5 insanely talented artists & I came together for Art Hack Day 2015 at Pioneer Works and made a VR experience called #drowning.
Part drowning simulator, part game show (pretty much), #drowning is a 1v1 VR game where you're kinda bobbing above an ocean that looks post-eustatic
(non stereo screenshots bc obvi)
So basically, this is a round-based fighting game, where your only weapon is the popularity of google trend search data from 2014. That is to say, each round has a topic: scandals, consumer electronics, sports, celebs . . .
Players say what search term they think would yield the most popular return (a number conveniently scaled btwn 0-100). Those search terms go to Google Trends and come back with a number value, which constitutes how much the water rises in your opponent's world.
Round-based play continues until one player drowns. you dont really win this game, you just, hopefully, dont lose first...
We had about 36 hours to make this so it's def still POC level. but it damn works! & the google trends part features a sick ascii / terminal based interface that we like to call the D&D version of the game experience.
more updates coming soon & stereo shots / vid & more documentation etc etc!
