It’s been a pretty good week this week, got an actual day off today, which feels fucking decadent. I made a wedding card for my sister and it was nice to do something creative again for the first time in a while, so I thought I’d pop it on here. Last year my Nibling got a little 3D printed dragon in an egg, and the tail broke off. Nevertheless, she loves that bit of bloody plastic and wanted a larger ‘hatched’ version of it. Who am I to deny my niblings?

I made the basic frame with wire, padded it, made a body out of felt, sewed two rocks out of the garden into it because the fucking thing kept tipping on its face and then spent about ten months sewing on sequins in my spare time (yeah, I’m fully aware of my poor decision making). Anyway, I love how it turned out and also never want to see the fucking thing again.

Oh yeah, the toy also had to have a scarred, broken off tail as well, that was the aesthetic choice of a ten year old.

In case anyone’s wondering, I still haven’t started my assignment. Oops.

Over the next few posts, I thought I’d put up a couple of things I’ve done over the last year, that I had fun with :)

This was a birthday card for my brother, who is very good at pool (and is now super old hahaha!).

I had a scrap of green felt leftover from covering a pool table light for a friend and it was very thin, so it gave me the idea for this.

I wanted a pop-up pool table, so I used very thin card and decorated it with paper scraps and the felt. I used a new tool I was trying, which I don’t know the name of, but it heats foil and transfers it into your chosen surface. It made nice little metallic details.

The balls are baked sculpey painted with nail polish (that seems to be my go-to lately), and the pool cues were wooden skewers that I cut short and painted. They can actually come off, I have a tiny scrap of Velcro glued to them.

Anyway, I was pretty happy with the result :)

Heee-uuuuuge Pratchett fan here. This was my most recent cosplay collaboration, done with the wearer, the Librarian. We bought a set of pj’s that fit comfortably, tore them apart at the seams and used the pattern to create a trousers and top set. The top has a magnetised panel on the right which opens to allow access to a hollow belly made out foam exercise mats (it was filled with plastic bananas for yeeting). Sneakers and gloves had foam wrapped wire digits (poseable) sewn and glued on and then covered with black fabric, plastimake fingernails and fur. The mask was made out of cut up cereal box’s which were then paper mãchéd (?Is that right?) and detailed with mouldable foam and fur. The eyes were cut out for the wearer to see, while the observers are distracted with balls of sculpey baked and painted with black and clear nail polish (hot glued just above the cutouts), made to look like eyes.

Tumblr eh?

I like writing, but am way too ADHD driven to ever finish anything. I love making cosplays. I love making mess! Sewing is fun. Crafting is fun and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried most kinds that don’t require an arm and a leg to have a go. I like conventions. I love nerds. I also love physics (physics is a bitch and doesn’t love me back). I love learning and am very good at forgetting.

Dear diary, this week I made a Death costume, with a dodgy mask made of cereal box cardboard, hot glue and kitchen paper, and sewed a cheap velvet robe and hood. Took 6 hrs, I’m happy with the result.

I also wrote 2000 words of fiction because my daughter is a monster when it comes to producing a shit-ton of writing, and I’m lucky enough to have her pushing me to get some done.

I’m supposed to be doing a 2000 word assignment but my brain keeps saying fuck it. I have four days left - I’m pretty sure I’ll start tomorrow. Maybe.

I also lost in wrestling with my son and now I have fingerprints on my forearm which will be awkward to explain at work. I used to be able to pin him down easily, dammit. Next time, my pretty….

I bought a betta fish last week, who is gorgeous, but tonight he doesn’t look well, even though the water is testing fine, so I’m worried.

A buddy and her dog drove a long way to visit me yesterday (the dog didn’t drive, lazy fucker) and my face was sore from laughing by the time she left, so that was nice. I still have her water bottle (it’s mine now).

Whelp, that’s my life. This week at least. I hope this week brings y’all variety at least. Don’t wait for future shit, enjoy your now.
