Alice’s Evidence – Chapter 12
The trial becomes even more absurd when a confusing letter is introduced as evidence. The King and Queen insist it proves the Knave’s guilt, even though it does not make sense and does not even refer to him. When Alice is called to the stand, she finally speaks out boldly, saying the entire trial is ridiculous.
The Queen becomes furious and orders Alice’s execution, but Alice refuses to be intimidated. She calls the court nothing more than a pack of cards. At that moment, the cards rise up and rush toward her.
Alice wakes up suddenly on her sister’s lap, realizing it was all a dream. Her sister listens to her story and imagines that Alice, even as she grows up, will never lose her imagination and sense of wonder.
