#repost When I was in elementary school I went to private school with lots of Italians, and Hispanics. There were no other kids who looked like me. Mixed. I remember a girl named Anastasia Alvarez and her sister Mercedes use to tease me, pick on me, and pull my curls. They told me I wasn’t Puerto Rican cause I didn’t speak Spanish. I only had a few good friends Victor, Jovan and Marina. I felt like they understood me because we stood out from everyone else. I had people ask me for years if I was adopted. When I would go the store with my mom they would look at her and then look at me like is that your daughter? High school was the worst time of my life. Kids were very fucked up. They made me hate the way I looked. I started to straighten my hair which cause lots of heat damage. I even had a boy (I will not name because he follows me on here and I won’t start no mess) tell me my gap was ugly and that since he had braces he is getting his teeth fixed. You wanna talk about bullying isn’t real? That shit is very depressing. People telling you can’t hang with them cause you’re not black enough or Hispanic enough. But you know what? That whole time I never chose what I was more of nor did I have an identity crisis. I am proud to be African American and Puerto Rican. I am what you call an Afro-Latina. Yeah I don’t speak Spanish, yeah I don’t look full black or Hispanic. But none of that matters. I am me. I am proud of who I am. My mother taught me to always be proud. And never once did I doubt my identity. Those kids who bullied me k-12 were simply ignorant! When I got into my 20s I grew to love my curly hair and my gap. And now people want to have my hair. People want to have my lips. Now if I weren’t attractive then I guess I wouldn’t be married right? Lol #jokesonyou #forthebullies #strongerthanever
