florida culture is having “hurricane parties” which is where you and all your friends have a sleepover at the sturdiest house among the group and pray the power doesn’t go out during your group netflix binge. there’s usually a lot of snacks involved so it’s nice to see walmart making special cakes for the occasion

we might also ask: why iranian artefacts for the premiere of a film adaptation of a greek epic? & the obvious answer is because well we respect greek cultural heritage more than iranian + the greeks are better able to protect their material culture from looters than iran, currently being bombed by the us (cf. the looting of iraq's material culture during the american occupation)

ok i have an updated perspective on the movie

i didn't love it when it first came out but i enjoyed the jokes/memes. i judged it differently and yes, it was partially due to my youth. major takeaways then were: andy was getting way into her job, i didnt like the blonde dude AT ALL, her bf was right, her friends were supportive + right and emily was funny.

now, i am totally sympathetic to andy's desperation due to her financial constraints--her dad had to help pay her rent! i am sympathetic that she was groveling for a job. i almost wish it came that easy because the returns of her time there were lifetime. obvi don't support the abusive environment but damn, remember when you applied for a job and got it without 4-5 rounds of interviewing?

anyway, my takeaways are: andy was getting way into her job but had valid reasoning, her bf should have been more supportive when she was still "herself", her friends were fine, blonde dude is still a creep but he pulled through with hp7 and emily was still hilarious. i like the movie a lot more. i actually want to own a copy!

hmmm thinking about watching the sequel while the first is fresh in my head.

my nails look fab btw. i got a some new nail stuff (including a glass cuticle thing) and it worked very well.

i see why people say it was a good sequel. i see why meryl broke her no sequel rule for this.

the story found a way to bring back the characters in a similar power structure so their old dynamics still worked. the budget was noticeably increased and the first film's success breaking barriers to those in fashion was noted. i loved that the setting was updated to modern, such as miranda getting clocked for hr violations and her softening due to time and imo having stronger loyal ties (nigel, andy and her husband). as much as i wanted more andy x emily, i get why it was that little--kinda how it was in the first movie. this is andy and miranda's story. speaking of, too much on the dudes. also where did that guy who played andy's love interest come from??? who is that actor? (ok i thought lee pace was andy's partner but wrong sequel lololol so my disappointment was amplified due to my expectations).

and all my love for amari <3 simone is such a great fashionable mean girl.

Next thing you know, I got a fax from Miranda Priestly herself… saying that of all the assistants she's ever had… you were, by far, her biggest disappointment. And, if I don't hire you, I am an idiot. You must have done something right.
