I think what is so insanely endearing about Cherry Magic is that Adachi’s reactions to being in love for the first time are SO authentic and relatable. He questions what it’s going to be like working together, he stresses out about what to wear on the first date, worries about the label that they are going to put on their relationship, panics when he thinks Kurosawa is misinterpreting Tsuge and his relationship... the list goes on and on. He looks at Kurosawa and goes ‘I love you! I love you! I love you’ and is delighted when he hears Kurosawa call him his boyfriend in his mind for the first time. EVERYTHING is new to him and, even though he is sometimes scared, Adachi finds strength and confidence through his relationship with Kurosawa and starts to be bold about his feelings. He courageously tells Tsuge about their relationship, he gets in the middle of the fight and he isn’t afraid to be open about how he feels for Kurosawa and what he wants from the relationship. With every new scene, we see Adachi become more and more sure of himself... Adachi is the underdog that so many of us can relate to so seeing a kind, gentle and awkward character grow into himself makes us, the viewers, believe we can too.
