How to choose?
Everything about me reflects and inability or indifference toward choosing absolute favorites-- I'm polyamorous, non-binary, queer, and an anarchist!
But! I can choose to feature some of the things I prefer or like a lot. For the sake of brevity and my inclinations, I'll choose two of my enduring favorite television shows.
The Good Place
This show has stayed with me because of the storytelling around moral philosophy, personal growth, and how hard it is to be a good person living under capitalism. The way the characters develop as individuals and a community is inspiring. Also, the idea that you can become a better person in the afterlife is one that I think about a lot, even though I'm not convinced there is an afterlife. Something else I love about this show is how different the people are from each other and how they are able to bridge that gap. There is so much I could say, but I'll save space for my next favorite.
The Magicians
The Magicians is a rich world of magic, mental health, friendship, non-traditional romance, quests, and queerness. Imagine if there were graduate level studies in actual magic? That's this show. There are elements of fantasy woven together with real world problems. It's part escapism and part self-discovery. It shows how messy life still is when you have power and how power always has consequences.
