All you remembered was everything crushing on top of you. The screams. The Loud Bang.
Then the darkness
Now you felt the pain in your side, in your back, everywhere really. It hurt to open your eyes but you did, you were still trapped in the plane. Everything had crushed you, and it was painful.
Hearing some movement nearby you strained your neck to look. It only hurt more. You could see the faint outline of Mark and he collapsed next to you. His cheeks were stained with tears, "Lexie," he choked, "She, she died," you almost gasped but bit your lip.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, breathing in and out and counting your breaths. Mark looked at you, and you sent a painful glance back.
"No," said Mark, pointing his shaking finger at you, "You, you can't die on my too Y/N Avery, I won't let you," he grabbed your hand, and you tried to smile. Blood rose to your throat and you coughed, "Y/N," he whispered.
A tear escaped your eye, and slid down your cheek. "It hurts Mark, it hurts so badly," you could feel your heart, and you couldn't tell if it was slowing down or speeding up. Your breathing was less frequent. You were a doctor, you knew what this meant. You were dying. "Mark," you whispered.
"No, no y/n you have to stay," he said, "For me, for Jackson,"
Jackson Avery. Your husband. The man you had promised to be with forever. Till death do you part. You didn't think it would be so soon. And you loved him and you wanted to stay but it was too damn painful to keep breathing. It hurt every inch of you to just keep going. Mark squeezed your hand tightly. It was unfair, that he would lose you and Lexie on the same day. The universe was cruel.
"Tell...tell Jackson-" you were spluttering out words now.
Mark looked you dead in the eye, "I'm not telling Jackson anything because you can tell him yourself," he said, you let out a small sigh.
"I love him Mark, tell him I love him. I love his face, his smile, his eyes, his voice, his smell. I love everything about him and I always have," you breathed in sharply, causing Mark to cry again, "Tell him I'll meet him again and we can spend eternity together, just make sure he knows that i never stopped thinking about him,"
He shook his head, "Please you have to stay, you can't leave me," you let out a sob because you couldn't work out which hurt more. Leaving Mark, Losing Jackson or the weight of a plane crushing you. Everything was dark and all you could make out was Mark. "It's me and you, okay, thats what we said, we've made it this far,"
You couldn't manage to make out any words. And Mark rested his head against the plane that was crushing you. He looked pale. "Go," you whispered, barely audible. You pointed to the blood along his neck. "I'll stay," you choked out. Mark nodded, and you managed to watch him find Cristina and Meredith.
Peacefully, you closed your eyes. You thought about Jackson. You hated not hearing your breathing as it became shallower. Jackson.
The first time you set foot in Jackson's apartment. He'd made you dinner. As soon as you'd walked in the door he'd kissed you and twirled you around. He complimented you dress and your hair, and the new shoes you'd bought.
He smelled of tea, sleep and the moon. He was your home.
For your second date he took you for a picnic in the park. There was all your favourite foods, and you lay hand in hand for hours as the sunset. He'd fed you chocolate covered strawberries and you'd kissed him as the sunset. His hand had never left yours. You could still feel his hands running through your hair.
He had proposed to you on the beach, it felt like years ago. Like you'd been together your whole life. He had taken you away to Hawaii, and you'd spent every hour on the beach together. As you took a walk under the stars on the final night he had asked you to marry him. You could still remember the pattern of the stars lighting up his face. You could remember everything. It was never a distant memory, and you could live it out forever soon.
When Mark came back over he saw your body and felt your cold hand. He tried to hear your breathing but there wasn't any. He cried again, holding your hand close to him. "Fuck you Y/N Avery," he whispered, "You said you'd stay,". There was a faint smile on your lips still. And he knew that in your last moments all you had been thinking about was Jackson. He hated you for leaving him, but all good things had to come to an end. Eventually all promises had to be broken. He just hated that you'd broken all yours so soon.
"I do," you responded, and Jackson pulled you into his arms to kiss you. His hands wrapped round your waist, and as his lips met yours he twirled you around. And as he pulled away from you he left a whisper in your ear that still sent shivers up your spine.
