Hi. I am here today to share a wonderful tale of FUN (Dwarf Fortress use of the word <3), in which my friends got me to make a Lancer pilot.
So. It's been in talks for a week or so that this little group I'm in might do a short campaign(? forgive me I have never done any TTRPG things, I do not know the terms). Today is the day that prep for this began and those of us unfamiliar with Lancer made our pilots!
Of the five of us who were present, three were versed in Lancer already (with two being long-time enjoyers), and two of us were basically being told to read stuff roughly as complex as what a new NASA employee would read, probably. I am one of those two.
So! They chucked me onto comp/con after a chat about what I want in a frame (I am going to Mosquitomaxx!) and I made the general baseline for my guy: James "Rat" McNamara.
I asked if I should do bio stuff before anything else and the vets said should get all the fancy stat/ability stuff done first and then have a think about those things. So I had a think about them during the enstattening and finally got to work on the bio when:
Something had managed to go Terribly Wrong. I completely lost the ability to use backspace in the biography section. Still worked in the other two! Just not that one. So my fellow newbie suggested a good idea
Not pictured is me also discovering ctrl+c and ctrl+v do not work on the box either </3
It was at this point I discovered the backspace did, in fact, still work in the other two textboxes. So we all stared in confusion for a bit before one of them suggested keeping it in because it's funny, so I opted to do that and just keep writing!
which is how I discovered the enter key did this.
At this point I decided to restart my computer. This did not work, so I then offered to send an export of James' file, and one of the vets took up the offer.
He was also unable to edit the bio.
So, I was instructed to test out making another pilot and they were miraculously free of this mysterious bug, so I went on to remake James and thankfully the second attempt was free of any bugs!
And now my pilot list looks like this.
And this is the part where I mention during most of this there was a conversation revealing you can kiss the mechs happen, in case "John MechFucker" didn't make it obvious <3
Here's James' pilot portrait in its full glory, as a reward (punishment?) for reading the full post. I spent at least an hour on this which makes it one of the most productive uses of my time in the past 3 months.
