Blog Post #9: College Survival Tips
1. Step of your comfort zone. Do things that you have never done before; you might find an activity that you never thought that you would enjoy. YOU ARE GOING TO EMBARRAS YOURSELF AND THAT’S OKAY. It’s important to try new things, even if that means embarrassing yourself in front of people. It’s all about finding yourself and trying new activities that you might end up absolutely loving. As corny as that might sound, college is about pursuing activities that you enjoy doing and you never know what you like until you TRY!
2. GET INVOLVED! Join clubs and organizations on campus. Attend sporting events, become a volunteer, participate in student government, go to any performances/lectures happening on campus, get free food during events on campus, and MUCH MORE. There are ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES to get involved during your college years. Find your interests and hobbies by joining various organizations. Plus, you are going to meet new people who share the same interests as you and make new friends.
3. Take advantage of any resources on campus. Whether that means academically in tutoring sessions, counselling services, health centers, the library, campus escorts, and anything else that you can possibly think of. Plus, these resources are FREE for students and by free, I mean included in your college tuition. ;)
4. DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN! College isn’t about sitting in your room all day studying for hours and hours every single day. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t study, BECAUSE YOU DO NEED TO STUDY DON’T GET ME WRONG, but it’s equally important to have a social life and expand your horizons. These are the years that you’re going to remember as you get older and when you look back, you want to remember all the fun experiences you encountered with all the embarrassing moments that you had. You don’t want to look back with the whats ifs and regrets; you want to look back at all the crazy moments that you had.
