowledge of UX, it needs to accessible to a wide range of people in terms of accessibility and usability. How will a content creator know if something is not accessible unless users explain the situation? If users can't say or ask questions, what would they do then? Third, how many hashtags are considered too much? I see posts all over social media that may include maybe two to five hashtags, while others include as much as a quarter of the post's space because of the number of hashtags used. How much is considered too little? How much is too much? I think that is all of my questions as of now. Thank you for your help!
