I'd normally just delete this because you're being a dick, but I'll respond to this one specifically to address the allegations.

I deleted my original post because it was brought to my attention that I was inadvertently sharing bad AI content. Which I would prefer not to perpetuate. Not because I was being corrected.

Furthermore I never claimed to be an expert on anything I ever talk about ever. I'm just a gay weeabu running my mouth.

If someone who does actual japanese -> english translation projects ever says something that contradicts me, you should definitely listen to them instead because they're way smarter than me.

I personally disagree on the whole Eggman Should Be Pure Evil thing. To me, an Eggman that has restraints and humanity is far more interesting. Eggman Nega fits the Pure Evil role much more in my opinion

I don't know what to tell you. If you want a Robotnik who was capable of love and compassion towards his children while still causing immense harm to the world and people around him, Gerald is right there 🤷‍♀️

Eggman has been 100% evil, nefarious, nasty and heartless since his inception. He had moments of vulnerability like him being horrified that his idol Gerald was willing to destroy the world, sure, but he never needed to be "humanized". He's plenty human - as in, the worst of humanity, the embodiment of greed and narcissism and wanton destruction. His good qualities are more so tied to his sheer determination and intellect, and he's further humanized by things like his passion for casinos and amusement parks, hinting at his more childish side. He's fleshed out, he's compelling, and he's rotten to the core. That's the point. It doesn't make him any weaker.

There are some morally grey villains out there. Villains who love, who nurture, who grieve, with very clear moral boundaries. Eggman is not one of them. And he's fine like this. He's memorable, he's entertaining, he's even admirable in a way, much like Sonic is admirable for his constant drive. I don't think he needs to be fixed, or turned into a daddy villain, or be given traits he wasn't conceptualized with. He perfectly mirrors Sonic, who, while being overall a fleshed out character with his flaws and quirks, is unambiguously a heroic, pure figure who is meant to be inspirational more than relatable. And similarly, Eggman is meant to be more of a warning of the dangers of humanity than some sort of tragic anti-villain. Again, Gerald is right there. Or Merlina. Those niches are perfectly occupied.

Nobody is saying Eggman "should" be pure evil. We're saying he IS pure evil. Observation of objective fact. Personal preference is not part of the discussion.

Here's an idea. Maybe in the Sonic universe if you do something alot you get better at it? Just like every other fictional setting ever and the real world? It'd be one thing if Amy went from her damsel in distress status in CD to one shotting Metal Sonic's dragon form in heroes. But I feel like her power progression has been treated the same as everyone else's. It's never been anything that doesn't fit the character or breaks the story.

This just seems like a meaningless thing to hung up on. Sonic went from running in loop de loops to casually making sonic booms whenever he wants along with shredding through entire armies. Tails went from flying a plane to making highly customized fighter jets, battle mechs, rockets and even bootleg emeralds that rival the real ones. Like who fucking cares? If the abilities match the character and are added gradually, I really can't see the issue with them being notably more capable than their last appearance.

The baseline for what the average person is capable of in Sonic the hedgehogs world is also just a lot higher than our frame of reference of reality. Amy made it onto Little Planet in her debut game, despite it being suspended over the lake and very quickly encased in a cave by Eggman. She just managed to get on the planet, somehow. That isn't nothing.

And all things considered, Amy's progression has been very gradual and consistent. She started out as a non combatant, then chronologically in Superstars she was able to keep up as part of the team with the other three, then in Adventure she struck out as an independent self sufficient girl on her own adventure which ends with her defeating a boss level Mecha all by herself. Sonic Advance shows she is able to fight against Eggman Mecha's by herself but still isn't capable of spindashing, then in Advance 2 she displays the ability to spindash like everyone else and that maintains into Heroes. In the level she appears as a support character in Shadow the Hedgehog, if you play as her with Player 2 she has the same homing attack and spindash abilities of any other character. Then by the time of her next fully playable appearance in Sonic Dream Team she is treated as entirely equivalent to Sonic, they have the same gameplay and bosses and just act as pallette swaps of each other.

I think 30 years is an entirely reasonable stretch of time to develop a character from Damsel in Distress to being at the very least on the same level as Sonic was as of the events of Sonic Adventure.

If you're going to try to argue that IDW isn't/shouldn't be canon because you think it's poorly written, then by that logic you should be arguing that half of the Sonic games from the 2010s aren't canon. If you're going to try to argue IDW isn't canon (bad take btw) then you should at least use something more objective like lore inconsistencies and not "Shadow said something cringe once".

Nobody said the comic isn't canon because it's "poorly written." It isn't canon because it isn't written correctly as per the source material of the video games. The characters are not written the same way as they are written in the video games. The writing being bad (which it is) has nothing to do with that. The writing could hypothetically be good. It isn't, but it could be. And it would still be noncanon because it is depicting Steven Maurice The Hedgehog instead of SONIC the Hedgehog. The character in the video games is not the same character as the one being portrayed in the comic. That, along with many other reasons, is why it is not canon.

Also the 2010 games are well written so I don't even know what you're talking about. Just because you think they're juvenile doesn't make them poorly written. It's not what a story is about, it's how it's about it. The fact they contain material that you would rather they didn't does not make them poorly written, you are not judging them on their own merits you are judging them based on what they aren't.
