the biggest one yet. the peeperrrrr
also I meant to release this on the 27th. uh. I assume it’s still the 27th in some different timezones so I say it still counts :D either way. happy 9th anniversary to the world of rain and 1st anniversary to the one who watches!
Bandit (he/it) is a lone, nomadic scug who’s hardened by his times carving through the world on his own, becoming cold and cutthroat. He’ll sometimes attack scav tribes and scug colonies to acquire resources; in spite of this, it isn’t really malicious or ill-willed, kinda having a kill-or-be-killed mindset and seeing this as what it needs to do to survive. It waited to attack Watcher & co for time where it was sure Gourmand wasn’t around, as he knew she could and would snap him like a branch if she were there
Dawn (she/it/they) and Watcher are the children of the Gourmand and a slugcat called the Phantasm. After Phantasm left on a hunting mission and never came back for mysterious reasons, the Servant stepped in to help Gourm parent the two pups. Dawn was definitely the spunkier of the two, almost fearless at times, and her spirited nature definitely rubbed off on the more quiet and introverted Watcher at times.
Servant (he/they) took care of many smaller matters within the colony, and tended to be of a more pacifistic nature than those around him. He was also a good friend of Gourm
Watcher (ze/hir) was left kinda mentally/emotionally stunted due to hir trauma, and tended to stay hidden because it was the only way ze knew how to keep hirself safe. Deep down, ze were lonely and wanted connection, but didn’t know where to start & kinda felt like it was something ze could never have, especially with other scugs. Ze would become timid and awkward whenever another being (especially another scug) payed direct attention to hir, as ze was used to being unseen. Spinning Top reminded hir of hirself, but also hir sibling, a bit. Their friendship gave hir a tether that slowly coaxed hir out of hir passive tendencies, with ze becoming more confident as ze saw more of the world and became more used to actively chasing a goal. Gaining more power through ST also helped hir feel more at peace with the turbulent world around hir
When ST ascended, it was an intensely bittersweet moment. The absence might have left Watcher to sink back into hir passivity - but, surprising even hir, had the opposite effect, driving hir even more determinedly to seek new connection. This is how ze met the Prince, whose immortal, preserving nature drew hir in; falling into a rhythm of uniting the world under one immortal kingdom was appealing, but when everything was done, ze realized this isn’t what ze truly wanted
Meeting the Weaver brought Watcher back to hirself, and ze slowly gained the resolve to align and heal things instead, clearing out the Rot (tho ze never held any hard feelings toward the Prince and their earnest, welcoming demeanor)
Having seen much and gained plentiful power and insight, Watcher was at peace, coming to terms with hir past and no longer fearing the unknowns of ascension. Hir new, ascended form reflected hir new nature as an interdimensional creature that’s traversed the farthest corners of reality, and learned and gained friends from each one. Hir “mortal form” is hir full-grown size, symbolizing hir growth (this size being quite big, as I imagine Watcher hitting a HUGE growth spurt and getting just as big & towering as Gourm. for funsies)
Still quite down-to-earth for a now otherworldly entity, due to organic origins. Tends to come up just to chill and frolic. and mingle with hir own kind; still relatively reserved, but more comfortable than ever before interacting with others, serving as a friendly, caring and somewhat playful presence
Def took some inspo from @failed-inspection with the ascension ending designs (esp the “mortal” form)
