Just went to see Life Itself, the Roger Ebert documentary. It was really moving, much more so than I had thought it would be. I used to read Ebert’s blog sometimes but never saw his tv show and never felt a particularly strong connection to him.
The film wasn’t a vanity project. it gave you a glimpse into his life without overly focusing on plaudits, accolades or successes. Really what it spoke about was a person who lived their life with determination, curiosity and passion until the end, and this is something completely different from ambition. In fact I got the sense that ambition did not play a huge role in his life, but he lived to write and felt a need to share his writing which led to his successes.
He faced death head on referring to it as an exciting third act in the movie of his life. And the most affecting aspect of the movie was the way it portrayed a sick person facing death while family and friends around him also tried to come to terms with it. Afterwards I stood outside the cinema with a stranger talking about the movie and crying about it with her. It was just that kind of film.
Regular Sized Rudy is great.
The idiot who crawled under America Fererra’s dress was a complete creep who should never get access to any red carpet events. It seemed his intention was to be amusing but it was a violation and assault. However every time I see the images I keep zoning in on the cute little kid who is visibly shocked in the background in the most adorable fashion while the adult behind him either hasn't noticed what's happening because he is too busy looking through his phone, or has noticed and is cynically capturing what's going on.
