What Happened?

So my grandpa suffers from a very violent form of Dementia/ Alzheimers, he’s now completely unable to care for himself and has very bad mental breakdowns. Due to him being like this, he and my grandma are housebound, with my grandma needing to stay by his side 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, he’s not allowed outside on his own.

Due to this me, my mom and my stepdad have to do almost everything for them, my mom now owns my grandpa’s car, so she does their shopping, visits them almost everyday for care, deals with any emergencies/ breakdowns my grandpa has, etc.

Now, onto the emergency, a few days ago the car completely broke down, the gearbox has completely broken, oil is leaking from the car and is now completely unusable, its basically just scrap at this point. This is a huge problem as we cant get to my grandparents for their care, if theres an emergency, we cant do anything for them without the car and both my grandma and mom cant afford to fix the car, or buy a cheap enough second hand car to replace the broken one.

This is a very bad situation that needs to be resolved as soon as possible, so im opening donations to attempt to help my family, and any YCH’s i post over the next few days will be to get funds to help pay for a better secondhand car.

It still surprises me at how few people have seen Freak of the Week, and I love sharing it with friends because of the inevitable, “How the hell have I never seen this?” look of awe drawn out on their face.

And man, it really is gorgeous.

Directed by Juanjo Guarnido, it took the team about a year of hard work to hammer out this bloody masterpiece (which you can learn about in his video here) using a combination of 3D animation with the power of college interns skill of a team of artists to painstakingly re-draw the 3D elements they wanted in 2D frame-by-frame, not to mention the post processing and… everything else.

Even though it came out in 2014, it doesn’t seem to have ever garnered the attention it truly deserves.

I really wanna drive this point home, so to give you an idea, Ghost by Mystery Skulls, animated by MysteryBen27 has 18,147,263 views. Freak of the Week has only 2,271,121 views at the time I’m writing this. That’s fucking depressing for something so … phenomenal. I want more of this, and hell, maybe you do too. But we’re not going to see anymore simply because the right people haven’t seen it. In fact, it failed to reach a respectable level of Internet Popularity®, Juanjo himself even described it in the comments section as having ruined him because of how little attention it got.

So if you’re reading this and you’ve got some connections with a TV network or something, consider pulling some strings to get this video spoon-fed to the masses, because people ought to see this. I’m sure Juanjo would be all too happy to oblige. And hell, if you wanna buy the art book, you can get the link here for about $50.

Now, maybe you recognize the former Disney animator Juanjo Guarnido for his other work: Blacksad.

Which is a comic set in the late 1950′s about a hardboiled private investigator published originally by Dark Horse Comics that does… y’know, the …

… badass …

… detective story thing.

That I haven’t yet read but I TOTALLY NEED TO.

I guess I’m bringing up Freak of the Week because I was reading the comment section and, man, it kinda got me down.

Some of the best things things out there just haven’t been seen by the right people, I guess. But I suppose it’s also a depressing statement on the culture of the internet that the video makes.

This is depressing. If you haven’t watched this video yet PLEASE do, I was in awe and fell instantly in love with it when I first saw it and just assumed something is fantastic and detailed would become an Internet hit …

Apparently not.

Well it should be, I hope this gets to the right people and the video gets the attention it rightfully deserves.

The internet could change next week, and not in a good way

You may have heard about the efforts in Europe to reform copyright law. The debate has been ongoing in the European Parliament for months. If approved next week, these new regulations would require us to automatically filter and block content that you upload without meaningful consideration of your right to free expression.

We respect the copyrights and trademarks of others, and we take all reports seriously to ensure that your creative expression is protected. We make this clear in our Community Guidelines. There’s already a legal framework that works and is fair: Today we take down posts and media that contain allegedly infringing content when we receive a valid DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) takedown request. We also provide clear-cut ways for people to fight back if they believe their removed content was not a true violation. These instances are monitored and reported and live in our biannual transparency report.

The suggestion to use automated filters for issues of copyright is short-sighted at best and harmful at worst. Automated filters are unable to determine whether a use should be considered “fair use” under the law and are unable to determine whether a use is authorized by a license agreement. They are unable to distinguish legitimate parody, satire, or even your own personal pictures that could be matched with similar photographs that have been protected by someone else. We don’t believe that technology should replace human judgment. Tumblr is and always has been a place for creative expression, and these new regulations would only make it harder for you to express yourself with the freedom and clarity you do so now.

I’m now opening Semi-Emergency Commissions/ Donations due to a family problem thats happened recently. Heres whats happened;

So recently, my grandpa’s health and memory has been deteriorating very quickly, he’s been forgetting things, having angry outbursts and ‘seeing’ people around his own home, even though its only him and my gran living there. We sent him off for brain scans, fearing he would have dementia, but it came back a lot worse, the doctors have discovered he has Alzheimer's Disease, and its violent. This has hit us all REALLY hard, especially me. My grandpa has been the father figure for me ever since i was born since my real dad left, i’m very very close to my grandpa and knowing that he wont be himself soon, and will forget me completely eventually is very difficult to come to terms with, its breaking my heart honestly.

So, Why am i opening these Commissions/ Donations ?

Because of how badly my grandpas memory is getting, we’ve been told he could end up forgetting who people are within weeks. Before that happens, before he does eventually forget who i am, i want to take him out for a whole day, give him a fun day, just me and him together, maybe do some travelling, go visit someplace cool and relaxing. I just want to do something special for him before the worst happens and right now, with paying for bills and trying to move out i don’t have the money to spare doing that sadly.

If you would like to help, it would really mean a lot to me, just £100 would be enough to take him out for a day, get him food, pay for his travel etc. I know my grandpa would really enjoy it too.

Net Neutrality is in DEEP Trouble

Now that I got your attention with this video…

The FCC decided to go ahead with the vote to remove the Net Neutrality rules that the Obama administration set up.

As you can see, this is what the major ISPs wants to do if they have their way. This can do a few things:

Stiff new innovations, making it harder for smaller companies to compete.

Silence independent voices.

Potentially putting up a “walled garden” on a wide scale.

Make distribution of information harder for low-income people.

Imagine this website, if you will, only working on Verizon networks while AT&T customers are charged a little extra, or have slower access to the same information.

Remember, your ISP owns content providers and may give top-shelf, VIP treatment to their own things while stiffing everyone else. We need to address this.

Now, some of you may recall earlier this year that John Oliver and a lot of other people, companies (and yours truly) did a rallying cry to tell the FCC to back off the Net Neutrality rules, which resulted in millions of comments on their proposal.

However, there’s been a few problems… in short, it seems that the FCC chose to not listen due to “inconsistancies”.

So, what can we do about this?

There are a few things you can do to help slow down this nightmare situation.

You can’t just “like” this note, you have to reblog to spread, but more importantly, you have to TAKE action!

1) Make calls to your representatives - https://5calls.org/issue/defend-fcc-net-neutrality - this website will tell you who to call and an easy-to-follow script so that you know exactly what to say.

2) You can support groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the ACLU and Free Press who are fighting to keep Net Neutrality:

Let’s all band together and do something about this. Our future of sharing information, building innovation, nurturing voices and creativity depends on your actions now!

I know it may sound hopeless. Look at when they announced this (you probably didn’t know they announced this on Monday when you’re busy getting ready to for the holiday!). But if we say it with one voice to BACK OFF THE NET, we maybe able to make a difference.

Hi.

I’m the Original Poster and I did my best to keep this brief with sources you can see for yourself.

However, with misinformation being a thing, I decided to amend to this to give you some extra pointers as to why I was specific about these steps and not recommend things like strictly writing to the FCC.

1) Calling your reps and writing them is more effective than doing it via email. It’s been stated over, and over, and over again. Sadly, letters and phone calls are more effective.

2) Signing a petition can help, but without a way to verify you, it can be just as useful as shouting on Twitter (and will they look at Twitter? Nope.) It’s not totally useless, but it will not totally do the job.

See, if the FCC can use “bots” as an excuse (look at the sources in the original post), what makes you think a senator and representatives won’t? This is why “calling your rep” is the first action step and “writing your reps” is the last.

3) Regardless, the non-profit organizations’ job (the one I posted about) is to spread awareness BEYOND YOUR NETWORK. Think of them as a private army you’re recruiting for this one mission. You can only tell so many people and some of you don’t live in the United States, which makes it even harder!

4) BTW, you’re not just talking about this on Tumblr, are you? You have to talk to people on your other social networks as well. They are affected by things as well. Don’t want to talk? Post a link to here and let me do the talking for you.

5) While I have done the research for you, please do your own in conjunction with this. That way, you can be better informed, especially when talking about this to other people.

6) Oh and one more thing since I did neglect this in my last post. I forgot to post the “deadline” - the actual day they will vote. Well…

We have until December 14, 2017!

So, let’s mobilize! Organize! Transform and roll out!

Okay, maybe not the last one…

But make the calls to your reps! Scroll up and do your part, no matter which side you’re on!
