I think if you have an egalitarian viewpoint sex segregation doesn't make sense, but the world isn't egalitarian and it effects peoples view points. For most of history women were subhuman because if they didn't like it, men would just beat them. I don't think people like being reminded of that, from various perspectives. Most of the time you see a physical competitions with mixed sexes, and the women don't do well, you'll see at least a few men very happy about this and saying that it's proof of women's inferiority, instead of just saying that those individual competitors sucked. I think because of that, people have a very strong negative reaction to what would effectively be "woman humiliation competition". I don't think many women are interested in competition when the result of failure is people gleefully saying it's proof everyone with your identity deserves pain.
My viewpoint is, sure, having sex segregated bathrooms is sexist, but it's something that exists to protect women. You could say "any rapist is clearly just going to walk in anyway! We should just do away with the whole problem and have mixed bathrooms!" but since we know what happens in places where lack of access to safe bathroom results in, we know that the result of getting rid of women's bathrooms would only result in a increase in the suffering of women. So then it comes down to whether you want to get rid of sexism, or if you want to avoid inflicting pain on women and girls. I think most of this is an issue depending on whether or not you consider a woman experiencing suffering is that big a deal.
The other reason is also that women just don't want to compete with men, because they don't enjoy it. This has consistently been the response a lot of women say when it comes to things like e-sports. I think a lot of this has to do with communication styles between sexes chaffing to the full extent in these kinds of contexts.
Number of female athletes consulted: zero
You should probably bother to actually interact with a demographic literally at all before deigning to speak on behalf of them.
I don't know a single female athlete who doesn't fully believe from the bottom of their heart that they couldn't beat the ever loving shit out of a man in their field of expertise. Every single woman interested in sports that I have ever known in my entire life has had full confidence that they could compete against men within their weight class and surmount them.
And aside from the specificity of sports: women do not need you to shape the world in the interest of ensuring they avoid pain. This is benevolent sexism. You are treating women as inferior, weak, perhaps even servile, and in need of being treated with kid gloves for the sake of their own safety.
You really need to quit while you're ahead.
Spooky pumpkin hours
Well, at that point you get into the things people don't want to talk about, which is that men are stronger then women. They have bigger lungs, bigger hearts, bigger skulls, and testosterone increases muscle growth. We could have women compete with men, but a competition where the result is already known isn't very entertaining.
Women's leagues exist for the same reason the disabled leagues exist, basically.
Also, to Crafty, yes, people did consider women to be less smart then men when it came to chess, that was the accepted explanation until recently and why women into chess would only compete against each other.
Which goes back to my original point. There really is no answer to this question that doesn't just sound like sexism.
I doubt the people saying this "well men are bigger and stronger than women so they couldn't possibly compete on the same level" argument are female athletes.
Even if that were true for the sake of argument, that in any possible physical sports competition women would all always lose to men in every possible scenario and context even when we're talking about team based sports somehow the women would just always perform worse: so what? If the bitches would lose then let them lose.
Is it not infantalizing to say we need to have a special little bitch baby league only for the weak stupid ladies to give them a chance to play with each other because everyone "knows" they can't compete in the real league? Being a woman is not a disability. (I don't really think disabled people should be barred from entering non-disabled sports leagues either btw).
I'm 5'3''. Conventional logic is that if I were to play Basketball against someone who is 6'7'' I am probably definitely going to lose every single time. To say that I am not even ALLOWED to be in the same league as that tall person because of the supposedly imbalance of our physical stature and how that relates to the competition is obscene.
How is it NOT obscene to apply the same logic to people based on their sex? Most sports based competitive leagues do not utilize weight classes. For those sports, I cannot understand why they are segregated based on sex/gender. For the sports that do use weight classes, just standardize the weights between the sexes.
To say men and women cannot compete in the same field of sports because men are just Better than women and would always win is A: unsubstantiated, and B: irrelevant.
I just don't understand why this is a trans rights debate. The existence of gender segregation in sports is baffling regardless of trans people's participation. Which is why it doesn't make sense that the discussion starts and ends with "trans women should be allowed into the women's sports" instead of extending further to "get rid of women's sports and just have everyone compete together." Is the argument not entirely the same either way?

I got curious about the gender segregation in sports so I did some surface level reading about why there's women only competition in chess exist and I came across an interesting theory: it's just statistics
Basically, if a group of people is disallowed from competing in the first place, which women were when it came to chess, years later you're going to see less women have an interest in that field because they've had less time to access that field then the group that did have access
So, you have a woman from a privileged background who has genes to make her good at athleticism, but women aren't allowed to engage in most sports, and you have this going on for a few thousand years, and the end result is going to be less female athletes
Actually, it all reminds me of that pretty famous photo from the 70s of the first women to compete in a marathon, where multiple men attempted to pull her off the track and were only stopped by her then boyfriend
Well yeah historically it makes sense. Kind of. I mean, we don't have a whites only and blacks only version of sports, despite the fact that black people were barred from competing for much of our first world history. Weird that we have that explanation for gender but not race even though both experienced historical barment from entry due to bigotry.
My question is why do we still have it? Why is the debate "should trans women be allowed in female sports leagues" and not "why the fuck do we even still have female sports leagues?"
"OMG are you excited for the second shitty Tomb Raider remake in a rebooted continuity by the same developers who made the last two shitty reboot continuities of the franchise!?"
You know what would make me excited? A new Tomb Raider game in the OG Core Dynamics continuity with the OG Lara Croft, post Angel of Darkness. A new game with a 58 year old Lara Croft still running around going on adventures. That's what would make me excited.

Should he tell her... How can you disappoint that face???
People that say "they can be both" and don't understand either depiction of the character and really just want one to skinsuit the other.
Funny also how they always tend to say that in response to one group of people talking about the characters depiction and not the other.
🤔
ABT turned a Soleanna guard into basically an acorn kingdom guard with Nigel's mustache. These people need to let Archie go already. It's been dead for almost a decade and there's no bringing it back.

Don't remember ever saying that but good job unironically being the exact type of secular religious fundamentalist without any capacity for self awareness I'm always talking about. It's very vindicating.
